Boy, we suck again this year. We’re toward the bottom of the CCHA and are 5-10-5 as of January 8th. Yet we beat Boston College and Michigan State. I suspect we wouldn’t beat BC if we played them again.

But at least with the NHL being out there are more college games on television. My parents' place is in WCHA country, and that is where I am currently at. Still, it is somewhat disappointing that only teams like Minnesota (in Minnesota) get serious television time.

I like professional poker and all, but it would be nice to get some of these games on television.

i'd kill to see ANY hockey right now. the san diego gulls are OK (WCHL), but it's not as fun as rooting for college hockey, and the play is sloppy compared to the NHL. it's like if the NHL slowed down and the guys forgot how to pass, but they're still professionals.

my old landlord pirated satellite and got every local channel in the US (i'm serious). he could pick up WNDU. maybe if we all pirated satellite TV we could pick up some college hockey... dunno.

and i like professional poker. i made $50 playing last night, and i was far from sober. hold'em is fun once you get a your game grounded in solid theory...

I'm really suprised there isn't more interest in college hockey, even in the north. WCHA games are carried on FoxSports all the time in Minnesota, but I never see anything elsewhere.

Well, I can't get ESPN. So I guess I don't really watch sports unless I know they're on tv. I can say this: I've seen the Patriots win the SuperBowl, the Sox win the World Series, and the Bruins are currently undefeated.

WOW...I can't believe someone dropped a San Deigo Gulls reference on a Notre Dame board. I used to watch those guys all the time. Now we have the Admirals over here in VA. I was never much of an NHL fan, but I did like minor league & college hockey. I did a few hockey broadcasts when I used to live up in Massachuchets, and it's one of those sports that really doesn't transfer well on TV.

And for the record, I prefer the PBA or Trickshot Magic to the World Series of Poker (God bless ESPN2).

are you from san diego, lyght?? i grew up here, went back to ND, and then came back. we used to have gulls season tickets in probably 91-94, back when the team first came back into existence after their initial run in the 60s-70s. had sockers season tickets for years prior to that!

i think hockey on TV is pretty good, actually. it helps to have been to a lot of games live, so it is not a problem following the puck. i HATE when broadcasts have the glowing puck... we used to have a "fox bots" drinking game freshman year as i vaguely recall, i think there was some rule for the glowing puck....

I spent about 4 years in San Diego (military family). Went to a bunch of Padres, Gulls, and Sockers games...only one Charger game, though.

As for televised hockey, I think it works better after you've seen it live...kind of like soccer or lacrosse. I used to watch all of those sports on TV and I was lost...but once I went to a game live, they were much easier to watch on television. I wish I had a copy of the hockey broadcast I did...it was so funny. I was back in college & they had a southerner (me), and a guy from Roxbury, Mass. calling the game. The only way we were able to call it was to relate it to other sports. Examples: "That was a fierce check into the boards...much like a free saftey tackling a wide reciever over the middle". "That was a great pass...in hockey, the center is like the point guard in basketball, he distributes the puck and makes things happen." An hour & a half of that...classic.
