From the info shared, it will still be the same D with a few tweaks. Wants to create more opportunities for the DE's and may not blitz as much as Golden.

I am not super worried about this hire. Freeman knows what he wants and has the experience now to get what he wants. And we have some great assistants that seem upbeat and positive in their interviews so far.

Agreed with the first sentence. With all the shit happening in the world, this is the absolute least of my worries.

Urban Meyer hired DJ Durkin a couple of times, too, but Chris Ash isn't him. So that's good.

So, I'm confused. I thought that a LOT of heavy blitzing PLUS "heavy man coverage" was what Golden did. So how is using heavy man coverage a way to be aggressive without the blitzing? I'm concentrating on the key word "Aggressive" here. "Heavy Man coverage" in itself doesn't seem necessarily "aggressive." Aggression would have to come elsewhere.

Now, my meagre defensive football knowledge tells me that you CAN be "aggressive" in some senses if you use heavy man coverage, AND sell out vs the run --> meaning that man coverage plus stacking the box equals "aggressive vs run offenses", but that's not Golden-style aggression vs everything. If you folks can give me an Ash primer on what he means by aggression without blitzing, I'd be grateful for that.

This was a bad hire then and it will continue to be one. This defense looked bad. There was no aggressive play, soft coverages, Golden’s delayed blitzes were bad sometimes and yet I would have welcomed them tonight.
