TW-Speaking about ND

"I've been very lucky in that from the time I started in sports as a little kid I won, basically, at every place and in everything I've done," said Willingham said. "That was no different at Notre Dame. I mean, there were two (regular-season) years of winning records, two bowl games in three years. That's not bad."
Willingham knows the Pac-10. The Pac-10 knows him. He's known as the guy who lifted Stanford to four bowl games. They know he was twice named Pac-10 coach of the year.

He hinted Notre Dame had unrealistic expectations.

"The question I ask is how many coaches in this room - and you'd say there are some good coaches in this room - have won a national championship?" he said. "So all of a sudden are the other guys are bad coaches? I don't think so."

Well, it should be obvious now that he was never the right guy for the job. The Ty apologists have nothing to stand on after that comment. His standards of success are not what anybody could ever call top-tier standards, and ND is a top-tier institution. He does not strive to be the best at what he does, he does not strive to stand above the crowd. There are lots of good coaches in any room, and he would like to be one of them. But the great coaches, the ones who have won national championships, are not his concern. And he said so himself.

Not to mention...

Not to mention...

That making a bowl game isn't even hard anymore. You only have to win 6 games and you are invited. There are 30 bowl games which means 60 teams. I know we don't have the greatest talent in the world be we have enough talent to win 6 games and be one of the 60 teams in a bowl game every year. Tyrone Willingham has just steped a few notches down in my eyes after reading that article. I'll still pull for him to succeed but those are the coments of a loser.

I'm sick of the TW lovers out there that say he was so mistreated. The University finally woke up! Look at TW's record as a coach...he was an average coach who had a good 1st year at ND. They chose him because they were running out of time looking for a coach after the O'leary incident!

Please no more talk of this guy until we go to Washington and whip him there!

I agree with you IrishHawk...I saw a preseason bowl projection over at foxsports and ND is not projected to be in any bowl this year. It's pretty funny.

This type of comment comes as no surprise to me. Ty is so used to everyone worshipping the ground he walks on, and everyone has been telling him how his firing is unjustified, and how great of a guy he is, but these pansies forget one thing.....HE ISNT TOUGH!!! He has an excuse for everything and just cant accept the fact that he is too inconsistent and has too many flaws. Weis will show him how to coach Notre Dame football.

I cant wait either. I honestly think that is the game I am really waiting to watch this season. Not just because its Ty, but because I want Ty AND ESPN to see how well this team can play when they are properly coached. All this crap about ND having no talent is B.S.
