Let the party start in Cincinnati and then watch the fans walk across the purple people bridge. That would be great to see.

It would be badass. Not sure where the party would be at on the Ohio side for people to walk across the Purple People Bridge, unless a brewery gets permission to set up shop at Sawyer Point before each match, but the Brent Spence isn't a terrible option in terms of marching from the Banks.

The suspension bridge would be the best, but then you're marching into Covington, and then across another bridge to Newport.

Haha yeah I saw this on my twitter feed and thought I'd post to rile the Southern OH mafia on here.

Haha most of the ones that are easily-excitable[offended] are Buckeye fans.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Like what the Sounders do. They meet at Occidental Park and then march to the game.

Mohamed Salah. Hell yes. Speed on both flanks.

Time to go get a CB, LB, and CM.

Counters in the CL are gonna be sick. If we get through qualifiers I'm confident of us in the groups and knockout rounds. If we get a hard group, no big deal because they will give us space to play. 7-5-0 against the top seven last year.

It's an awesome signing. I've been a fan of Salah for a long time and he's a great fit for LFC.

More work to do though. LB and CB are still top priorities. Then we need a CM, if the right guy is available. I am assuming that Coutinho will play in midfield more often next year, with the addition of Salah, so I think CM is now a lesser priority, but still an area where we should strengthen if we can. The Oxlade-Chamberlain rumors won't go away, and I am intrigued by that possibility. He could be a good fit for Klopp in the Lallana/Wijnaldum role, with his athleticism.

Completely agree with you on all points. Salah brings the depth on the wing Liverpool was lacking when Mane was absent. For CM, bringing a guy like Keita would be great, but it doesn't look likely from what we are hearing the rumour mill(grain of salt). Then, defense, defense, defense...

First ever round-of-16 game in the Open Cup to be broadcast nationally.

Looks like MLS pulled some strings to do a live test of the Cincy TV market. Could it be the last hurdle for Cincy to secure a spot in expansion?

Could also just be an attention grab for the Open Cup. Use Chicago/Schweinsteiger and Cincy's attendance and capitalize on the eyeballs to market the USOC and MLS.

"Extorted" is classic Deadspin.

The club is doing their due diligence to find the best home for a stadium should they get an MLS bid.

They want the stadium in the urban core of the city, so they're going to ask Cincy for help via tax breaks on infrastructure, which literally every business in the city gets when they build. If the city says, "no, sorry, we're tapped out, and we're not going to ask the public for funds," then the club will build across the river in Newport. As much as some residents of Cincy would shout against it, the river cities of NKY are part of the Cincinnati urban core.

Newport is the best option anyway lol. The open end of the stadium with the city squarely in view would be most dope. As would the supporter groups marching across the bridges.

Didn't look further back than this page, so if this has been posted already, my apologies. Appears it may be difficult for MLS to expand much. Not sure why Indy didn't try to use LOS in their bid instead of proposing a new stadium. Everyone but die-hard soccer fans already knew there wasn't going to be any funding approved for a new soccer stadium. The just announce a new municipal courts/jail complex in Indy.

Sacramento and Cincy look like the best bets at the moment for two out of 4 spots. Tampa Bay is also a big option/threat, but Beckham's Miami team might eliminate their chances. Three teams in Florida would be a lot.

So Miami, Cincy and Sacramento look to be okay for three out of four expansion spots. Anything could change at any moment, though.

As for the Indy team using Lucas Oil, the MLS wants each team to control the rights to their own stadium. FC Cincy has a REALLY good thing at Nippert, but they have plans to build because they've basically been told that Nippert isn't an option if they want MLS. I'd imagine the same is true for Indy, despite Lucas Oil being a pro venue.

dude still hasn't scored more than two goals in a premier league season. honestly think he belongs in the championship or league one, yet he gets linked to big clubs all the time. he's god awful.

NSIS ... or trolling maybe? ... I watched him play a fair amount for Roma and I've really liked what I've seen.

The Ox played for Roma? I think you misread the post.

Oh mea culpa. I missed the bold and thought fightingirish was talking about Salah.

Yeah buying Ox would be a risk. He has not proven himself. The hope is that he would prove to be a fit as a center midfielder under Klopp even though he might not really work there under other regimes, in precisely the way Adam Lallana shone in that position last year although he had never shown that he could be so effective playing that deeper role. But we already had Lallana in the team ... taking that risk and spending 25M to do it, like we might have to do to get Ox, is a totally different matter.

FC Cincy/Chicago got moved to the main Mothership channel tonight on account of Florida/LSU not needing a game 3.

I'll be the guy in the crowd holding up a "WE WANT BAMA" sign after Cincy pulls another upset. Tune in at 8pm to see a really nice soccer atmosphere live.

From a related article from the dreaded Deadspin:

The televised package will now suffer because of NBC’s longstanding preference for airing matches involving the biggest teams. This means cable-only subscribers will miss out on some damn good matchups involving slightly less popular teams (a Tottenham-Southampton match, say) in favor of boring ones involving a big-name team (think something like Manchester United-Burnley)...

The streaming-only package, for its part, is similarly incomplete, because even paying the $50 fee won’t be enough to get access to the marquee matches that drive the league. For those, you’ll need either a cable subscription or a subscription to a streaming service that mimics one.

In order to follow the Premier League with the depth NBC’s previous setup allowed Americans to do, then, you will now need to pay for two services. In a way, NBC pulled off a classic drug dealer move: give away samples of the product in its purest form for free to get the fiends hooked, and right when the new addicts come back for more, water the product down and jack up the price.

Man this really bums me out.

On the other hand, I guess 49.99 for the whole season is pretty cheap. But I already pay so much for cable, any additional fee feels like gouging.

was the same when i was growing up as a kid, the EPL games were free to watch on television on Irish TV until Sky realized there was money to be made there from an emerging fanbase and then made all the games only viewable on cable.

I feel like this is gonna backfire badly.

NBC has the rights to.... maybe the fastest growing sports viewership in America. They have a solid product. They do a really great job. But how many people are going to stop watching now?

I'll pay the $50 but a lot of peoole will not. They'll turn on fox and watch Bayern Munich bend Hoffenheim over a barrel.

Agreed. They can already show up to 4 games at once on cable. No need to do this other than they can.

It's really not that bad if you're a fan of a top 6 club. And my guess, but this is based on pure assumption, is that there's a 75% chance if you follow a PL team, it's one of Arsenal, Spurs, United, City, Liverpool or Chelsea. The 150 games for the additional $50 are the bottom of the table teams. Sure, there are people who will want to watch the bottom of the table clubs, but I don't think the average fan is too affected. With all 380 available matches last year, how many people watched more than 200? A lot of it has to do with public perception (which right now it's bad), but I don't think it's going to be a huge kick in the balls to the average viewer. They will still get the best matchups week in and week out.

Chicago should've had two goals in the first ten mins.

Cincy has parked the bus, awaiting counter-attack opportunities. They've had two really good chances. A heavy touched foiled one should-be goal, and a dumb cutback ruined another chance.

Nippert looks to be sold out or very close though. 35k in the house for a game on ESPN should look realllllly nice to the MLS.
