Second, less people need guns, not more. Even some who are trained should not carry. Having gone through mass amounts of training, impossible to tell how somebody would react. Less people need guns.

However, if I was there, a gun fight would have occurred. It is my duty to protect the innocent. Even if I don't hit him, more people could escape because he is now solely focused on me. Vest or not, he is going down. Gas mask is not stopping anything, aim small, miss small. Adrenaline would have limited the effect of CS to a degree.

If I stood idly by and did nothing while being armed, I whole heartedly failed.

Read a really great article. By a guy who studies mass-murderers. Says they are perverts. Usually they have a great skill set at something. It doesn't work for them. Where it goes wrong is they blame others, instead of adapt their skill set in a more effective manner. Their blame turns from resentment into festering hatred. Thus the perversion. They then become another incredibly focused group, like drug addicts, alcoholics, schizophrenics, and other individuals, focused solely on their goal: to gain notoriety through supremely controlled situations of mass killing. The killings are designed to elicit a specific kind of shock, which propels a name and face, "around the world."

I will be honest; I am suffering from this one. The waste seems almost incomprehensible to me. I try to remind myself, that this young man was probably missing something, (like a soul); probably had serious sociopathic tendencies with some level of social dysfunction laid on top, but it doesn't help, much. I am so glad that this kind of pervert doesn't happen more often! And that group is just adding to the circus that fuels his behavior!

If is fine to say the rev. putz's group will be picketing, it is bad enough to attribute them to a political group, but if I see one more stupid narrow minded, ideological argument in this thread, I will negative rep that poster out of existence. (Hint, Wooly knows I do not mean him.)

When this first happened the story of what happened kept changing so i stopped listening to the news. I have been very busy this weekend and haven't seen any news. Does anyone have a actual "what happened" story yet or are they still trying to figure it out? A semi related note my neighbor has the same name as the shooter.

Let's see James Holmes, 24, entered a movie theater 20 minutes after the new batman movie premire began, and opened fire with a combination of sawed off shotgun, AR-15, and two Glock .40 cal pistols, after lobbing two smoke/teargas grenades into the front rows of the theater. For the next 3-5 minutes he fired into the fleeing audience. He stopped at one point probably to change weapons. Numerous rounds penetrated the walls between Cinema 8, his choice and Cinema 9, the next theater screening the same movie. Many of the 58 wounded were in that adjacent theater.

The guy had his apartment rigged to blow up, and left the front door unlocked. He programmed loud music to play at midnight. A neighbor chose not to enter his apartment.

A few minutes later they apprehended him behind the theater without any resistence. I believe his drum type magazine jammed.

Twelve died. Fifty-eight were injured. He got the publicity he was seeking.

A question out of curiosity. Should we stop publicizing these events? Make a quick mention on the news that it happened with no mention of the shooters name? Is what we and the media are doing giving these guys (mass shooters) the power/attention they want?

I think that is the million dollar question. In this free society, I believe this particular character, has found a way to exploit our freedom. No animal, human or otherwise kills without purpose. There is always a gratification; in this case publicity. Before mass murders did it for riches (eg, Ceasars), or religion (eg, Richard Coeur de Leon), but now a new payoff exists: fame. If you can find a way to cut the news without censorship, great! I will support you 100%; but I think the catch 22 is that our rights insure his gratification. Maybe if everyone grew up and heard it once and dropped it in revulsion . . .
