ESPN Pulls out of Coaches Poll

Yeah, Disney only has the rights to one bowl game now, so in order to look like a legit news source they pulled out the rapidly declining BCS. How noble of them.

Bill Curry was discussing this on ESPN radio. Basically, the coaches don't like voting anyway and find it a nuisance. I think this is a good move. Bottom line, they just aren't responsible with it and football is better off without coaches voting.

Most coaches have people that do the research for them. These coaches just don't have time to evaluate all these teams.

Exactly my point. How can guys on the East Coast judge USC or Cal? They have rare opportunities to see them play.

Have I mentioned my absolute contempt for the BCS? It is a complete farce. Was Auburn better than USC? We’ll never know. But arguing about the BCS is a moot point. It will change only when it stops being profitable. The only way for it to stop being profitable is for us (college football fans) to stop watching bowl games. And that won’t happen. And the powers that be know it won’t, so we keep getting the same crap.

This really hacks me off. ESPN getting self-righteous about the voting. PLEASE! Now that the Big Mouse’s financial interest in the BCS are seriously diminished, ESPN got around to caring about the equity of the system. Give me a break.

And being associated with the Coaches’ Poll somehow damages their journalistic integrity. Give me another break. Their journalistic integrity died with Budweiser Hot Seat and every other sponsored segment of SportsCenter. SportsCenter is more about personalities and sponsorship than it is about sports. And the Grand Poohbah of the network, Chris Berman, hasn’t uttered a relevant syllable this century.

There was a time when I never missed the AM edition of SportsCenter. Now I couldn’t care less. I’ll get my scores online.

Guff, I am a bitter ESPN man. I used to swear by it, but it has become MTV meets CNN meets Comedy Central and Nickelodeon. The idiots on the show have become the news. Give me the highlights, tell me the score and shut up. The booyahs and all the other stupid catch phrases have become old.

I still like Baseball Tonight and College Football Gameday, but that's basically it. NFL Primetime is okay, too. But those are experts who know what they're talking about. Sportscenter is garbage. I'd rather watch live coverage of a garbage dump on the south side of Chicago.
