Did anyone else see how the ESPN college football wrap up crew just shit all over the rest of our schedule, saying it was pretty weak as soon as we won last night. We take on a raked SEC team at their house for week one, come out with a win, and that's all they talk about. RIDICULOUS!!!!!
FSU, GT, USC, Louisville. It’s not a weak schedule at all. Practically no one plays a real schedule anymore.

12-0 is highly possible. To win it all and beat Georgia, RL is going to have to make some Josh Allen plays given our decent but exposable OL. One example is when he broke the tackle but then missed the receiver on a ground ball. That would have been an Allen play had he put a bit more air under it. Maybe he will improve as the season progresses. The defense is championship caliber. If RL can take the next step, look out.

Highest rated game of the weekend (pending LSU-USC tonight I suppose). Would've been in the top 15 for all of last season. (not counting the CFP)

The thing is we play 4x walkover opponents this year and no one projected to be a Top 10 team. We play ~5 teams that are "solid" top 25 types. Thank god we are in the new system so we don't have to worry about politicking for a Top 4 spot.

Sorry about your dog. We just had to put our 13 year old Cocker spaniel, Rockne, down last week. Think that's why I was extra shit faced for this game since he wasn't on the floor next to me
Thank you and I am sorry to hear about Rockne. Rudy was right there with me when I watched all of the away games.

I'm glad I stopped watching espn. Nothing but either jerking a team off, or shitting all over them. I don't want a zero sum game of analysis. They're supposed to be better than us at this.

Last night was the first game for my dog Lulu (I call her Lou for short, you can imagine why). She had never seen me be so loud, clapping, yelling, etc., before so she was freaking out. I hope by the end of the season she’ll adjust.

I’m sorry to all who have lost their dogs. I can only imagine that pain right now, and I’ve only had my dog for 4 months, and it would be excruciating. God bless you guys.
Thank you! What a first game for Lulu!!

It would be nice if we had a shot at top 4 but I understand why we don’t

Apropos of nothing, so sorry about your buddy Rudy. The biggest tragedy with bringing pets into our lives is that we're almost guaranteed to outlive them.

Glad that Rudy saw the Irish get the W on his last ND game. He'll keep watching on the other side of the rainbow road because his Dad raised him right.
Thank you, I appreciate it and Rudy will keep watching!!

A little late to the party, but that was a hell of an effort by the kids last night. Not perfect, and not always pretty, but they got stronger and more assertive as the game went along, and put their stamp on the game. Leonard generally played with poise, and managed the game well. Accuracy needs some work, but he showed real toughness on his runs. Beaux Collins was a real pleasant surprise, and is a monster blocking. He laid out an A&M safety on Price’s touchdown run that really helped spring him.

Oh, and how huge was Leonard’s recovery and gain of the fumble on the low snap in the second half? May have been the play of the game as it reversed a potential turnover into the drive that ended with Price’s touchdown.

The offensive line looked very green early, but Denbrock showed why he was worth the money bringing him back. In the first half, things were too slowly developing, and the OL was passive. In the second half, he adjusted to have them play. More moving forward and driving. Once that adjustment was made, they took over the game. The touchdown drive was a fantastic effort across the board, and Love showed some real nifty feet combined with some deceptive power.

The defense was nails last night when they weren’t jumping offsides. The secondary was aggressive and really supported well against the run. Shuler was terrific, and his interception stabilized the game early when the offense was finding its way. Late in the game, the pass rush improved, and I loved Golden playing aggressively after they took the lead inside of 2 minutes. No prevent crap that loses games.

They have to clean up the penalties and the tight ends need remedial training on blocking, but they went in and did what they had to do. Going to A&M and winning when you didn’t play nearly your best game is something to be happy about. Oh, and kudos to Freeman for his aggressiveness tonight. They may have found a formula in this game to be real successful. They need to lay the wood to Northern Illinois, but the sky is the limit.

Great night for the Irish.

