ND has to offer him today while he is at their camp and hope he's a devout Catholic and that his Dad went to South Bend St. Joe's.

Watch the first 4 passes of his highlight and it could be Drew Pyne... until he uncorks a 70 yard rushing TD.

His footwork in passes 2&3 are college level, his vision and accuracy in passes 1&4 are too.

He is the real deal. If he hasn’t “plateaued” he’s guaranteed to be a star.

I didn’t know he had decommitted from Michigan LAX but it isn’t surprising considering the fact that he is being courted by just about everyone coast to coast for football. There are a half dozen or so D1 lacrosse commits every year that drop to play football... ND loses at least one player almost every class.

Grew up in Chicago and went to ND (games?) as a kid.

Claims to have always had an interest and love for ND

Still technically committed to Michigan though that was to the prior coach.

If he stays in SoCal, I'll bet Chip can show him why he's the next Marcus Mariota instead of the next Butt Fumble at SC. Of those two, I'd go to UCLA in a heartbeat if I were him.

I wonder if he’ll have reservations about UCLA given he was tight with Mora’s kid.

I think our best hope might be if he wants to play both LAX and football... hard to do for a QB relative to a skill position player, but ND has probably the best combination of academics + lacrosse + football in the countart... and PAC12 schools don’t have lacrosse, period.

The Bishop’s School sophomore quarterback Tyler Buchner was one of several visitors checking out Notre Dame over the weekend.

Buchner is one of the elite quarterbacks in the 2021 class. He’s rated the No. 49 player in the country by 247Sports and was very impressive at multiple camps over the off-season. Unfortunately, Buchner went down with a knee injury, tearing his ACL on the first drive of the first game of his season.

The recovery is going well and Buchner was able to check out Notre Dame over the weekend. The signal caller camped in South Bend over the summer and picked up an offer from the Irish.

“The game atmosphere was my favorite part of the visit,” Buchner said. “It seemed like every student on campus was there. I loved how all the students stayed until the very end of the game and how the players all came out and sang the alma mater.

“The team looked great and I really like the offense a lot. Ian Book was impressive, he makes plays and I enjoyed watching him go to work.”

Buchner did the campus tour over the summer but still spent part of the day Saturday checking things out again.

“I’ve already seen most of the school but I still spent all day Saturday walking around and getting the tour,” Buchner said. “I really like it there and I was also able to spend some time with coach (Bill) Rees after the game as well and that was good. I have high interest in Notre Dame for sure and they’ll be high on my list during my recruitment.

“I’ve been to a lot of college games but this was one of my first ones as a recruit. I saw UCLA last year and I’m hoping to get to USC in a couple of weeks. I also want to check out a game in the SEC later in the year if I can. We have a game in Florida so while I’m out there, it would be fun to catch a game at Alabama or Georgia.”

Along with being a highly touted quarterback, Buchner has been a nationally rated lacrosse player since middle school. He said his knee is feeling great and he should be back in action by the summer.

I know a lot of this board wants us to just offer McCarthy and be done with it, but I really feel like Buchner might be special and is worth the wait. Every time I put his film on I find something else I like. The only part I don't love is that maybe he doesn't have as strong an arm as McCarthy, but then I remember that it is only his freshman film and is already good enough for the college game.

Is Notre Dame closing in on another quarterback commitment? It may be early for that, but it doesn’t mean the Irish can’t move into the driver’s seat for a top target.

Notre Dame has targeted him as priority No. 1 for a long time and is hoping to close the deal on that front soon.

I feel like Loy is saying that we shouldn't be expecting him to commit soon, but that he might commit soon. I really hope he does because he is absolutely my favorite for the class. He just looks like a difference making, national championship caliber QB that is also efficient enough to make the offense look boring with how easy it is.

While my gut also says Buchner, he hasn't shown the production because of injury and he'll never show the same tested production vs quality comp like McCarthy already has.

There's only one solution. Take em both. I called for 2 QB's from the '21 class over a year ago, I just thought one would be named RP3.

Big weekend for the 2 most important ND recruits in HS. Buchner's in South Bend while JJ McCarthy's in Columbus. This is the recruiting version of a US / Soviet submarine confrontation and I'll be using my computer like sonar to track every ping.

What sucks is, if/when ND lands Buchner, I'll believe McCarthy was the right play until Buchner proves otherwise and short of an absolute domination of the Elite 11 next year, that won't happen until Buchner clearly out plays McCarthy in college post 5*Phil. I think Buchner has the tools to do so but McCarthy's film last year is what you want your college All American QB's film to look like as a soph in HS.

For the record: I did ask Santa for both.
