I was in the process of creating a thread about him. Good timing. But I thought ND doesn't take junior college players?

starter since his freshman year was being recruited by Michigan State, Florida State and Buffalo as well.
If any of you has ever been to buffalo you would find this really funny.

Can I ask an honest question?
Why don't we accept juco's?
If they are smart enough to do the course work, and have the determination to get it done...then what is the problem?
Why would we not want smart kids that want to get the work done?

idk, if the guy can make the grades then why not...or is it that we are above that...sounds like he's a helluva player...im sure cw and bk know a little about recruiting talent...so if his grades are in order, whats the problem?

We don't accept jucos because freshman year at Notre Dame is more structured than at other schools. It's designed to give the students a broad base of skills to succeed at Notre Dame and is considered essential to the experience. With rare exceptions, it's not that ND doesn't accept JUCOs, it's that ND doesn't accept their credit that creates the problem.

Juco.... Prep... Same idea... He won't be at ND

If it were the same idea, the Irish hockey team would be in trouble. ND takes a lot of kids who've spent more than 4 years at the high school level. It's only when they try to transfer credit (Jucos) that it becomes a problem.

We do take prep kids but not juco kids. In fact we take a lot of athletes in hockey and lacrosse that take a PG year at a prep school.

In hockey it's the norm to PG or play juniors until your 20. It's not about grades, it's about getting better and older. I think in football, you might loose some eligibility if your too old. Am I wrong?

The Big 33 game produces some serious talent. I played in the 97' game, opposite LaVar Arrington. It sucked!

You may be wrong. I'm not an expert, but I think the clock starts ticking only once you've started playing the sport regardless of age. I know there was a guy at South Carolina in his 30s and Weinke was like 27 his last year at FSU. If there is an age cut off, I'm not familiar with it.

Wallace isn't a JUCO he's in a post graduate program at one of the top academic and athletic prep schools in the country. This is the same school and the same rout that Quinton Harris of the Denver Bronco's took before he went to Syracuse. It uses no eligibility, it's more for kids going to a service academy but it's a great way to get your grades up, Wallace has a 3.2 in a tough school. Doing this PG year is also getting him more used to playing defense. He had 58 tackles his senior year, which was his first playing D, he had 78 this season as a PG. He was a BEAST in the Big 33 game. That game is no joke, anyone from PA or Ohio knows that.

How old was Clausen as a freshman? Badger is on his mission for two years. Thomas Bemenderfer transferred after a year at NW. Ruffer started at Wm and Mary then transferred. Not much difference.

Wallace is a prep, not a JUCO. Worth considering if we have the need at the position and the scholie.