Postgame Thoughts:
1) This was a MUST win game and they took out the biggest difference for A&M- their crowd.
2) Love & Price are going to be a headache for opposing defenses.
3) Our LB's are going to be a headache for opposing offenses.
4) The o-line is going to be a work in progress, to go in this environment with this line they got it done when they needed to.
5) Beau Collins was a nice surprise on offense.
6) Adon Shuler was a nice surprise on defense.
7) Jeter 3-3, enough said.
8) Watching Freeman celebrate is awesome, his love for the university, the football program and his players reminds me of Lou.
9) This defense is going to be special.
10) Leonard/Denbrock are just warming up.

On a personal note this was a tough week for my wife and I. We found out that our 16 yr. old Golden Retriever, Rudy has cancer and we are putting him down. This win was special, as it will be his last ND game.

Go Irish!!
I have a Golden myself. Our first. Can't even imagine the emotions. God bless Rudy and praying for him and your family

The only negative I have about the game is the usage of the TEs in the passing game. Flanagan had two catches for 25 yards......

i've been watching ND football for over 30 years and i told a buddy of mine and fellow irish fan that after last night's game i think this could end up being the best irish secondary i've ever seen speed, coverage skills and overall talent wise and told him it could be the best in the nation at some point this season if not now already

One rule change I'd like to see in CFB is to disincentize convenient injuries. I'm not accusing aTm of doing it. But we've all seen guys drop with "cramps" when an offense is turning up the tempo or when there is confusion on defense or whatever.

My proposal is the player has to leave the game until after the following drive.

Example: Colorado's offense was slow getting off the field and the defense was slow getting on the field, NDSU was at the line ready to run a play. Shadeur Sanders sees this and drops with a "cramp." Accordingly, play is stopped and Colorado gets a free timeout and an opportunity to get their defense on the field.

In my proposal, under those circumstances, Sanders would have to miss Colorado's next offensive possession.

If it were a defensive player, he would miss the remainder of the series and the following defensive series.

It could even be discretionary by the officials, taken in context of the situation. But I hate seeing this crap year after year, particularly by defensive players to buy time to stop the offense from running a play.
Go full football (soccer) and play a man down until recovered.

I think the difficulty is that that sort of rule would arguably result in kids feeling obligated to play through something they would otherwise get checked out so they won't miss the next series. With the focus on player safety that would be a huge political no-no.

Both defenses were flying to the ball. A&M did a fantastic job mostly stuffing the run & not giving Riley all day in the pocket. With that and a new OC, OL, QB all getting adjusted week 1 on the road in the toughest environment in college football, I'm thrilled we got the W.

The line held up well against likely the best DL they'll see.. Knapp performed better than Pendleton who had some glaring misses.

Our front 4 on D disappointed outside of Howard Cross who was missing a lot of the 1st half. Rylie had almost no explosion or disruption.. I didn't hear Oben's name all night or really any edge rusher.. All the pressure came from the blitz. I'd like to think maybe I misinterpreted this & will re watch the game but I recall A&Ms OL dominating in pass protect. We did a good job against the run though.

Seems like the light turned on for Sneed.. He’s playing fast & aggressive & will be a joy to watch.

Our secondary is filthy.

I’d like see a deep threat emerge in the passing game.. I’m not sure if it was a combo of game plan/A&Ms talented D or that we simply can’t stretch the field but we need that option.

All in all, a huge win in a tough environment.

Watching the Georgia/Clemson, Miami/FL, and tonight's LSU/USC game... the Irish need to be faster on the ball... last night's game, the D played well.. so don't get me wrong when I say this but.... all these games have been in 'High Gear' and the Irish need to step it up to 'Overdrive'...

I mean not true at all. I don’t think the schedules have been harder. Look at Florida. And I love our team but thats two ranked non top ten teams and two solid teams out of a 11 more games schedule. It’s pretty easy this year being honest

Some of the New Big 10 schedules are legit. Michigan plays three preseason top 10 teams plus USC. That's a lot harder than what they've been playing the last few years.
