I've been a big Niners fan ever since I first started watching Montana throw to Rice and Taylor, Rathman clear lanes for Craig and Ronnie Lott whack people over the middle. But, since that time there was some serious lean years. I never walked away from the Niners, but I definitely felt they walked away from their fan base for awhile (like when they forced Carmen Policy out, Eddie D went to jail...I think...and he had to put his sister Denise in charge). She deferred control of the team to her husband Dr. John York who proceeded to change the uniforms and start running the team on 5¢ to balance the budget.

I truly thought for years that Dr. York was a crackhead for doing that and hiring some of the coaches he hired, oversaw picks they made in the draft (Alex Smith? #1 overall out of a Mountain West spread offense team? Really?!) But, I have to say, they have made some savvy moves (returning to a very close version of the originals unis) and drafting a badass team sitting atop the NFL. It's been a long road through some 6-10 type years but it's been worth the ride.

Hiring Jim Harbaugh was the best move they have made since they took over.

I have been a Niners fan for just as long, and I have never been this excited for a SF year as this year. It seems like they have all the pieces in place to make a legitimate run at a title. I still think they need some more offensive playmakers at WR though. They have some good receivers but outside of Vernon Davis, they don't have anyone I consider an elite pass-catcher, yet. That should be one of their main concerns over the next couple of years, to find some guys that they can throw to every year. Crabtree seems like he might be coming into his own, but he is not a #1 receiver.

Otherwise, I am super excited about the Niners, again!!

Yeah, I agree. I was a little dubious of the A.J. Jenkins pick as I follow college football very intensely and I had never heard of him before (playing for Illinois will do that to you though, outside of Arruleous Benn). Supposedly, he's good...we'll see once he gets healthy. I'm glad Crabtree is coming around...he caught everything not nailed down at Texas Tech and I was really starting to be concerned he was going to be another Big XII washout like Rashaun Woods. One thing I do have to say about Jenkins though...I was a bit disappointed to see when they drafted him Ryan Broyles was still on the board. Sure, Broyles tore up his knee...but he was a stud and became the NCAA career receiving leader! Gotta give him a shot just on that alone!

I totally agree on Harbaugh though. I really like how he simplified things for Smith...he got rid of all the crazy sight adjustments and check downs the previous offensive coordinators had installed and just let him play QB. He saved Smith's career...hell, I'm even comfortable with Smith under center and I never thought I'd say that!

I also liked the signing of Moss because I knew the personalities in the locker room would be too powerful to let him corrupt anything and if they get even a 50% Moss for some plays it's worth a one year deal. It seems right now they've been using him as a deep threat decoy and in the red zone, which seems like a perfect fit at this point in his career.

I totally agree. I just hope that Smith finds Moss a bit more, because he can throw a pretty good deep ball and if Moss is motivated by possibly another SB title attempt, he could really help out for the year. But getting guys to play across from each other like Rice and Taylor did for years would be extremely beneficial to Smith, Gore and Davis.

Absolutely. I think from what I have seen so far that Moss still has a little left in the tank. I mean, him at 75% is still better than a lot of wideouts in the NFL at 100%. That's just a reality whether people like his personality or not. So, if they could get him in some seam routes going downfield off play action...that could be very dangerous. People definitely respect the Niners run game, that would make them have to deal with the vertical threat as well.

Cannot explain the craptastic play from the Niners against the Vikes. WTF!? Well, at least several other teams were upset as well. The loss to the Vikings is unimportant as far as the division goes, but they need to keep pace for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Good thing is, in that department they're already +1 on the Lions and Packers. Now, if they can get the Falcons and Giants to nosedive here and there, that will help.

You could see this trap game coming a mile away. 49ers pretty much hold their own destiny for home field. Beat Arizona twice and beat the Giants, 9ers are in good shape. BTW I'm very impressed with Christian Ponder.

Smith tried to kill my fantasy team today. I put him in as my starter due to RG3s concussion, thinking he would be limited, and whaddya know....he goes off!! I love the solid 2 points he gave me, when my injured QB could've given me 40.lol.
Oh well, I'm winning this week anyway...

Weirdly, I have to agree. Of course having the Cardinals win Game 5 of the NLDS and Game 1 of the NLCS this weeknd, with the Irish W in between, made for a great weekend for me.

GO IRISH!! GO NINERS!!! GO CARDINALS!!!!!
