The ND QB Conundrum

Twice now, we've gone to the transfer portal—first with Hartman, and now looking toward Leonard—while highly recruited 4- and 5-star talent remains underutilized on our bench. Watching dozens of other teams, it’s clear their quarterbacks push the ball downfield without hesitation. So why aren't we developing our own talent? How is Leonard outperforming Angeli, a QB who came out of high school with even more promise?

Furthermore, we have Minchey and Carr—both Elite 11 quarterbacks, courted by almost every top program. If we want our offense to match the success of our defense, we need a QB who’s not just skilled, but a true gamer capable of generating points under pressure. My vote? We should let either Carr or Minchey finish out the season. It’s time to build from within and invest in the players who can take us to the next level.

They should prepare for the future, whether it's Carr, Minchey, or even Angeli. Allow Riley to preserve a year of eligibility by playing in less than 4 games so he can go somewhere else next season.

Not to absolve the QBs, but we have massive WR issues year in and year out, and people love pointing to the QBs. Del and Chansi fucked us, and I don’t expect Brown to do much better.

Riley Leonard was ass and most of it was his fault. But as time goes on and our QBs continue to underperform, it becomes apparent that they’re not the only issue.

Problem has been going on for some time now; hence, why ND has no QBs on opening day NFL rosters.

Disagree. This roster is loaded with highly recruited receivers.

What's concerning about Brown is he's apparently a terrible recruiter. ISD was sounding the alarm bells over the summer saying that pretty much no WR recruits talk about him and he really didn't get any blue chip WR's to visit campus.

If they wanted to, ND could get stud WR's in the portal or out of HS by simply outbidding all the other schools that are after them.

10000%. Some of the balls thrown today were not even remotely catchable. Mitchell had about three that were spiked in front of him.

ND has had one good QB in the last 30 years it’s no coincidence the title drought roughly spans just as long.
I get your point, but Tony Rice wasn't exactly a world beater at QB. You can still win in college with above average to good QB play. It's harder and the formula for it to work is even harder at ND, but it can be done. But you can't win with mediocre, and too often, we've had mediocre sold to us as good if not great.

Lou and Vinny were signing consecutive #1 classes in those days. Totally different ballgame.

I think ND’s problem is that the coaches have consistently become too enamored with “Athletic QB’s” potential as opposed to handing the reins to someone who is accurate, makes good decisions and is just mobile enough and building around that. Cheating aside, Harbaugh won a Natty doing just that.

Greathouse could’ve changed the game but he dropped it. That’s not a Brown problem; Greathouse needs to reel that in.

It was a tough day for our qb. Candidly, I’m surprised they didn’t give Angeli a look

That late / short throw in the 4th was abysmal
