No.

Sevillano is the guy replacing Wafle.

Scott is a luxury pick. ND seems to be keying in on a core DL class of Thomas, Mullins, Young, Sevillano and Mylachi Williams. Then they're going to swing for the fences for Scott and Rushing.
Got it, so we go full melt down if Scott or Rushing pick other schools and we are horrible and will never win anything, right?

All that said, if Sevillano is the guy to replace Wafle, I'm scratching my head on that one. I like Sevillano's size, but Wafle looks more athletic and longer, so I can see him getting up and past 300 pretty easily. I know Sevillano is already 325, but I imagine he has to cut some of the baby weight down and I'm not sure he's going to be as explosive or disruptive as Wafle could be. Maybe they project him better at demanding double teams and being a mauler in run defense.

I don't know, I'll have to concede to the experts on this one. I was a fan of Wafle.

ISD saying Sevillano deadlifts 700 pounds, squats 600 and bench presses more than 400. If that's true, I'm not sure he'll need to cut baby weight, and he most likely doesn't lack twitch at those numbers either.

I just think they've taken guys like Wafle with similar body profiles in the past two classes, and not many in the Sevillano/Scott mold. Hence the focus on the latter two.

I think this is well said, and really echoes what Driskell (gross) was saying during the Thomas commitment pod. You need a variety of body types and Big Sean gives us that. I know timeline wise it looks like he is replacing Wafle but I think the more apt comparison would be to say the Mullins/Young commitments sealed his fate. Mullins was a relatively late find.

What?

Dude was up past 280 prior to his senior year. He can definitely get big enough to play interior.

He has the frame to play at 290-300 easily.
That was not good weight because as he stated in his own words he wasn’t committed. He was down at what 260 for AA game.

I would bet A LOT of money those numbers aren’t close to true

Okay. That doesn't change anything. He has the frame to play at 280-300. He is 260 but he hasn't set foot in a college weight room yet. He has a huge frame. Just because he cut bad weight doesn't mean he'll stay at that weight.

I'd say he's Tyson Ford big. Keep in mind, Ford measured at 269 prior to his freshman season.

Less than a year later, he's 290+.

Vernon is arguably bigger than Ford in terms of frame. Just because Vernon trimmed off 20 pounds doesn't mean he's going to stay that way. Cut the bad weight, get in the weight room and bulk up with clean muscle. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Vernon measures 270+ when fall camp starts.

I don't think the staff even thinks twice about having him start out at 3T. That's been pretty much the universal consensus regarding where Vernon projects from the ND beat, especially ISD. If there's anybody I trust with DL projections, it's Jamie Uyeyama.

The curious case of Sean Sevillano, for me, is that this is exactly the type of prospect we were told we had too much of on the roster before Spring Ball. He reminds me a lot of Jacob Lacey (who was our most productive DT before the transfer). Wider than he is long. Quick off the ball. Plays with great balance and leverage. Needs some body work. Cool. Excited about that.

But, Lacey got benched and transferred after his breakout performance against Cal. Largely because it was said then and reiterated, prior to Spring Camp, that ND was too "small" in the middle. And how we needed to get bigger and longer.

Now, I never really subscribe to all that. In fact, I took the opposite side of it, mostly. I always assumed the recruited size would development, which it seemingly has. But, that was the narrative. Now the narrative is, this guy is it. He's one of the coveted DT's. Great. I like the game but he's the exact type of prospect everyone was complaining we have too much of, a few short months ago.

I am as pleased, excited, (insert what ever adjective you want to use for this possible commitment) as I would've been 2 years ago. Just funny that we were told it wasn't good enough, a few short months ago.
I actually do. Lacey was a 280lb college senior whose best position was 3 tech. He could never maintain the weight and health needed. And he wasn't Howard Cross quick/ strong/durable...

Sevillano is 300lb+ heading into his senior year. I've seen some reports that have him at 320....

My guess is the staff sees the body type and has a design to run the 3-3-5 as part of their packages. We've acquired the necessary big end and backer talent to make that defense run. Just need some big nose guards to clog the middle... That's Sevillano and Dixon, imo.

I normally would too, but they were reported by his coach, who notes that the program produced 50-60 college athletes in the last five years, but Sean is the strongest. The school is a tiny football factory.

Strength doe snot equal football talent, but I don't think a head coach would just spit that out on the record if it weren't true.

He just finished his junior year of high school?

That's some serious shit for an interior defensive lineman. I don't care how many stars they put next to his name on the internet, that's doing work in the weightroom and then some. Man child stuff right there.

Then you watch his HUDL highlights and the quickness, feet, pursuit all stand out knowing what he potentially has with strength (even if the numbers are close to what is reported).

I'm paying a lot more attention now because of this.

If his work ethic and motor elevate to 100%, this dude will end up being an absolute beast.

You sometimes see someone that strong that young legs only or upper body only, to be that strong so young fully body is incredible rare.

I just don’t see it. But hope it’s true.
