After he spurs the Falcons to a Championship, I expect a lot of bandwagon Rossum fans in here.

I'll never forget that INT returned for a TD Rossum had against Washington. It Sealed the deal that day :gbanana:

Hey Im new where the hoes at?

I think Kevin Mcdougal is often forgotten when these conversations come around. Lets not forget the game of the century.

Kevin McDougal wasnt even given a chance to start until Powlus went down...he took the Irish to the brink of the title in 93....You gotta give him some credit

Agree with you on Powlus, thought if he had more talent around him and better coaching in the end, things would have been better for him. But he sure had the skills and guts. I enjoyed watching him play for the Irish.

Favorite player, by far, Kevin McDougal. Part of one of the greatest games of all-time and a very underated QB in Irish lore.

KMAC -- McDougie was so clutch in 1993. Are you referring to the FL ST game or the BC game as one of the greatest ever........both could qualify and McDougal performance in the 4th quarter of BC was outstanding.

I still think that Tony Rice was one of the GREATEST COLLEGE QB's ever - if not the greatest. His record in '88 and '89 against tops 10 teams is unparalleled.

I would have to agree that Tony Rice is one of the greatest big time game QB's ever. I was refering to the Florida State game were he "technically" out duelled the Heisman winnner Charlie Ward in making fewer mistakes and making the play when he had to. Being the 1st real season I watched and was old enough to remember that 1993 season is very special to me and McDougal is my favorite player of all time.

My first game I ever remember was in 88....but my best memory is from 93 when I was 11..I remember FSU game like it was yesterday....but when we lost to BC...both me and my brother shed some tears

One of my favorite 'forgotten' players is Lee Becton. The guy played hard and rarely fumbled. If my memory is right he had a fumbling problem early in his career. Then he started carrying a football around campus and other students would try to swat it out if his hands.

When he pulled a hamstring Holtz lovingly joked "I didn't think he was fast enough to pull a hamstring."

He wasn't the most talented player ever but he was a hard worker and dependable runner

I think thats what made those teams from 1988-1993 great was there was talent but there was also countless role players like Becton. McDougal not a Heisman winning QB with huge numbers but he got the job done and just won; Becton not the best back at ND in the 90's but he came up with key runs and could do the little things. Lake Dawson talented WR who made the big catch when needed, the list goes on and on. I was thinking this morning about a moment in that 1993 FSU game in which Ray Zellers ducked under a tackler, then broke one tackle and carried another tackler along for more yardage not necessarily a highlight real play but one of those plays that makes a difference in the game. That is that attitude that all ND players should have.

just goes to show that a great coach will get the most out of his players.

And an average (or less than) coach won't get greatness out of true stars. After the ND GTown hoop game, ESPN Classic had '92 Irish vs USC. USC under Larry Smith had guys like Willie McGinist, Rob Johnson,Jason Sehorn, Curtis Conway, Tony Boselli, Johnnie Morton etc......these guys finished 6-5-1 getting blown out by Fresno St in the Freedom Bowl....(Note:eek:f course the Lou Holtz coached Irish beat USC.)
