John (San Antonio): What's your take on ND's Brady Quinn? Obviously he has shown alot of improvement this season. Where do you have him ranked among QBs this year and do you think he can take home the Heismann next year?
Beano Cook: (3:22 PM ET ) Will be one of the leading candidates for the Heisman Trophy next year...he will get some votes this season. Quinn certainly has benefitted from Charlie Weis being in South Bend, but this kid is a hard worker, especially in the weight room. He deserves a lot of the credit for his success. He will be a top five pick in the 2007 draft. If he came out in 2006 draft, he would be top five too, in my opinion.
Al (Miami, FL): Beano, you, especially, gotta love the prospect of a Miami-Penn State Orange Bowl game.
Beano Cook: (3:17 PM ET ) That is possible. I still think Penn State-Notre Dame in the Fiesta. Penn State-Miami would be very intriguing. So would Notre Dame-Miami if they met somewhere. As everyone knows, Notre Dame doesn't want to play Miami...
Beano Cook: (3:18 PM ET ) The scene between Miami and Notre Dame was ugly at both places the last two times they met. It has been a while since they met, so perhaps a bowl game would be fun.
John, Lubbock, TX: Why is Texas Tech ranked behind some two-loss teams when their only loss was to who I feel is the best team in the country?
Beano Cook: (3:13 PM ET ) Look at the non-league schedule. Do you really think they would beat Notre Dame on a neutral field? I don't think so. Texas Tech is explosive, but we will see what happens come bowl time.
Chris (Brooksville, KY): If Ohio State wins out, will they get a BCS bowl? How about a Buckeye vs. Irish Fiesta bowl?
Beano Cook: (3:09 PM ET ) If everything goes according to form and USC-Texas meet in the Rose Bowl, I feel Penn State would play Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Miami would be in the Orange Bowl and West Virginia in the Suger Bowl. The other wild card team is hard to predict but it could be from the SEC. Ohio State is not out of it yet by any stretch, but the Buckeyes must beat Northwestern and Michigan and get some help. Penn State has to lose to Michigan Satte. If Penn State wins that game, Ohio State, Wisconsin or Michigan will be in the Citrus Bowl.
Larry (Wash., D.C.): Hey Beano! What's the biggest story in college football this year thus far?
Beano Cook: (3:29 PM ET ) Notre Dame, Penn State, Alabama and USC.
Jacob (Greenwich, CT)
I personally am tired of ND getting preferential treatment not only by their exclusive clauses in the BCS but also by the media and the pollsters that continue to overrate them.
BEANO COOK
That's your opinion.
BEANO COOK
Believe me, I am not a particular fan of Notre Dame, but give credit where credit is due. The Irish will always play a quality non-league schedule. Next season Michigan and Penn State visit South Bend early.
HCM (Bend, OR)
Does ND remind you of last year's CAL team whose high ranking was based soley on a close loss to USC rather than any impressive wins?
BEANO COOK
I don't buy that argument. Notre Dame beat Michigan, Tennessee...look at hte preseason rankings, those teams were expected to do well and the Michigan game was early in the season, so why discount that.
Tim (Atlanta)
Seriously Beano, do you think people/pollsters/media do not give ND extra credit for their name? Their schedule this year did not turn out to be all that crazy tough - they play some tough teams but they also played pitt (stinks) navy, byu, stanford, washington, purdue, tenn (3-5 is 3-5)... aren't we giving them a little too much love??
BEANO COOK
Number one, at one time that might have been true, but ever since Notre Dame double-crossed the CFA and snuck off to sign that deal with NBC, Notre Dame is no longer the darling with the media. At one time Notre Dame was different, but that changed when Father Hesburgh and the late Father Joyce retired. Notre Dame is no different, no matter what anyone says.
I love all the hype!!!!!!
