One interesting aspect of this game is, it is USC's last out of conference game.

In the whole scheme of things winning the National Championship is primary, but can't be counted on having better odds like winning the Pac-12.

I wonder if SC will push some of the questionable guys back from injury maybe a little prematurely, or give them an extra week rest to come back and finish out the Pac-12 run stronger.

Tough decision to make as HC

I took ND @ -3.5. I don't love it. I do have some nice straight up plays because you know... Subway SC fans all went to community college. I didn't play the O/U at 60, now it's at 66. Not touching it.

ND's 5-1 ATS... SC is 1-6

As far as a score, lets go 34 - 28 good guys.

If they come out in green jerseys which they 100% should...

51-0

So looks like 20% expect ND loss, 35% expect tight ND win, 35% expect comfortable ND win, and 10% expect ND blowout.

I feel like the physicality the Irish are playing with this year, is just different and will lead to a different result. I like that the Georgia game already happened, shouldn't be wowed by the SC talent. Pound the rock, play good D, make a couple of big plays. Tight throughout, ND scores a breakaway touchdown late while trying to run clock to win 31-21

I think a lot of ND fans assume Darnold is a turnover machine and will build on that vs the Irish. He has thrown 9 picks but he's also led some game-winning drives that we haven't seen the Irish pull off in awhile. The kid can be reckless at times but then he makes an impossiple looking pass loos easy. Those jump passes were impressive.

The kid is a gamer and seems to thrive in the spotlight. Remember Carson Palmer vs ND in 2002? If the Irish aren't careful, Darnold could catapult back into the Heisman conversation with a big, prime-time performance on National TV.

Very interesting points. HC has to be weighing riskier NC dreams to conservative conference championship.

It's Notre Dame. If they can play they will play. BTW looks like a beautiful night for football on Saturday. Great weather forecast.

I am sure Wimbush could have played against UNC. BK pretty much said that in his presser yesterday.

I know Notre Dame is a huge game, but is it big enough to risk the PAC 12 for? Probably but not 100% convinced.

Saw Brandon Wimbush in an interview today and he said no way he could have played against UNC. Said in pregame warmups his foot was too sore for him to do the things he needed to do to help the team win.

Not to be to picky, but what’s the alternative...........yup I was benched.

But if he was hurt he was hurt.

The usc coach will have to make that exact decision.

He wasn't benched. That's absurd. If he could have played he would have played. And I watched Kelly's press conference and he never said Wimbush could have played against UNC. All he said about Wimbush was he'll be ready to play this week. The two weeks off have allowed him to heal his foot.

Food for thought, Darnold has had a turnover in every game this season, and is pretty close to being responsible for 2 TO's/game. Not sure what his fumble count is up to now, but he's at 9 INT's and around 3 lost fumbles. Utah was the first game that he didn't throw an INT, this season.

So up to this point in the season, it's a TO prone QB, going against an opportunistic defense.

To follow up on this. Loy has Darnold down for 7 fumbles on the season and 16 total TO’s. I’m not sure those were all lost fumbles, but the point is basically the same.

I'm betting on Elko coming up with a few surprises. Some looks that he hasn't shown this year.

They are really hurting along the defensive line. I think that will be the difference in the game if we stick to the run and convert on a few play-action passes...35-24 Irish victory

I've got ND coming up short in this game. When USC is on, they're great. Their main issue has been inconsistency.

If we get a down USC, we could blow them out but does anyone think they're going to be "down" in a rivalry game? Look what they did to Stanford earlier this year.

When you look at advanced stats, ND and USC have equivocal production on offense but ND has the more impressive defense by a solid margin. USC's defense checks in at #31... decent, but not great. So if I'm operating under the assumption that ND is going to struggle to stop USC, that means ND would need to have a big day on offense to win... Notre Dame has played two very good defenses so far...

Georgia - #10 - horrible game plan, tried to throw it all over the field, 19 points
MSU - #9 - much better game plan, committed to the run, more effective passing from Wimbush, lit them up for 38 points with conservative play/backups in 4th Q

If we do what we did to MSU I could see ND winning something like 41-34... pound the ball on the ground, make enough plays in the passing game to score about 20 points a half. But I think it's more realistic that we lose something like 27-34. The reason I think we struggle to stop USC is that our defensive scheme puts a lot of burden on the CBs to win their individual matchups and USC is uniquely talented to win more of those matchups than they lose. We saw what that guy Gardener did for freaking Miami of Ohio... it's hard not to see USC WRs doing something similar winning contested balls. Conversely, our WRs are not likely to be able to get separation which means USC can load up against the run without fear.

Besides ND winning with offense, the only way I see them getting the job done would be for the DL to have a huge game and create a lot of negative plays forcing USC to be more one-dimensional.

Yikes.
