Inside scoop from his training group (Traction) here in FW.

They feel really confident he’ll end up at ND after his visit this weekend. I asked if he’d be WR or S and they said for sure safety which surprised me. They think is ceiling his enormous on the defensive side of the ball.

Freeman keeping the recruiting train hummin boys.
Is this based solely on the visit or do they feel confident he's taking care of business in the classroom

Overall. He’s also Jaylon Smith’s cousin so they know what is needed and expected academics wise.
Would seem like if they were cousins (in the typical thought i.e. 1st cousins) there would be at least one article referencing that fact. I can't find anything other than BobbyM referencing a guy who posted on 247 mentioned they were cousins.

I'm skeptical that they are close. I get that he might be related in some way and probably did idolize Jaylon.

Frank Martin, the boxer, is Jaylon Smith’s cousin. He told me there were a handful of people he never knew he was related to until he was a teenager. He said they are just related, but don’t really know each other, (when talking about some of those relatives).

I hope he doesn't have an "Uncle" reach out looking to develop a relationship later in life.

Frank is really doing well for himself!

Loy has an article up.
He said both sides have interest but "not sure if ND will be able to pull it off..."

Later - has a post saying Braunte doesn't have green light to commit.

Aka: for those keeping score - Myron Graham, Brauntae Johnson, and Nitro Tuggle - none able to make ND academically

I can't help but wonder if he'd be able to get through admissions if he went to Luers or Dwenger.

Are you saying even if he had the same grades, if he went to those schools there is some backdoor way he would get in?

So this falls right into a lot of the angst that has been projected onto the board in recent months. How prepared to be disappointed is everyone individually here with these guys?

How much time are the interested parties going to invest in trying to make enrollment happen or should they even bother at all?

There are a lot of high school players out there in the 2024 class and plenty of them can get into Notre Dame without much issue, if any at all. I get these three dudes are all from the state of Indiana, but that ultimately should not matter. They could be from Virginia like Hillman or California or Texas. The question has to become "is the juice worth the squeeze?"

The landscape with admissions, NIL, all of that isn't going to change. We accept it as fans in our own ways. Freeman and staff have got to start looking at where they want to spend their time and who is worth jumping through hoops for so they don't get burned on the back end. Quite frankly, getting admitted and enrolled is the easy part. Staying at ND and eventually excelling on the field and getting a degree is the actual hard part as far as I'm concerned. The powers that be need to be transparent with Freeman so he knows EXACTLY what his parameters are and Marcus needs to understand those parameters so he knows to fish where the fish are.

Excuse the rant.

Yeah but.. so many of my all time faves were high risk long shots… big chocolate, zorich, tony rice. Hard not to hope against hope if the player shows the love and potential attitude to pull if off. Also had no idea how bad Allen county public school are, seems like on the rare occasion they want a SBCSC kid they can get it. I would not have though South Bend schools > fort wayne schools.

Zorich and Rice are approaching 40 years since being admitted. We need to wrap our heads around that. Hell, Irish Chocolate was a Weis recruit who signed with Kelly when he was hired. THAT almost feels like 40 years. The Holtz-Cerrato days are long long over with.

I don't know what goes on behind the scenes with this and I consider a recruit "done" when he's actually in uniform at a practice. That's just how I approach it after all these years. I really don't know what is going to happen until it's actually done, but if it were me, I'm going to try and land the guy I am going to have less problems getting through. If the administration and admissions are as rigid as we are making them out to be and we continue to see this cycle repeat, they're going to have to be very calculating in who they select to pursue.

You can include me in the group of posters here that is looking ten miles down the road at all that could possibly go wrong with Johnson and every possible excuse as to WHY he will NOT end up in that gold helmet at a preseason camp in 2024.

Was trying to think of some relatively recent players that got into ND with mediocre grades. Did some digging and found these:

Paddy Mullen (2006): 2.5 GPA, 20 ACT (Had a 2.2 GPA entering his Senior year)
Robert Hughes (2007): 2.5 GPA, 17 ACT
Ian Williams (2007): 2.6 GPA, 18 ACT
Louis Nix (2010): 2.5 GPA

DaVaris Daniels (2011) had a 2.4 GPA listed on his profile
Jarron Jones (2012) had a 2.5 GPA entering his Senior year

So we're back to Page 1.

I don't know why I ever listen to ND fan sites when it differs from sources that aren't dancing for my $10.
