Well I, for one, am excited. There are so many great novels revolving around the Star Wars universe that could make for compelling movies.

The problem is that the prequels came along towards the tail end of the late 90's CGI overkill, plot-thin blockbuster craze (MIB, ID4, etc.). The blockbuster sci-Fi/ fanboy genre was re-invented in the last decade with the Dark Knight Trilogy, and the popcorny superhero flicks were further refined in the Marvel Universe.

Good screenwriting and some good casting could certainly recharge this franchise.

Its funny, I was just reading about the whole Disney/Pixar/Lucasfilms history. From that standpoint, it doesn't seem all that shocking or earth-shattering.

There are only three good George Lucas movies (episodes IV-VI), and they've already been made. I don't see what the big deal is.

Is this this same fellow who admitted to having a nonexistent imagination?

Disney bought the Star Wars universe. The possibilities are literally endless. Every nerd in the world will watch almost anything with tie-fighters and light-sabers.

Disney will make more money from this than they know what to do with.

Disney COULD make a good film, they have made some good movies but also some bad ones. Disney has made all the recent marvel movies.

^This. The Star Wars Universe has untapped potential and Lucas had neither the lifetime or resources to continue. I think this is brilliant. I really like the recent animated Clone Wars series ( as well as my son) and I think Disney can produce, the darker stuff (Marvel) the kid's stuff (Pixar) and the family stuff as well. I personally have been waiting a long time for VII, VIII, and IX. There is also an approximately 20000 year Old Republic timeline with virtually untapped story lines. Plus the former Lucas president is now the president in charge of this stuff at Disney and I think she will do a great job maintaining the things we love about the story. I remember seeing Empire and Return of the Jedi in the the theaters. It wa amazing for the time. I am pretty much on cloud 9 today.

Exactly. $4 billion is nothing compared to what they will make with this move.

Ummmmm....they're Tusken Raiders, duh. Or to you simpletons, you may have heard them referred to as Sand People......I mean, I have no idea who they are either. Weirdos.

Have you seen this:

Star Wars Uncut: A New Hope

I haven't watched it from start to finish yet, but some of the scenes are awesome. The guy broke down the movie in to 15 second segments and had fans remake the scene any way they wanted. Then reassembled the whole film. It is awesome! They are working on Empire Strikes Back right now. My brother in law is doing a scene to submit.
