Breathing freer now. This team is really hard to be a fan of, because I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel --- even with some reduced goal visions. Maybe you guys can bring some understanding.
This is a frustrating sport unless you have people with great foot skills in tight places from about the midline to about the top of the box. We have very few people who could even make a claim to be that. The objection that I've had with Altidore (even though he fed Pulisic well on the goal) is that he can bring a ball down to his feet but rarely deliver the next ball to anyone productively. Dempsey can occasionally still deliver a productive ball, and so can Bradley. Most of the other guys can't, other than the obvious (Pulisic and Nagbe).
So who do you start? Howard/ Cameron/ Brooks/ Pulisic/ Nagbe and then who? Probably Dempsey and Bradley since few others can do anything productive with the passing game. This was the first time I saw Villafana look decent at that. Yedlin doesn't seem to be good at it, but his speed cures his other ills. Is that good enough? Johnson has looked actually bad in the last two games --- he completely dogged it on the Venezuelan set piece goal. Do we have anyone with really good foot skills? (other than the obvious.)
