he doesn't have ND on his list, hopefully coach Weis will be able to put on that NJ swagger and smooth talk him a bit

I think he wants to hoop too, but he will have to walk on at a D-I school. Maybe Brey would bring him on board?

He could be a bit of a Stovall-Knight kind of guy depending on how much he grows. I like him. There will be competition for his services, esp. if he has a good senior year.

Jiggafini, are you a highschool coach in the Chicago area? Do you personally aid anybody in the recruiting process in any real way? Just curious as to what all you know and how you know it.

Not a coach, but a scout in the recruiting process, yes. I went to a state school in Illinois, undergrad and master's. During my master's for sports management, I got involved with football recruiting. I check out players who they have already looked at, but also look for other possibilities. Mostly juniors north of I-90 in Chicago. I don't have contact with the players, but I talk to parents and faculty to "mole" information that we might not otherwise have. You'd be surprised at some of the things people say about kids.

Checked up on some of the higly touted recruits ND is recruiting Here's what I was able to gather on some guys....

Read this about Paddy Mullen...

Paddy fell in love with ND on his visit last year. He is just waiting on the offer, although he also has offers from Missouri, Nebraska, Michigan State, Kansas, and Oklahoma State.

I love how Weis is recruiting, but he's been a bit slow with some offers. Paddy is perfect for ND, he loves the school, he's a big time recruit. I have heard he needs to get his grades up a bit. Not sure if that is accurate though....

QB Demetruis Jones has Illinois as his favorite right now, but it's still very early.

DE Jamie Crumbie, favors Clemson(grew up a clemson fan), but after his junior day visit at ND, he said ND has pulled even with Clemson. He plans on making a decision early.

WR John Maddox -He says he does not have a favorite, but was a Notre Dame fan growing up. He liked the gold helmets, and the irish mascot. 3 things Maddux is looking for in a school: playing time, how they graduate players, and the oppurtunity to be a BCS contender.

WR/DB Phillip Strozier is rumored to be Notre Dames to lose. Not sure how accurate this is though. Was teammates with DJ Hord in high school.

Mike Hartline likes O$U, Michigan, and ND in that order. ND has really moved up his list, but I'd say he's ohio states to lose.

Zach Frazer- Coach Weis informed him he was the first official offer they extended this season. He realy enjoyed his visit and it vaulted ND at or near the top of his list. (from his ND junior day visit)

WR Chris James is leaning early to the Illini. They have offered him a scholarship. He also has visited N.Dame for their junior day. He was a fan of Miami growing up. He is teammates with '06 recruiting prospect Demetrious Jones

OL Lee Tilley-Lee enjoyed his trip to Notre Dame but says they are no higher than fifth on his list only because they have not offered. He has been offered by Georgia, Nebraska, Kansas and North Carolina State.

It looks like it will come down to O$U and ND for Tilley

More info on all those who have been offered by ND
http://www.notredamefans.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=4283

QB Demetrius Jones 6'3 185 from Morgan Park, Illinois
Demetruis is from the Chicago area in which ND has been recruiting hard once again under Charlie Weis. Jones is also a top 100 rivals kid at the moment. Jones attended the Jr. day on Feburary the 27th and seem to have a good time. As of today Jones has 3 offers, ND and the other 2 being Michigan and Illinois. Jones is a heck of an athlete running the 40 in 4.5! Last year was All State performer and threw for 2100 yards with 17td's as well as running for 1000 yards and 12td's. He is a dual threat and leads a very talented team that also boast 2 other ND prospects (WR CHRIS JAMES and OL RAMONE JOHNSON). So far it's early in the process but Jones has showed and infatuation with ND and throught has had ND always among his favorites. Other teams that will battle ND for Jones are Illinois, and Michigan.

