I’m not sure it’s bait though. He might genuinely believe in those rankings.

Yeah sometimes I wonder about these posts. If it's rage bait for clicks or if it's genuine. There are a lot of posts lately about ND's schedule, which is completely asinine at this point in the season. I should've copied it for here, but one said "ND has the easiest schedule the rest of the way." Of course that post got lit up with "vs Miami, at BYU, vs SMU....two top 10s and a top 20 team....but yeah, easy."

Whenever I think it's just for clicks, I remember last year's CFP selection process. These people mean it. They hate ND. Don't ever forget it.

Guy shares a podcast with cohosts who think the winning QB of ND-Miami wins the Heisman. Pure troll that hates ND.

These people are in business, and it's a business loaded with competitors where you need have almost no talent to compete. Guys like Kanell know what sells on this street full of morons and emotional jerks. The trick is to find your percent of the Morons and Jerks to appeal to. Going SEC is SAFE. But you probably need more than be just another SEC hacker. Note where he spreads it around above. And then the added ace -- complete ignorance of ND. This plays to his base while getting clicks from outraged NDers on top of it. If he actually had more talent and creativity (and therefore "presence" ) he might be able to get a bit more flexible and less strategic. This sort of guy is EXACTLY like a politician today.

Truly 100% does not matter what he thinks. If it's the NFL the scouts, GMs and coaches will know who really is the top QB.

There's enough media out there now that him not listing CJ won't even register with recruits - the kids will stop be impressed by his film and want to come to ND.

Kanell is a moron, but I do think he knows what he's doing here. A lot of sports social media discourse is rage bait to drive engagement. Sometimes they might genuinely believe what they say, but they express it in such a way to maximize outrage. A good example is a lot of the discourse around ND's schedule. I think maybe a good chunk of them believe that ND's schedule is a little light, but they hammer it strategically.

DK also pushed back against Miami/ND being the Carr/Mensah heisman playoff. Said he didn’t think Carr was good enough. I think the real issue is he is just looking at stat lines and not watching our games at all.

Bud has ironically slowly pulled back on his ND questions. He repeatedly over the summer said ND -7 was a bad line:

Danny twice this week kinda tried to shit on ND and Carr and Bud corrected him both times

Who is that Mike Allen idiot who asked the question?

My Miami buddy thinks they’re a Toney injury away from being in real trouble. Said when Toney leaves the game they get pedestrian on offense real fast.
When he was limited in the Wake Forest game they struggled BIG time

Apparently Miami has already been racking up a number of season ending injuries among their 2 deep. Sucks to be them, but I do want them to be fully available when we play them so there's no excuses when they freeze their asses off in a loss.

The AP poll is a media creation for media consumption.

It's the CFP committee's fault for letting it influence their thinking.

Edit: that's not to say it isn't fun to discuss. It is.

Even if the AP poll was removed ESPN would still make their own poll to drive attention to "high profile" games
Yeah, there is always going to be something to rank and order teams. Hell, every media network does weekly "power rankings" for professional sports leagues, and even though those mean absolutely nothing, fans still get outraged. Which of course, is the real point. Since we're going to have some sort of poll or ordering, I'm fine with it being the AP for historical continuity, but that doesn't mean I actually care about it. If the AP were to "drop" us to 4 or something, I wouldn't care at all. I learned last year there is exactly one poll that matters whatsoever, and it is the one that comes out the day after the conference title games.

We the consumers are guilty of "manufactured consent."

Analytics would also provide for "high profile" games, but instead we just sit back and let the media dictate the story lines. Greg Luca versus Josh Pate. Media heads with a third degree belt in idiocy. But here we all are, buying tickets to a sold out circus each week.
