I'm always reluctant to watch something else after GOT and TWD.

But damn.

It's got me hooked and I'm digging the plot and actors.

I am admittedly a bit confused so far but the action and characters seem pretty cool. I may need to read a synopsis. It definitely has a lot of potential.

I'm in the same space. Digging the characters, acting, etc...
A bit lossed though on a few things. Could be 1) whatever i'm missing hasn't been revealed, or 2) i'm multi tasking too much when I've watched.
Going to re-watch the first 2 episodes.

Enjoying it a lot so far. Dominic Cooper is great. Between Preacher and Howard Stark no one will ever know he's a Brit.

Don't read the synopsis or the book series you snatches.

Just watch and wait for god sakes.

What I've obtained is a spirit was destroying "preachers" and it's met the preacher we know and hasn't killed him yet. I think it's in him, hence the two nerdy exorcists.

In the meantime a centuries old vampire on the run has met the preacher and digs him.

Here we are.

Plus his old partner from back in his bad old days trying to rope him into another job.

PS Never read the comic/graphic novel. Enjoying it for its own self.

I just want to read the synopsis of each episode so I can get a better handle on names. I honestly don't know anyone's name but Preacher.

Haha.

He's a bad ass.

A vampire and a demon that has been bursting other preacher's brains seem to have taken accustom to him also.

Is the girl with the smashed dome going to reopen her eyes?

It's a demon (from outer space)? Are you saying that because you read the comics, saying it because of the story line (I missed it), or guessing?

I'm trying not to get more confused lol.

I'm assuming its a demon. I'm not a book or comic snob.

It attacked other preachers.

Demons are from hell. Not outer space silly.

Although I suppose this one did come in on a comet...

Shit. I give up.

Loving this series so far! The acting and the look are awesome and the whole vibe is right on the border of creepy and cool.

My take is the "spirit" or whatever it is was searching for a viable host to handle its awesome power. Preacher was the only one that was able to do so. Just my take. I haven't read anything about it. I don't read the comics and I stay off the fan boards. I also haven't watched Talking Preacher or whatever the thing is called that Chris Hardwick is doing to fill his time until Walking Dead starts again.

Hope you guys stick with it. The source material was fun and worth the time, unless you're strongly offended by the profane. They've definitely toned it down for the show. They've also made the curious decision to make things in the beginning of the show cryptic to the point of turning some people off. I imagine they should be offering a little more in the way of explanation in the next show or two.

So things got a bit clearer last night but I'm still very confused overall.

What I get from /r/Preacher is that everyone else is just as confused.

Not sure it got any clearer for me but I'm still digging it. The only thing I took away was that the two English dudes are from heaven (unless they lied).

They're clones. I think. With papal ties it seemed to be inferred if I read into it right.

And mortals certainly. Lol.

Awesome the vamp mowed their asses down. He's a step ahead of every fight. It's hilarious. I guess centuries of fighting will allow that.

I thought so too at first. However, they have the memories and experiences of the ones that died before them, so how could they be clones?

I am so confused.

I'm two episodes in and have no idea what's going on. I'm gonna give it one more episode, as there seems to be a lot to like, but they better give me a hook soon.

They said they were from heaven. If that's true I presume they are angels or something like that.

They are angels or something supernatural. they said they were from heaven, plus, after they got mowed down, a light flashed from the skies before the next two showed up.

Ok... Watched the third episode and I'm done. Still no clue what's going on, how the characters are connected or what the plotline entails. I'll keep up with the thread and get back to it if people start digging on it. But I don't have the time to keep watching a show if it doesn't grab me after almost four hours of viewing.

I mean I'm hooked.

I watched it before GOT this weekend.

But I'll tag you in if it gets better.

It's awesome, period.

Great acting, great characters.

What else do you need? The show is spelling it out, and it's pretty easy to follow, actually.

Great. Then paraphrase it for me after the end of the season. The show doesn't do it for me whatsoever. I'm glad you enjoy it though.

Eh, I don't think I'd agree with it spelling it out. I think the third episode was an improvement in being easier to follow, but all of my friends that didn't read the comic are still pretty confused.

As far as the actors, I'm totally taken with Ruth Negga as Tulip even though she's rather different both from the physical depiction of the character as well as tonally (in the comics she's a little less hardened at the beginning). I like both Cooper and Gilgun as Jesse and Cassidy and think they'll both get stronger as the series progresses. Biggest distraction for me is their (Jesse and Tulip, but moreso Jesse) occasional slips in the Texas accent. As one reviewer commented, some of the accent work in this show makes Andrew Lincoln in the Walking Dead sound like Billy Bob Thornton.

All that being said, I like the direction its going and I hope wooly gives it another day in court down the road.

Nah, I have never read the comic and I absolutely love it, because it is so different and the actors make it so worth watching.

If you cannot stick with it, oh well.

I will say that I do need to watch it more live than as opposed to DVRing, but it is definitely worth it.

Why would anyone "stick with" a show that most people admit hasn't developed the characters or plot line after 4 hours of viewing? I suppose that I have better things to do and there is plenty of terrific television. Plus, the preacher turned vampire-devily killer thing doesn't do it for me either. It seems hokie.

Btw, they better get their ratings back up to their premier numbers as well. As Sunday night is a hard place to live competing against GoT, NBA playoffs and the upcoming NFL season. It seems like they are going to need at least a couple seasons to explain the characters and how they know eachother. Not sure if this is a show with long term appeal.
