I'm not calling for BK's head but his shtick is wearing thin. Yeah we're 2-0, great we were 6-0, and 7-1 (and really within reach of 8-0) last year but where did that get us? The thing is we are too far into the BK era to still be hanging around scrub teams like Virgina. We have too much talent on defense to be getting torched by the likes of Matt Johns (or whatever his name is) on a regular basis. I'm tired of watching Notre Dame make s**tty, third tier QBs look like superstars at least 4-6 times a season.
The thing is I don't see a lot of tangible improvement in all facets of the game from year 1 to year 6. We make the same mental mistakes, the same defensive errors, we have not to date developed a reliable QB, our offensive play calling from the calls themselves to the system to call the plays in has sucked from day 1, etc. Think about we're 6 years in and we're still getting delay of game penalties and burning time outs because the system is so complex and confusing no one other than BK himself can apparently understand it. Also I've never seen a team so allergic to the endzone once in the redzone in my life.
This entire game today is a loop from every season under BK. I mean I swear to god the exact sequence of events has taken place before:
-hot start out of the game
-dominate in everything but the scoreboard because we can't finish
-some fluky play takes place
-scrub team led by some never-was QB catches fire
-ND defense collapses
-3rd tier QB has a career day
-ND never really recovers from collapsing
-gut wrenching loss/borderline miracle to win
We have that exact game about 5 or 6 games a season. We shouldn't need a 38 yard bomb from Kizer to beat Virgina. We should never, ever, under any circumstances...EVER lose to Northwestern in the 5th year of a head coach's tenure.
We're becoming VT and UGA because we're so afraid that we'll hire another Charlie Weis that we're probably pissing away our chance at our own Urban Meyer or Nick Saban. I was a big BK fan from year 1-4 1/2, yet the sequence of events from the time we stepped foot in Sun Devil Stadium to now has left a bitter taste in my mouth. We just haven't progressed that much from 2010 to now. It really makes realize that 2012 was just smoke and mirrors and a lot of luck. We're a lot more talented now than we were in 2010 and a few things in the program are in much better shape, but now we're starting to waste talen a la UGA by hanging onto a coach who I'm not convinced has the goods to get us over the top. But at least Mark Richt is good for 10-11 wins pretty reliably with a few down years sprinkled in.
I'm not calling for BK's head, but I don't understand the sunshine pumpers either. BK has a plethora of excuses ready at the end of every disappointing campaign, at some point you have put up or shut up. Urban Meyer stomped Alabama and Oregon last year with his 3rd string QB.
