The defense allowed 1 touchdown and a total of 16 points vs Stanford when our offense had 2 turnovers. Hard to see how that one is on the defense
It's not "ON" the defense, but the defense did not play well vs a terrible offense/team. We let them have 21 first downs, they had TOP of 36 minutes. The offense played poor of course, but the D didn't give them field position or opportunities or turnovers in the game.

ND took the lead in the fourth quarter and next drive stanford goes down and scores. Yes, we probably score if Estime doesn't fumble, but that wouldn't have guaranteed a win.

This was a game we needed the D to win it, and they were in position to do that and didn't.

That's because the offense was literally doing nothing all game. ND converted on 3rd and 4th down a combines 5-16 times. The longest possession for the offense ALL GAME was 3:45 seconds. You are only looking at the basics of the stats, and not the WHY. They won TOP because Notre Dame was literally giving them the ball. This game was never on the defense, it was on the offense shooting itself in the foot time and again. Christ, it amazes me how many people come on this board, rant, get shown they are wrong, and then take a backhoe to dig in deeper that a Paris catacomb.

Defense did everything possible to win the game. The offense lost the game for us not our defense. You can say that about every loss besides U$C and maybe Marshall. I don't know how you can have watched last season and put the onus on the defense. Could they have played better throughout the season? Of course they could have but to act like the defense is the reason we lost those games is just asinine

Your putting words in my mouth I have never stated. I never stated the onus was on the Defense or the Defense was the main issue last season. I just stated they didn't play great as well and had a part in the losses. It is very clear the offense was by far the bigger issue. That doesn't mean the D gets a free pass. Again, we had the lead in the fourth quarter and the D gave up points right after we took the lead in a low scoring game(Freeman even mentioned that after the game to not throw it all on the offense).

I must have missed the memo that if the offense doesn't play well the Defense can't dominate and win the game. :)

You know how many points Stanford scored the next game? And the game after that? And the game after that? And the game after that? I'll help you out, less than 16, and that's vs PAC 12 defenses.

Yes i 100% agree the offense was by far the bigger issue in the game, but that doesn't mean the D played great. They didn't. Stanford's TD was on their first drive of the game. The offense should have dominated and this wouldn't have been an issue, but they didn't. The D had a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter and give NDs offense more chances in the game, and they didn't.

I never ranted about using DEs in coverage, I ranted about how Freeman utilized them in coverage. More times that not when they were in coverage it was NOT disguised. It wasn't the baltimore ravens where there's 7 people at the LOS and it's hard to tell who is coming or who is dropping. Yes the first play i mentioned ended up being a good play, early in the first half. It took Norvell the first half to figure out freeman's D with the DEs in coverage and 3 down. He then exploited it in the second half, so did USC, so did UNC, so did OK state. Those were the offenses we faced that had a pulse.

Who the heck is everybody?

Everybody agrees that our use of DEs in coverage in and outside of our 3 down defense was smart and worked well? If so, i sure wish I had a shorter memory as a fan.
Still struggling to understand who everybody is?

This is exactly what the last few pages in this thread are reminiscent of: The Classic Koon Era- when he was gliding along in different threads, making contradictory statements, changing a stance mid-post, oblivious to everything, and honing his craft.

Tuscaloosa, AL is objectively a much worse place to live than South Bend, IN (was that the city?), and therefore great coaches like Saban are dumbasses....cuz mu reasons

Not koon. I’m sure IPs have been checked.

Read enough in the past to remember what was it called “Koons bod squad” or something like that?

Won’t be getting that from me. Sorry to disappoint
