Who deserves more recognition than they got as a player for the Irish?

For the last 8 years I'd say either Maurice Stovall, or Victor Ambiamiri.

Stovall was recognized, but he was a little bit overshadowed by Samardzija.

With 1149 yards and 11 TDs, I'd say he earns my vote.

Yeah, I went there!

Whatcha gonna do about it?!?

:devil_2:

I'll laugh a little about it.

Victor Abiamiri has my vote too...But there are quite a few who didn't get the recognition that they deserved.

The question is football, not baseball. ;)

I know. Im the one who asked it :). But do you remember Clausens freshman year when he went down with the injury and Sharpley stepped up and had some stellar performances for never starting before. Especially with the atrocious 2007 team. Theres some videos of it on youtube I saw a few months ago.

This is a year I'm trying to forever wash from my memory. Thanks man.

Matt Shelton. He was a deep threat and a consistent go to guy when Brady was young and inexperienced. Not to mention he was the holder on PAT's and field goals. He was a lot of fun to watch

In hindsight I think Justin Tuck was probably underappreciated.

Would probably also throw in Arnaz Battle and Tom Krug. Maybe Ryan Harris too.

Kevin McDougal

Won it all in 93 (YEAH I SAID IT) and would've won it all in 92 if given the chance.

Would anyone believe that McDougal had a total (passing and rushing) of 1,626 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season in 1993?

Think about how crazy that is.

Just to retreat into the twilight zone of ancient history to dredge up a memory: When Nick Buoniconti was deservedly making All-American teams for his offensive guard and middle linebacker play, he had a "buddy" who played the "other" guard as well as nose tackle [called "middle guard" back in those days.] This was Norb Roy.

Norb Roy was one of the toughest, meanest-looking SOBs I'd seen in my life --- I have no idea whether he was a "nice guy" off the field, but I'd believe anything. Roy invented a type of weight-training [emphasizing working against basically immovable countertension utilizing greater and greater "pulsed" strength exertion with your muscles]. At the time this was revolutionary as everything was moving movables with no change of exertion within any given lift or action. Roy published a short monograph on this which made many weightlifting scenes. In this he almost got it right, as later exercise equipment, which itself dynamically changed the amount of back-reaction it gave you, completed the idea.

Roy was a ferocious warrior, laboring in the shadow of Nick. But, with Nick he was team co-captain. While Nick was going sideline-to-sideline destroying opponent ball-carriers, Norb was root-hogging it every play down in the meathouse. I can never remember him leaving the field.

Pep rallies used to be a bizarre experience with the students yelling so loud at every four words that nobody could get a sentence out in their "speeches". But Norb did. He'd walk up to the railing in that old barn within which the rallies were held, and the mightiest, hairiest, nastiest arm you'd ever seen would come out over the railing, point at us, and a huge gravelly voice would say: EVERYBODY SHUT UP UNTIL I'M THROUGH TELLING YOU WHAT I WANT TO SAY!!.

Silence reigned.

Norb played several years in the Canadian Football League, once again not get the glory of his Hall-of-Fame buddy Buoniconti. .... but what a stud.

Paul Grasmanis, Lee Becton, Ray Griggs, Carlyle Holiday are each names that come to mind as players I thought were really good that never seemed to get the love they deserved....

McDougal's percent completion rate was out of this world.

In the old days, and I get to say this, Jungle Jim Martin. I can't get past him coming back from the war, playing any position they wanted him to and him dominating like he did. His feats, recon and swimming were still legend thirty years later when I went in.

I know at the time he received praise, but an average ND fan probably doesn't remember much about him.

Trevor Laws.

That man played with a fire that frankly the rest of his defense lacked. A great defender on bad defenses.