QB Zach Frazer 6'4 215 from Mechanicburg, Pennsylvania
Frazer is from Pa. where this year there are many top QB's. Frazer might be batteling for the top in the state and nation with the same group between Pat Devlin, and Jeremy Ricker. Frazer boasts one other offer from Georgia Tech. Zach attended the jr day on the 27th and also plans to summer camp at ND. Frazer was AAA first team all-state and the AAA state player of the year last year in a strong football state. Frazer last year broke the Pennsylvania state passing record which is impressive when you consider the QB's to come out of there including Montana and Marino. Last Year Frazer passed for 3,684 passing yards and also threw for 27 td's while throwing 9 int's. Although not possesing great speed (5.0 in the 40) Frazer ran for 12td's as well. Frazer likes ND right now and is probably leaning towards ND. Frazer has admitted he was shocked ND has already offered, and also said that wherever he goes he would like to maybe decide before the year starts, which bodes well for ND. Other schools pursuing; Purdue, Miami (fl.), GTech, NCst., Syracuse, PSU, and Iowa all showing intrest.

RB Munir Prince 5'10 175 from St. Louis, Missouri
Munir is one of the most explosive backs in the country. Many feel he is too small to be an everydown type of back but that he is a guy who can go at any moment. Prince verbally comitted to Iowa but has since renegged and said although Iowa is still #1 he is going to look around. Prince attended the jr. day on the 27th and along with his teamate Paddy Mullen really liked ND. Besides Iowa and ND Prince also has offers from Kstate, Mizzu, Michigan St., Nebraska, and N'western. Last year Prince had 986 yards rushing and 11 td's but also earned all state in the largest Missouri division as a DB. As a soph. Prince rushed for over 1300 yards as well. Prince shows great speed running the 40 in 4.4 seconds. Prince is a Iowa lean but is looking and ND will have a chance, Mullen (teamate)if offered will commit to Irish which will only bode well. Prince plans to attend ND again in the spring.

OT Jared Odrick 6'6 295 from Lebanon, Pennsylvania
Jared is a big young man who shows good speed for his size running the 40 in 4.9. He also plays DE and says he will play either in college but loves D. Odrick also has offers from Oklahoma, Iowa, Maryland, Uconn, Pann St. and Virgina. Last year he was 1st team all confernence and had 72 tackles and 5 sacks on defense. Odrick has stated he is wide open and has no favorites although he is surprised at some of the teams who have already offered. Michigan has not offered but he also has them in with the list above. Jared has not visited ND and has not yet said if he will. He is going to the blue chip combine in which the ND coaches are to attend in May. Odrick said he will take all 5 offical visits so don't expect a decision until atleast December up to signing day next Feb.

OL Chris Stewart 6'5 340 from Klein, Texas
Chris is obviously a massive young man, but with a 26 inch vertical leap and a 5.4 he shows decent athleticism. Chris besides the ND offer also has offers on the table from Texas, TT, A&m, and Vandy. Stewart has a brother who is 6'10 390 so he may still be growing as well. Stewart has great grades boasting a 4.9 (not sure if that's a 4.0 scale or that would be amazing.) and says education is going to be a key in where he would like to attend college. Stewart has not been ND yet but said he would like to visit either offically or for summer camp. As of now it seems Texas, A&M and LSU seem to be the cheif competitors for Stewart. I don't see him committing soon as he said he would like to take all his offical visits first.

OL Walter Watts 6'4 290 from Los Banos, California
I will keep this short because that is basically where ND's chances are. Walter has already been offered by ND but as well he was offered by UCLA. He verballed to UCLA and has continuesly verified it and said he was going to honor it. Walter is very mobile and runs a 5.0 which is outstanding considering his size. He looks all but locked up for UCLA.

DE Eddie Jones 6'3 235 from Kilgore, Texas
Eddie another kid from Texas is one of the top DE prospects in the nation. He uses his 4.7 speed to rush off the edge and that is the strength of his game. Jones is a top 100 rivals kid as of now. Jones also has offers to schools such as Texas, LSU, Nebraska, A&M, TCU, Oklahoma, and TT. That is the order he lists them in as well with ND following TCU. He has said he may verbal early and that Texas is way out in front. Last year Jones was all state on a 4A championship squad. Jones had 131 tackles and 12 sacks. Look for Eddie to probably land at Texas.

