true also. and why should weather be a factor in a kids choice? if they are good enough to go to the nfl, they will have to adapt to play in all kinds of weather. if a kid lets the weather of an area effect his decision of school, then hes an idiot in my opinion. i would play in the north pole if it meant to get a chance to run out of that tunnel wearing blue and gold.

Yes, the general clarity of posts on this board must be elevated. Half of all posts on this board are generally unintelligible.

Nice Recruiting Class (From A Boilermaker) Reply

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations!

It seems your new coaching staff has done a very good job of assembling a very good recruiting class under some extremely trying conditions. I never evaluate anyone on how many stars someone gets assigned. That can be extremely misleading. When Joe Tiller recruited his first class at Purdue, I believe it was ranked 10th or 11th in the conference. 4 years later, that class went to the Rose Bowl. So what is important is what transpires on the field, and not in some recruting ranking.

I personally think ND Football is one the rebound. Your administration has hired a HC who is a no nonsense guy, who will put an attitude and pride back into the minds of these athletes. I enjoyed the way he laid the law down with the press. That took a lot of guts, but you finally now have a coach who isn't going to take a bunch of crap from a bunch of hacks who never played or coached the game. He has assembled a fine staff of coaches, that in my opinion, will be a recruting force in the midwest.

I'm sure there will be position changes, and a lot of attitude adjustments on this football team next year.

Good luck, and I fully expect to see the ND vs Purdue rivalry continue to be even more competitive than it has been the past 8 years.

Football players that want to play in warm, sunny weather are pussies. Give me a rain or snow game anyday. Those are certainly the games you remember: Like Tampa Bay or Dallas getting their asses handed to them in a blizzard at Lambeau Field.

I hope every one of those punks washes out, and if they don't: I hope they get drafted by Buffalo, New England, or Green Bay and freeze their nuts off before they're handed pink slips. If weather is their primary concern in life, they're pussies.

Typical Northner lol. Actually there is a reason for it. The reason is this: Why did our parents and grandparents move away from it? I may not be so good especially as a reciever to catch passes in those cold climates. I may NEVER get used to it - may be sick and not be able to play (i know there are several kids who came to northern schools from Texas and actually died up there) on and on. I mean there are reasons for them not coming up north and they may not all be pussies

in all seriousness, anybody thats ever played football in cold weather knows that within 5 minutes you have completely forgot about how cold it really is. i actually think most athletes would agree that they would rather train and play in colder climates. during the fall in south bend, the average temperature is usually between 40 and 60. in my opinion, that is ideal conditions to play football or any other sport for that matter.

I agree 100% When you are playing football, you forget about the elements and try to destroy the person in front of you ( I played DT in high school 6'4'' 300lbs). Your cold twice during a game, 1) when you walk into the locker room to get ready and 2) when your leaving the locker room to go home (only after a defeat).

Hence, pussies. I know not what you speak of, and have never heard of a player dying from playing football in the cold, though heatstrokes do seem to claim a couple lives a year during spring practice.

i remember football practice in 2 a days here in texas, it was over 100 degrees, but we fought through it. it does actually get cold here when the playoffs come around, not like up north, but in the 30's. its not the cold that kills, its the freakin wind that makes it feel like its 5 degrees. it rips through you because texas is flat.

I've told this story before, but my Texas highschool (Grapevine) played Wichita Falls/Rider in below-freezing temperature and snow, and it was probably one of only a handful of games I even remotely remember.

It also forces teams to run more. Snow games are by far the most fun.

I am not kidding - this is the first time i told anyone that because i expected a ruccus. They didnt play football and actually i am telling the truth - they died after they were near frozen cause the professor had to switch halls and they had to walk a mile in below 0 freezing weather. It never made the news cause they were "saved" at the hospital and they had surgery cause of the frozen fingers's, etc and died during surgery.

Im not trying to single you out buddy. BUT you are more likely to die or have a heat injury than you are to freeze to death playing football.

Especially while playing sports. Somebody is more likely to get heat stroke during a football game than die of frost bite or hypethrmia(while running around in pads).

And like somebody said, once you get going you do not even notice the whether. Its like going to the beach and the water is cold as hell. once you jump in and start swimming you do not even notice it.
Unless you are ridding the pine, then you might notice it more.(which is why Nelson didnt want to go to ND)

I dont believe i said in there that they died playing football. In fact i am 99% sure i didnt. But maybe i am wrong......

Are you freakin kidding me this is getting out of hand.

OK everybody knows I was in the military, during my time in the Army i was able to go to the SF Medics course in NC. So I know enough about medical injuries and pathology to not be considered ignorant.

Frost Bite is due to the peripheral tissues constricting and necrosis begins, due to the cold weather. When your body goes into extreme cold, it automatically attampts to save the big 3.Brain,Lungs,heart. That is why you start to have frost bite. Your body says, im going to worry about these main things that will keep me alive. And vessel constriction to the peripheral tissues begins.
In turn the extremities do not get enough blood supply(oxygen) to stay alive.

Your fingers, ears, toes and so forth begin to turn black. And need to be amputated. gaingreen will set in or the rest of the limb will under go necrosis as well.

Im not saying it can not happen in an hour but the odds are not that good(triple negative). ANd amputating an extremity due to frost bite is actually not that risky. there is already not that much blood supply to that body part so the chance of bleeding out are not that great. You are more likely to die from a secondary infection. But if all this happened in a DAY. I seriously doubt any of this happened.

So they didn't die playing football? so what the hell does that have to do with the topic of guys playing in cold weather.

They died because they went out for a stroll in sub 0 degree weather. Again what on earth does this have to do with what everyone is talking about.

Were talking about guys playing football in the cold weather, and how it's not a problem, and your just telling us about some guys who went out for a walk in cold weather and died.

I dunno what your talking about half the time you post bro, you need to be more clear.

I concur with Queens. I've only been posting to this site for about 2 weeks and I rarely know what the heck you're trying to say or what your point is. I would like to refrain from anything personal, but I almost think we need Svoboda or Rip-Rap to either edit you or filter you (or sometimes muzzle you ;)!) Just try to think things clearly before posting. Thanks!!

...Back on topic, weather means just about zilch. Michigan, O$U, now Iowa, Oklahoma and Nebraska are all very good examples of teams who recruit nationally and play where the weather turns pretty nasty. Ever since LLoyd Carr, Michigan has consistently gotten the top players from CA, FL, TX.

Wins are the greatest determinant for recruiting! That and the appearance of something good happening. Remember, Holtz came from Minnesota (whoop-dee-doo!) and inherited the greatest HS coach's (Faust) ND players. That first year, ND lost 5 games by a total of 24 pts -- you just knew something was happening!!

Very good point winning sells a school. ND not having a solid record last year combined with unstable coaching changes is whats hurting ND.

Nuther comment on the weather --- the weather in South Bend during college football season is perfect 95% of the time -- better than the south. It is the weather in the offseason that is difficult. There are no ice-bowls in college football.

But it is all about winning and getting to the pro's for the recruits.....last I saw but New England, Philly, Pitt were in the final four of the NFL - cold weather teams. Didn't see Jax, Miami, Tampa, San Diego in the championships. Notre Dame can and will succeed with Cee-Dub.
