Final Record Prediction (1/4 Season Mark)

I honestly think there is 0% chance we beat Stanford. I think there's a better chance an FCS school beats Stanford because Stanford might not take them seriously.

Why? It's not like McCaffrey is better than the Duke RBS that ran all over our defense!

*Also, does anyone else feel like this team plays WAY better on the road? IMO they poop all over the field every home game, but at least look competitive on the road.

It's early but Stanford doesn't exactly look good vs UW on ESPN

I voted 7-5 for some reason, but I should have put 5-7:

Stanford: Loss
Miami: Loss
Navy: Loss
VT: Loss
USC: Originally had them losing to USC, but I'm hoping our dumpster fire is less severe than their dumpster fire.

highlighted with the loss to Duke, and my complete lack of confidence in the dline; I cant feel confident about any game the rest of the way out. 5-7 if they're lucky.

2014 Notre Dame was 6-0 going into the Florida St game and should have won that game if not for a crap call.

After that they imploded but were not out of the hunt until well into October.

The point still stands that ND has underachieved more often than not. 2010 2011, 2013 were all years in which ND had at least two losses and was out of the ''conversation'', so this make 4 times in 7 years that ND was done for the year as anything but fodder for a middling bowl, if that. This year, ND may not even be eligible for a bowl of any kind.

Again, 8-5 should not be the standard year for ND, not with the talent that they have on the field.

2010-ND started 1-4, finished 8-5 (Out by September)
2011--ND started 2-2, finished 8-5 (Out by September)
2013--ND started 3-2, finished 9-4 (Out by September)
2016--ND started 1-3, finished ?-? (Out by September)

So yes, when I say that ND is out by September again, I mean it has happened more than once under Kelly. This is year 7. This should not be expected to happen with regularity at ND, plain and simple, not with this level of talent.

Also let's not forget that ND is 1-6 dating back to last year.

I think we end up better than most think. I think 7-5 is realistic because our schedule is pretty soft.

I think the most disappointing part of this season, when looking back on it, will be that almost every team on this schedule (at least every good one) had a down year. The wins were there for the taking, we just got off to the worst start in the BK era...

I'm definitely not as doom and gloom as the rest of you, but it sure is hard to swallow the fact we squandered what looks like it was a pretty good opportunity.

I said 9-3 so I am right where I need to be.

The Irish offense can carry this team the rest of the year IF the defense can just show some improvement and make some crucial stops along the way.

Pretty sad when our resident Alabama fan is the only one with even a shred of optimism for the rest of the season.

We are 1-2.

Based on our play so far and upcoming schedule, what will our final record be?

Remaining schedule:

Duke (1-2)
@ Syracuse in NYC (1-2)
@NC State (2-1)
Stanford (2-0)
Miami (3-0)
Navy in Jacksonville (3-0)
Army in San Antonio (3-0)
Virginia Tech (2-1)
@USC (1-2)

I'm guessing 5-7

Beat both Army and Navy
Beat 1 out of USC, Va Tech and NC State
lose to both Stanford and Miami

Honestly this might be the worst 5 game coaching stretch I've ever seen.

The opposition has been beyond awful and there is no reason not to be 5-0 right now.

We get it. Many agree. Making 10 posts to the same point in your first day of posting, though?

If we lose to NCSU we're probably headed for 2-6. Even with both games at home I have a hard time seeing a win over either Stanford or Miami. The only good thing is that the schedule then softens up with the service academies, a home game vs solid but far from great Va Tech, and a road game at bad USC.
