Re Poland v. Portugal: Was rooting for Poland to pull it out, but Renato Sanchez... very glad he's going to be taking over for Xabi Alonso as Bayern's holding defensive mid.

Fascinating game yesterday. I am so impressed with Italy. The world champs had very few chances against that defense.

But Italy were outplayed in midfield, and you can't help but wonder how it might have been different if Italy didn't have so many midfielders out. De Rossi injured, Thiago Motta suspended, and Verratti and Marchisio out the whole tournament.

Don't agree at all. Germany were better, but that was what everyone expected, and Italy held Germany to few clear-cut chances. Then in the second half, there were a few passages of play where they outplayed the champs. All in all a really gutty performance, especially considering they were undermanned.

They play very defensive. I find it frustrating to watch, particularly when it's a country as accomplished as Italy.

And an assist. He is just 19 years old and will be getting his American citizenship in a few months. He moved here when he was 12 from England. Sounds like he wants to play for the US. He is already more talented and quicker than Zardes. Just not as fast.

Hyped about the NYCFC win and they are top of the table.

Sad about Iceland but their Euro story is just the beginning for them I have a feeling. We will see them again in 2018.

To be fair, this Italian squad is a shell of its former greatness. Outside of Buffon, no one from this squad would start for that 2006 squad. Not even Chielini or Barzagli.