DE Jamie Cumbie 6'7 255 from Morris, Illinois
Cumbie obviously shows great size for a young man who runs a 4.75. Jamie also can play TE as well and has not stated a preferenece. Cumbie who was all conf. and all area had 18 catches at TE going for 260 yards along with 3 td's last year. He also posted 70 tackles and 9 sacks on Defense. Cumbie a rivals 100 kid has offers from Clemson, Illinois, Purdue and Nwestern as well as ND. Cumbie who grew up a Clemson fan is orignally from SCarolina but moved to Ill. a few years ago. He said he would prefer to stay closer to his hom in Ill. but SC would be one place he could go. He attended Jr. day at ND and seemed to really enjoy the staff and school. Cumbie is being recruited by other heavy weights and will probably be a real influential recruit that ND stands a very good chance with.

LB Jeremiha Hunter 6'2 220 Manheim, Pennsylvania
As a patterns has shown up Pa. has seemed to be a place ND wants to make it's presence felt. Hunter is a big LB who posts a 40 time of 4.55 which is very fast for a LB of that size. On a team that was 13-2 and state runner up Hunter was AAA all state LB'er. He had 143 tacles to go along with his 5 sacks, and 4 int's. Hunter also doubled as a RB and ran for 1,100 yards and 24 td's. Those are impressive #'s to say the least. Hunter boasts offers from some impressive schools including Michigan, Ohio St.,WVU, Maryland, PSU, and Virgina. Michigan, OSU, and WVU are his favorites right now but there is plenty of time to climb in this one and Hunter said he is still wide open. He has not attended ND but will be at the blue chip combine in which ND coaches are to attend in may.

DB Taylor Mays 6'3 210 from Seattle, Washington
Taylor out of all these guys is probably the most pshyically impressive. A guy as big as himself is impressive in his athletic ability. He runs the forty in 4.4 and a 32 inch vertical to go with his size makes him very attractive. That is probably why the rivals 100 Mays has offers already from Michigan, Nebraska, USC, UCLA, Stanford and Washington to go along with ND's offer. Mays has stated he wants to visit ND and see what they have to offer. USC is hot for Mays which means Carroll will put the pressure on him so it will be intresting to see what Weis can do here. Along with th offers Miami Fl. is a school that Mays seems very attracted to. Mays holds impressive stats especially in the classroom with a 3.53 and a 1200 sat score. Versitile enough Mays can play DB/WR last year he had 5 int's on D to go along with 3 PR td's and 25 catches for 524 yards and 7td's.Mays also won the 100m championship in WA. last year. Mays will be a recruit that should go down to the end as he likes alot of schools. He wants to visit and ND and that is important.

DB/Ath John Maddox 6'4 170 Philladelphia, Pennsylvania
John's heigth is a standout plus and he has good speed to go with it. He is from the same High school that 2005 signee Darrell Hand is from. John is a rivals 100 kid and has offers from Mich. St. PSU and Rutgars to go along with ND. Last year Maddox had 9 int's on Defense and also had 24 catches that went for 504 yards and 8 td's. Although he likes ND alot he says he is open to everyone and so I don't think his recruiting picture will be resolved anytime soon. Maddox has seen ND before with Hand and will likely visit again this spring when he goes on a midwest tour. Maddox and all catholic blue team and all area team will probably go down till the end.

DB Myron Rolle 6'2 205 from Princenton, NJ
Rolle is arguabley the top prospect in the class of 2006, and was offered early by Ty's staff but Weis will defently honor it. Rolle has offers from over 30 schools and it's headlined by his favorites, Miami (fl.), FSU, Flordia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Mich. St, USC, and Virgina with the first 5 being a step up then the last 3. For Weis to land Rolle or even get him to visit it would be huge but highly unlikely as Rolle seems to want to go to the Flordia area. With a 4.0 GPA Rolle can qualify and play probably anywhere next year. Last year Rolle ran for over 1400 yards and 16td's on offense and also had 83 tackles, 6 sacks and 4 int's on D, and was named the state ledger D player of the year last year. Rolle is a longshot but maybe Weis being from NJ can get Rolle's ear a little.

