Was worried something like that might happen... new manager, very odd venue/location... only ONE transfer in thus far... could be an odd season all around.

We will see the return trip to Glasgow... I expect a different 'feel' in many regards.

Ambrose has GOT to go... he has single-handedly taken Celtic out of multiple competitions in the last three years... it's unreal. I saw a Celtic message board this morning where everyone was awaiting the starting 11 and when he was announced the whole tone went to, 'oh hell, this can't be good'... and look what happened.... you still have to think they can easily take them by multiple goals next week... gonna be a long week of high end hyperbole though. Seriously, people are calling it the worst loss in the history of Scottish soccer... that's insane. Just a few years back Aberdeen lost in the same qualifying round to something called Sigma Olomouc by 7... SEVEN... goals on aggregate.

Well, to be fair that comparison is really weak. The Czech league is ranked well above the Scottish Premiership. Losing to a top-tier Czech team is a far cry from losing to a semi-pro team from Gibraltar. I don't doubt that this is the worst loss in the history of Scottish soccer.

Well,... 'in fairness' ... Rangers lost an entire aggregate to fvuking FBK Kaunas (Lithuania, at the very bottom of the stupid nation rankings) before and Aberdeen lost by 7!!!! Not by one goal, in one game, at a venue that might as well been in outer space, on a surface none of them have ever played on before, in their first competitive game as a unit before said unit is even fuvking complete. This stupid over the top hyperbole is just that...

I ALMOST posted this morning that I had a bad feelings, it's their biggest game ever, they have a set squad that has played multiple competitive matches this calendar already, this is Celtic's first, and CFC is actively and openly looking ot move three/four guys while looking to bring in 3/4 others... not a recipe for continuity... it's also the first round of an agg in their house and their house is really 'strange'.. its just has a weird feel to it the rock of G towers right over it... when I saw the pitch and read up on the imps I thought it might be one of those games... I wasn't surprised, but apparently the rest of the world is and now Celtic should just cease operations now and forever as they disgraced the entire western world... fvk. the. over-reacters. Win the agg next week and no one remembers this moving forward.

I got home from work, got on my computer, and came in this thread specifically to laugh at you.

Rough luck man. I'm sure you'll knock them on the return leg, but damn that's funny. The left-back was driving a taxi until 1:00 PM today.

If they lose the aggregate I'm on board with the history stuff... But... From what I've read they dominated play and possession, hit the post multiple times and got Efe Ambrosed on one play... That shit happens all the time all over the world in one off matches... Im not shocked or really upset being the first competitive match of the season... But the post match talk was somewhat irritating...

Anyway, let the racist biggots laugh... for now.

Damn. I'm a Man United fan but have always been fond of Celtic. Dark day for the men in hoops. Losing to the real Lincoln City wouldn't be great, to lose to these guys? Ouch.

Lol ACamp you can't be serious. A team with as rich a history as Celtic losing to a semi-pro team with a policeman striker in a Champs League match?? There's nothing fair about calling the opprobrium an overreaction. True, there is a whole other leg to go, and Celtic still has a chance to totally redeem themselves and there is no sense re-writing any history books yet, but let's call a spade a spade.

I am not trying to razz you. I have always pulled for Celtic myself, ever since I read this piece in SI as a kid:
http://www.si.com/vault/1999/05/17/...er-rivalry-in-the-world-celtic-versus-rangers

But like I said, let's call a spade a spade.

Going to see Crystal Palace play at Nippert Stadium this Saturday against FC Cincinnati. Pretty jacked up.

Will Crystal Palace be resting their stars for a friendly like this, or can I expect to see the big names for a little bit at least?

Big names? Crystal Palace? ;)

That's awesome though. I wish United were doing another American tour.

Haha I know they have one or two guys that might be on the move to new, bigger-name clubs, and I know they were in the middle of the table last year, so I figured they had at least a couple guys that I should be on the lookout for.

I was going to go but I have to attend a surprise birthday party :(

I will be going up to Columbus on July 27th to see Real Madrid v. PSG though!

Oh yeah, Crystal Palace has some legit talent. They had a great first half of the season last year, but they just struggled to score goals down the stretch. I know they are looking for a striker. Trying to snag Benteke from Liverpool, last I heard.

Palace have some really exciting midfielders. Wilfried Zaha, Bacary Sako and Yannick Bolasie have elite athleticism. I am actually stunned that Bolasie hasn't been bought by a big club yet. Jason Puncheon could probably go in that "exciting midfielder" category too. Then you have cagey veteran midfielders like Joe Ledley and Yohan Cabaye, who are fresh off top-4 Euro finishes (Ledley for Wales and Cabaye for France -- but to be fair, Cabaye barely played for France this tournament). Oh and they just bought Andros Townsend too, a veteran winger for England and Tottenham.

They need more quality up front (though Connor Wickham had a nice goal-scoring stretch at one point last year) and in the back though.

Palace have an American owner and are really reaching out to American media and fans. Definitely one of the BPL teams I root for. Rog from MiB made a documentary about the club, in fact. Easy to root for the hardscrabble South Londoners.

Anyway, in recent years I have been surprised and delighted that most of the European clubs coming to the U.S. in pre-season have brought a lot of their best players. I hope Palace is following suit.

The bolded are the names that I've become familiar with after looking up some highlights and doing some reading. It's amazing how quickly you can start to pick up on things once you've made yourself more familiar with the sport.

I hope to see their starters, but there hasn't been any news on official lineups or anything yet. It's usually released an hour before kickoff for regular FC Cincy matches, but I was hoping a match like this might result in some earlier information coming out, at least about who all traveled across the pond.

I guess that since this is my first time seeing a Premiere League team in person, I have to adopt these guys as my favorite club.

Seriously? Heading back to Cinci for 8 days and this may have to get added to the list of things to do while there.

Should be a nearly-sold out crowd at Nippert on Saturday night, so I'd look into grabbing tickets soon if you're really thinking about it and want a decent choice of seating.

They usually have banners on the upper deck to make it more home-like for FC Cincy, and to decrease capacity, but I think they have to take them down for the number of people planning on being there.

Nippert is small (40k), but the way it sits below campus level makes it a really cool site to see when it's sold out.

So I go on Vaca and unplug for a couple days and BVB turn everything upside down... Interesting.

Loving seeing Celtic on ESPN right now tho...

I always liked him well enough, more than anything I blamed the Heartless Huns for turning him into a mercenary.
