I think Blair is a safety, but maybe I'm just an optimist.
And maybe he is. But they are still not the same quality of prospect. Not really even that close, per the collective services.

Here is context.

Per the composite.
- He's the 2nd highest rated player in this class.
- He'd be the 4th highest rated player in the '24 class.
- He'd be tied with Jagusah for the highest rated player in the '23 class.
- He'd be the 2nd highest rated player in the '22 class.

He's an elite talent per the services. The type we really don't sign very often. No other way to put it.

The commitment can't be a HUGE deal and then the de-commitment not.
On a personal level one just has to not accept the commitment. That’s what I do with these fellas. I don’t think the flip / commitment to Michigan is any more of a commitment than the ND one.

Unfortunately none of them really are now. And if they get pissy in a year, they can just enter the portal. I hate them immediately being eligible after transferring. There's no reason to tough anything out anymore. And I believe it made them really think about that decision. I won't hate on a kid for doing anything technically legal. He'll probably regret it while he's watching us winning playoff games and he's playing in the Las Vegas bowl.

Yeah, have to wonder what kids that didn’t choose ND, or left, then didn’t make the NFL, have to think. Does it ever come back to mind that they could have had that degree?

this. the free transfer rule is what has destroyed college football more than anything else

Way too soon to proclaim “destroyed”
it destroyed the connection between players/school/fans. every player is a free agent for hire at all times now. the second they are unhappy or another school offers them more money they’re gone.

it prevents the smaller schools from building anything special; as soon as a player at a smaller school has a great season, in swoops one of the big boys to purchase them and there’s no penalty of having to sit out a year like there used to be.

the rich get richer now and the have-nots have less. college football is turning into the NFL. yes, the old college football, we all loved is destroyed

This. Sorry that I miss watching a recruit develop over 3 to 4 years. It's instapot sports these days. No one wants to wait. It's "what have you done for me lately". Give me recruits that want it badly. If there's no other option, by all means transfer. But we've seen what 1 great year can lead to in the draft.

I mean, the commitments are always going to be better, but I've arrived a point in life where it's just teenage athletes doing things and none of it matters because Oregon is going to play Rutgers in the Big Ten now and the world is going to shit.

I'm 46 and bruised a rib last week, so I've got issues going that Ivan Taylor can't bother with.

What’s he going to think when Watts earns AA again and we are 11-1 or 12-0 in the playoffs and Michigan has 4 losses and a bid to the Hacienda Bowl?

But, we haven't, see above. We didn't lose him because we added Blair. And as someone that loves Blair. He will not be playing S long term. 6'5 200 lb HS S's do not play S long term. They are very valuable pieces to a roster but not at S. Which is why there are so few in the NFL.

Haha, that's one guy. How many S's play regular snaps in the NFL? 40? 60? How many are 6'4 or taller?
2 of my favorite safeties in the NFL were Sean Taylor and Kam Chancellor. Both I think 6'3.

I do agree it's rare to have a very tall safety, especially in college. I think his path to playing early will be more big nickel near LOS

Just out of curiosity, did Taylor make a post or comment on this decommitment from ND or did he drop us and commit to Michigan?

It will be interesting to see what he does when Michigan goes 5-7 this year, I hope OSU wins big vs Michigan this year.

Michigan is still going to have a really good defense… I’d be shocked if they go worse than 8-4

I don’t agree with much of what you post here, but I agree with this. I think they can even do better than that if they somehow win that Texas game. That would be a huge momentum boost for the rest of the season. I think their defense will be nasty with the guys they still have up front.

As we saw last year, defense only goes so far if the offense struggles.

Michigan has to replace pretty much everyone on offense, and that is likely to the hindrance of their defense. A defense can only carry a team for so long. If they want to keep things fresh, Moore is going to have to have his unit running at full speed by the start of the season, and with them replacing their entire OL, plus their receivers and backfield, that's hard to see happening.

They do have a good bit of talent returning on the DL with Graham and Grant, as well as Will Johnson at corner, probably the 2nd best corner behind Morrison. But this will also be a new defense transitioning from Minter to Martindale, one of which is older and hasn't coached the college game in decades.