Irish look like there in good shape to get a QB this year. Here's an article on Josh Freeman....

Josh Freeman, a 6-6, 215-pound quarterback from Grandview (Mo.) high school has been a busy man already this year. Freeman has visited a number of schools and has several more on the docket. Will Notre Dame be one of those schools? Where do the Irish stand with Freeman?

Quarterback Josh Freeman has been to a number for junior days already this year. In fact, he was recently at a Missouri junior day with another Irish recruit, Phillip Strozier . When the calendar turns to April, Freeman will find himself visitng South Bend.

"I am going to make it up for their (Notre Dame's) junior day on April 2nd, said Freeman. "I'm going to be going with a friend of mine, Carson Coffman ."

Last time I spoke with Josh he said he had planned on speaking with the coaches.

"When I called they were in a meeting so I didn't get a chance to speak with them," he said. "So I haven't spoken to them directly, but my dad has. He called them later on and spoke with coach Cutcliffe, and just tried to get a feel for what type of quarterback they were looking for and how they worked with players.

"I looking to see how the coaches work with the players." Freeman said when asked what he was interested in seeing on his trip to South Bend. "I want to see how they react in different situations; basically how I like them.

"I want to see how they run a football practice compared to a high school practice," he added.

Freeman also plans to visit a Missouri practice later in April, and also plans to attend the Nebraska spring game.

While Nebraska still leads, Freeman is keeping an open mind.

"If they lead, it's by a little bit," said Freeman of the Huskers. "I'm really open right now."

Freeman said the he recently received a written offer from Iowa State. He can add that to the offers he previously had: Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri. He also mentioned that LSU had really picked up their recruiting efforts as of late.

Comments: The Irish obviously have a great deal of interest in Freeman, and the fact that he is making a trip to South Bend to watch spring practice is huge for Notre Dame. Not only does it show that Josh is genuinely interested, but it will allow Notre Dame to sell their new vision for the program.

TE/DE Paddy Mullen has an offer from ND under the table. As long as he gets his grades up a bit, ND will officially offer him. He's expected to accept the offer once he receives it, which may be late June.

Paddy is a very good recruit. He loves ND and bleeds blue and gold. This is type of kid Weis wants to bring in. He already has offers from Missouri, Nebraska, Michigan State, Kansas, and Oklahoma State

James Aldridge lists Oklahoma St, Notre Dame, and tOSU as his favorites in that order. Oklahoma State is offering an opportunity for immediate playing time while Notre Dame offers a great tradition and solid education. James does like tOSU's program. He plans on graduating early.

We have a good shot with Aldridge, problem is James wants to enroll early, which ND doesn't allow.

Tim Tebow one of the best QB's in the country, likes ND. This could end up being another Urban-Weis battle.

The schools recruiting Tebow read like a Top 25 poll. Miami, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Louisville, Louisiana State, Tennessee, Iowa and Notre Dame are just a few of the schools trying to make his short list.

Florida might have a slight advantage considering Tebow grew up a Gator fan, but that doesn't mean the others don't have a chance.

"I grew up a Gator fan and I have been there to visit a few times," he said. "But I'm definitely interested in Notre Dame. With that (coaching) staff, you have to be interested in them."

"The old (Notre Dame) staff liked me a lot and they told me they were glad that I went for a visit," he said. "They took good care of me."

Tebow's college choice will likely come down to where he feels most comfortable and builds the best rapport with the coaching staff.

"I'm really looking to see where I fit in best with the quarterbacks coach and head coach," he said. "That's important because I'll be spending most of my time with them. Most everything else will fall into place."

Charlie Weis is "with the times" when it comes to recruiting. He is offering juniors in the spring, which is something that Willingham and Davie did not do. The great, top tier programs do this and it is effective. He is also going to recruit one scholarship quarterback a year, a philosophy that I could not agree with more. Depth at QB is key to a National Title run, especially since right now there is no one behind Quinn.

