On a side note, Demetrius Jones found out Saturday morning that his grandmother had passed away.

He scrambled to his left, a defender had him in the grasp, but he spun off of him and launched the ball into the end zone for Antonio Nelson for the win.

"When it came down to that last play, I just knew my grandmother was with me. I got beat up all day, but I kept getting back up. This was my last game at Gately Stadium."

All Day Tough.

Chicago (Ill.) Morgan Park four star ranked dual-threat quarterback prospect Demetrius Jones (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) played on Saturday night in the Mustangs come from behind 18-14 win over Simeon to take the Chicago Public League title and a place at this year's Prep Bowl. Jones discovered on Saturday morning that his grandmother had passed away. Jones talks about his inspired performance on Saturday night and much more in this latest recruiting update.

"I was told that my grandmother had passed away on Saturday morning," Jones said. "Saturday night was a really emotional game for me. I was thinking about my grandma during the game and I dedicated my game and the rest of my season to her memory. I still don't think it has set in to be honest, but I know that she was definitely with me on Saturday night."

Jones had a busy night on the field, but dug down deep to lead the Mustangs to victory on the last play of the game.

"I played a lot of defense on Saturday. I threw a touchdown pass, and I returned a punt and a kickoff. I had a sack on defense and I also had an inteception and I made a few big tackles in the game. I also got pretty dinged up and I wanted to come off the bench for the last play. I didn't want to end my season sitting on the bench hurt, because it would have hirt a lot more if I didn't try my best to win the game. I would be hurting more if we didn't score a touchdown on the last play to win that game. The defender has me and was about to wrap me up, but somehow I was able to spin out of it and threw the ball into the end zone and Antonio (Nelson) made the catch. I always seem to have about 2 or 3 of those type of plays per season, and that was a good time to use one of those unexplainable plays. I'm hoping I'll have a few more this week in the Prep Bowl."

Jones is excited to get a chance to play in the annual Prep Bowl on Friday against Chicago Brother Rice.

"It's cool to get a chance to rebuild our reputation this year and a win over Brother Rice would go along way towards that. We are one of 18 teams still getting to practice this week, and I'm proud to be one of those teams."

Jones is still considering taking an official visit to Tennessee in early December.

"I'm still not sure about taking that visit to Tennessee because I don't want people to question my intergrity. I'll look at that visit after my season is over with on Friday. I really want to go on that visit to support my teammate Ray-Ray (Ramone Johnson) but I also don't want anyone to question my loyalty to Notre Dame."

glad to hear him say that. it's about as much commitment to his verbal as you can ask for at this point. it also reinforces notion that a lot of guys go on official visits long after they've made up their mind, just to be able to see some sights and enjoy the recruiting process.

Jones is a tremendous young man both on and off of the field. He has a lot of character intangibles that will make him a great leader at Notre Dame.

I hope he and Sergio Brown reach out to Chicago kids and get to host them on official visits in the future.
