The Blue-Gray Sky had an article today about Lou and Ara being picked as the coaches for the Blue & Gold Game this year, and they stated that it would be interesting to see what Ara could do with Jimmy Clausen.

Which got me thinking... will we see Demetrius Jones running an option-offense for Lou Holtz a la Tony Rice? Oh PLEASE tell me yes.

Just like old times. :)

i think they're prolly gonna run charlie's plays more or less. so unless charlie adds the option to the play book, i doubt we'll see it.

I took notice to that also. Finally our OL is starting too look like beasts again and not just average. I think our D is going to have a total change of attitude this year. A lot of these young kids like to smack people and I think CB is going to give them that chance.

I think we probably will see some option from DJ and Clausen on his end will probably air it out. If DJ is on Lou's team, then who better to teach to him the option. If your an opposing coach next year, which would you prepare for? Coach Weis will probably keep everyone guessing until the very last minute.

I don't think these coachs are going to be teaching the kids anything. I think the game is more to execute what they have learned in spring ball. The addition of the coaches are just a plue so the players, recruits, and fans.

These guys are coaches in title only. What good does it do to teach Jones the option when he woyuld run it exactly never, wait we did run one option play last year. Plus, Jones ran the option on the scout team helping prepare for Navy and Air Force so I have a feeling he already has a grasp of how its run. As was stated earlier these guys are for show only.

I understand that you guys think this a dog and pony show, but outside of Rockne, these are two of the greatest coaches ever at ND and to think that they will not teach the players anything is just crazy. I'm not saying that they will take over practices, but for instance when running the option it's the sublte things that help sell it. Who would you think can teach those things? Besides coaching is not something you can turn off, especially when your on the sideline around players that help remind you of why you got into it in the first place, so Lou and Ara will be on those sidelines doing what they do best and that is coaching.

If DJ wins the QB battle, you can bet that Weis will throw in some options plays, not a whole lot, but just enough to keep the defense off balance. It was Weis himself that said that the offense will be tailored to not only a teams weakness, but also to the personnel he has on the field. ND's offense will be very young next year, so they will need every advantage they can get and the option can add a little extra to a teams plate while they get ready for the Irish.

It'll also be a mean set-up for some nasty trick plays. Run Jones on a couple of options to set up the defense, and then when it looks like they're ready to bite, run it again... only this time DJ tosses a floater to John Carlson who's snuck around behind the 8 defensive freaks who are trying to get them some QB, or maybe a long bomb to a streaking Grimes down the sideline.

Hell, Golden Tate played QB a bit in high school. Pitch it out to him and have HIM throw the pass. Hell, THAT could be the option in the play: Jones either keeps it himself and throws the pass, or pitches it to Tate, and Tate throws the pass.

Okay, dammit, somebody hand me a clipboard. I'm finding a high school team around here that needs an offensive coordinator.

why high school, with all you know about offence go straight to help college. I wish charlie weis would do more trick plays instead of the fake punts and fake field goals and all that stuff

Pfft. No way. Never played a down of organized football in my life, so I gotta start small.

Hell, I might be in over my head in high school football.

There's gotta be a Pee Wee League around here somewhere... 8-year-olds can learn how to run a flea-flicker, right?

Right?

I don't think option will be in the play book. While I like it on video games, hardly anyone uses it anymore. I think we will se lots of passes no matter who is under center.

I like the statement about Holtz not getting Clausen b/c of his not-so great luck w/ All-Everything QBs in Spring Games.