We'll see who signs and who doesn't in 10 months, but I like ND's chances.

found this on the web. anybody got details on this guy?

just wanted to give an update on where he stood.

This is going to be a tough one. The kid grew up a Clemson fan in SC and even though he lives in Morris, IL, they will have the inside track over ND. I would not be the least bit surprised if Zook and Illinois throw their hat in the ring on this guy. Weis did the right thing by offering early with this guy. Probably the best overall prospect coming out of our state, at least on defense anyway.

Ryan Getting Heavy Interest
By Duane Long
Date: Apr 5, 2005

Cleveland St. Ignatius is always loaded with fine players, and the best one this year could be defensive end John Ryan. Duane Long caught up with Ryan, who already has some impressive offers.

John Ryan (6-5, 240) of Cleveland St. Ignatius could be Ohio's top defensive end prospect this year. Yesterday, Ryan received his biggest offer to date as he was offered by Notre Dame.

"Yes, Coach Weis called yesterday at the school," Ryan said. "I was over there for their junior day."

Ryan has been surprised so far with the recruiting process.

"It's all hit so fast," he said. "It's gotten really crazy. I'm going to wait for a little while until my feet hit the ground again and start thinking about making a decision."

Among Ryan's other offers are Boston College, Syracuse, and Michigan State, and Ryan is also interested in Maryland. BC and Maryland are recruiting Ryan as a tight end and defensive end, while Notre Dame and Syracuse like him at defensive end.

Ryan singled out two of those schools as being at the top of his list.

"Really it's Notre Dame and Boston College," he said. "I'm a Catholic kid from the Midwest."

Ryan did not seem to know what he would do regarding camps this summer, but he does think he may have a decision around that time.

"I'm not in a hurry, but I really would like to have this over with by the time the season starts," he said.

Ohio State does not seem to be showing as much interest in Ryan. In a recent update by Mike Frank of IrishEyes.com, Ryan said "Ohio State is a great school, and I’d be interested in hearing from them, but they haven’t had a lot of interest so far."

I'm shocked that OSU would not be chasing this kid down.

OSU is stacked at DE. Lawrence Wilson will probably end up playing tight end.

Ohio State will have a smaller class this year, so I guess their only going after must needs, right now.

i wonder if wilson likes the idea of playing TE. he should have known though that with the depth that OSU has he could be playing somewhere else on the field. too bad we missed getting this guy.

Hey, I just ready that Zach Frazer is on campus today for his 2nd visit. Hope it goes well, I really like this kid and think he's a great prospect at QB. I kinda hope he commits early cause I like him a little more than Jones, which I know many disagree w/ but its just a gut feeling from what I've read about both that I can't explain. Either way I know a solid 4 or 5 star QB should be coming in this year's class.

Anyone else have any feelings about who they'd rather have between Frazer & Jones?

I haven't seen Frazer, but I've seen Jones. Jones probably has more agility, but Frazer is probably the better passer. Personally, either one would be awesome.

Why not both, right?

yeah, that'd be nice, but I just doubt they'd both commit. Both could easily be starters elsewhere, don't see why they'd want to compete w/ each other for playing time. But if Charlie pulls that rabbit out of his hat and they both do come I will stand up and applaud.

Darrin Walls

It's still between ND and Michigan for Walls services.. He expects to make a decision around January.. Walls is looking forward to the ND michigan matchup Sept 10th. He really likes ND because of early playing time, but he seems to be a michigan fan(always seen in michigan gear)

Let Walls go to Michigan if he doesn't want a degree and get misinformed like Ernest Shazor did in the Draft last month. I just don't see the appeal anymore. Maybe I'm biased because of my bitter hatred for that damn school, but their graduation rates speak loud and clear. Their football program is no better than the basketball program in the 1990s.

Early playing time usually wins over all else. Couple that with a degree and the better choice is obvious.
