Bama @ ND is almost inevitable. If there was ever a year for it to happen, let it be this one. Let's exorcize some demons.
I don't know if anybody here listens to Bill King but he is THE MAN when it comes to college football. He has been preaching this is the year ND is willing and able to match up with the big boys and that ND's physicality will be a problem for pretty much anyone they face.

Just imagine if we didn't lose Morrison, Traore, Botelho, KVA(??)...

ND can beat anybody.

I agree with not wanting to play Bama. They are the team that even on their off day, could still beat us on our off day given their talent. Here's the options of what we need to root for to not play them, in my opinion:

1. Clemson beats SMU close and committee keeps SMU in
2. Georgia beats Texas and Penn St. beats Oregon, pushing us down to the 7 seed (to likely play Indiana)
3. Penn St. gets destroyed by Oregon and they punish them by moving us ahead to the 5 seed
4. Arizona State passes Bama in the rankings with a win in the Big 12 championship and gets the 11 seed
I think Clemson beats SMU by at least 8
Tex beats UGa in a close game
Penn St loses by more than 10

We should still get the 5 seed

The committee is the dumbest part of CFB and that's saying something.

Just use the old BCS formula. Or, create a 2.0 version. But stop using a bunch of people who make the rules up as they go.
The first several iterations of the committee were actually pretty good - they weren't afraid to change their rankings significantly week to week as new data came in and they were pretty consistent with what they valued - resume (SOS, SOR, who you beat) followed by "eye test" (they never used those words but used metrics like offensive and defensive efficiency and game control).

Over the last 3 or 4 years, the committee's standards have declined to the point where their rankings are more like how AP voters rank teams - "Well, I had team A ranked ahead of team B last week and both teams won so I won't change how each is ranked this week." That's a very poor way to rank teams. The committee is supposed to start from scratch each week. The earlier versions of the committee did that. The most recent versions don't even though they claim they do. There is rarely any shakeup in the rankings unless a ranked team loses.

And as you said, they make rules up as they go. Their justification for some of their rankings is different from one team to the next and from one week to the next. That's bullshit.

Conspiracy theorist (ESPN exec) in me would then think the rankings would end up like this:

1 Oregon
2 Texas
3 Boise
4 Clemson/ASU
5 ND
6 PSU
7 Georgia
8 OSU
9 Tennessee
10 Indiana
11 Clemson/ASU
12 Bama

They are salivating at the prospect of a Bama/ND opening Friday night matchup.

ESPNs projection has a much tougher route for 6th than 7th.
6th: Bama then Orgeon
7th: Indiana then SMU or Texas.

I genuinely view it as a foregone conclusion that ND and Bama will be playing on Friday night.

Is there a place to wager on that?

I'm sure someone here would be willing to gamble with you on that. I'd be on your side of that bet as well.

I swear that last touchdown fucked us. 21 point win looked a lot better. Or maybe it didn’t matter at all.

I don't think it did. We beat USC straight up by 14 with giving up a garbage time touchdown. Pedo St had to use gadget plays and bullshit to eke out a 3 point win in OT. Committee is choosing to see what they want. Hopefully Oregon lays the smack down and we move up

Which game does better TV ratings? Notre Dame vs. Bama? Or Penn State vs. Bama? Barring an upset that's the main question here.

Bama @ ND is almost inevitable. If there was ever a year for it to happen, let it be this one. Let's exorcise some demons.

This is where I’m at.

Playing Alabama in December outdoors in Northern Indiana is different than playing them in a dome in Dallas or Miami in January.

This Bama team is quite capable to make a run and is better than people currently believe, but the bigger the risk, the sweeter the reward.

Bring it on. This is the kind of game you want as an ND fan that doesn’t have BK as coach. Our team will be fired the eff up, and wouldn’t be shocked if they pull the shirtless warmups like against FSU.

(By the way, and this isn’t because I’m on the Bod Squad, but I have a buddy that doesn’t believe they did that, and haven’t been able to find the picture to prove it happened)

Ratings will always favor ND. Tune in to watch them win or tune in to watch them lose.

There's no pictures in this article, but this describes what they did.

Notre Dame gives Florida State the cold shoulder with resurgent running game

If it’s a night game that won’t feel as good as it sounds. Add some wind, our kicking game sucks and our passing game is second fiddle anyways.

Milroe hasn't exactly been Mr. Accuracy lately.

Their speed is what scares me, and the cold rain and snow would negate that in a heartbeat.

(And from what I'm seeing, the day games are TBS and the night games are on CBS? ND and Bama would have to play the night game)

COLD RAIN AND SNOW

This is kind of where I'm at. I don't think we can actually win 4 games in a row without 1) a better passing attack with better WRs 2) BenMo not getting hurt. So I care less about our "draw" and am more like "fuck it, if Bama wants to come to ND in December that sounds like a hell of an opportunity to make a statement."

High of 36 and low 29 on Tuesday the 17th. The trend that week is temps dropping from a high of 43 Sunday, 40 on Monday and 36 Tuesday. Hopefully trend continues through Friday or Saturday and we get a lovely 10 degree kickoff with a steady northern wind.

One thing that I would feel somewhat optimistic about is that Bama had so much trouble with Oklahoma and Jackson Arnold was their leading rusher, and both him and their leading RB had over 5 yards per carry and over 100 yards. Arnold only threw 11 times for 68 yards. Where have we heard those stats before?? Now, granted, Oklahoma's defense played lights out and turned them over 3 times, but we might be able to look at that gameplan and get some clues on how to beat them.

Due to the fact that Oregon plays Penn State this weekend does it not assure ND the #3 ranking and the 5 seed in the playoff?

Provided Oregon wins, yes... if they lose we likely stay at 6. If they lose and Texas loses we likely move to 7 but I don't see is dropping past 7

If Oregon loses, they would likely drop to the #5 seed as they'd have better wins than ND and just one loss. If Oregon wins (especially wins big) ND should almost certainly move up to the #5 seed.

Unless Texas loses. I think they'll take 5.
