This is part of the NBC article on Charlie and Petey...please notice the difference with their web sites:

Carroll, 55, is a carefree defensive guru whose practices are as open to the public as Ray Kinsella's backyard diamond. Weis, 50, is a micro-managing offensive robot genius whose practices are hermetically sealed. Carroll enjoys boogie-boarding; Weis, channel-surfing. Type in the URL petecarroll.com and you'll be invited to join the Pete Carroll Fan Club. Type in the URL charlieweis.com and you'll be directed to the Hannah & Friends site, the non-profit foundation for special needs people (such as Weis' daughter).

There is no comparison.

Poodle's practices and locker room are apparently open to agents as well.

as much as i hate pete carroll, he's a damn good coach and just because it invites you to join his fan club doesn't mean anything to me. You gotta be a cocky mo fo to be a good coach.

It doesn't say he is cocky. It just says he is ordinary and average, the kind of thing you would expect from most people.

Charlie's says he isn't any of those things. His says he's extraordinary.

It's funny though that when CW goes 19-4 in his first 23 games, you don't here USC fans singing his praises. They call him fat and arrogant. Today one of them actually posted something to the effect of "what has he ever REALLY done? He rode the coat tails of a defensive team to 3 Superbowls and beat up on nobodies his 1st 2 years at ND."

Carroll is a good coach and a winner no question.

Personally, I don't care for him much as a person. Simple as that.

USC fans will jump ship at the first 3 loss season. I find their obsession with Weis' weight comical.

you know most boosters flew off the handle when they hired carroll and called for his job his first season never wanting to give him a chance?

If you don't like usc then it's easy to not like carroll. His record stands for itself and he could be one of the best recruiters ever. He's a likable guy to young kids and you can't blame him for that.
I don't know, maybe a few years down the road something will come out about his recruiting practices...maybe not he's probably legit.
He's a good coach, but sorta like damon said on his youtube pre-game show.I just wonder how he would have turned out if he had gone to nebraska instead?

usc is a good place to go these days.tollner and larry smith might be doing the same there with alot of kids wanting to be around the hollywood lifestyle in today's society.

I like those big fat Super Bowl rings he wears from time to time.

Give Weis a year or two, that will change... Also, Weis has yet to win a big game. That will help to quiet the skeptics.

Why is it you bring this up in almost every thread? I am curious if you think ND two years ago under Ty were winning the big games as you put it. The defensive talent is not yet there and no one thought the offensive talent was there, but seems he is doing one hell of a job with what he began with. So I ask what is your obsession with this and what exactly do you call a big game?

I brought it up because jerseyborn1971 mentioned that USC guys bring it up. It's a fair statement, but only to an extent.

Honestly, if you think I mention it because I think Weis has something to prove over Ty or Davie you must be retarded. Seriously, such a baiting question is not even worth typing out.

Ty and Davie were FIRED for not winning the games they SHOULD win, let alone "big games".

Lou was the last coach to really win BIG GAMES. However, Lou had big time talent.

Weis is in year 2 of rebuilding. He is making the most out of a generally above average level of talent. Our talent does not match USC's, but Weis only has 1 loss like USC. So, clearly Weis is doing something very right.

I have no big obsession with this, but it's a fair thing to keep in mind.

What's a big game?

I dunno...beating a top10 team is usually big. Beating a Top5 team is memorably big.

When you look at wins over RANKED teams Weis & The Irish have beaten (using AP ranking)...it's kind of hard to crow about being a dominant contender.
2005 - none
2006 - #16 Georgia Tech

Me...I am just happy we are winning games again. Bare minimum we will have 19 wins in 2 seasons...it's been since 92-93 since we could say that!!! Weis will get all the time he needs to mold a dominant team. He will get the recruits, he will challenge them, mold them, make them better... Notre Dame will be on top again.

Right now though we have some big games to win first.

Everyone that says Weis is yet to have won a big game.... That is relevent if he is a coach of 4+ years. He isn't even through his second year yet, and he has had 4 big games. He won one of them, should have won the other against the "team of the century", and lost the other 2. It's ridiculous, the standards that people put on ND, while not applying to the rest of the country.

You are ABSOLUTELY right. Weis is rebuilding this team from the ground up. I would LOVE to see another coach have so much success in his first two years when having to clean up such a mess.

The proof of his success is right there...

In a couple years, beating teams ranked between 10-25 will be considered NORMAL.

Expectations are rising. Remember under Ty when we beat a ranked team? It was a BIG event. Now we are being nit picked for only beating #10-25 team.

If Carroll is such a damn good coach, why did he flop in the pros? Fact is, college success is a lot less x's and o's and a lot more recruiting- which, sorry, isn't "coaching" at all, but salesmanship. So Pete is a hell of a salesman. Frankly, it's hard to be a bad one when you're selling USC. As a coach? I'm not bowing down to him, whatever his record is. Look at Bobby Bowden's career win total. How good an x's and o's coach is Bowden? How good was he when FSU was a top team? Not good at all. For guys like Carroll and Bowden it's about recruiting and hiring assistants. And that's it. His NFL record is what it is, and THAT is where coaching really shines through. I've yet to hear a good reason for why such a great coach flopped in the pros. When people say "great college coach" it doesn't mean great coach, to me. Spurrier, Bowden, Carroll- not great football coaches.
