Spread is either ND -7 or ND -7.5 on various sites. We will go with ND -7.5 here.

Votes are public.

I hope Kelly keeps his foot on the gas pedal. Dantonio would do the same if he could.

34-24 Good guys win.

MSU lost as much as we did correct?? How does their front seven on defense look?? I honestly know nothing about them this year other than the expected Mark D. blueprint....

MSU had an extra week to prepare for this game. I don't like how our defense matches up with their running game and play action. We win if we are +2 in turnover margin but I don't see that happening.

I think MSU will lead most of the game and we will fall short after an inspired second half comeback.

They have Malik McDowell and Ed David I think. Everyone else is very unproven I thought.

This.

The whole starting 22 has suffered talent drain. Much like Stanford.

If the defense takes a step or two back you'd have to like us to at least out score them... correct? New QB too, among others I'm assuming...

(didn't really follow MSU last year as I did in year's past).

This was my thought as well. We are a good offensive team with a very good QB leading us who knows how to get it done in crunch time (provided he isn't handcuffed with poor play calling). MSU has rarely had an offense at the level of this years ND team, and has been more of a defensive team. If their D is down some from recent years then unless we lay a total egg in execution I don't see how we lose. Kelly has had Dantonio's number most years as well.

I'm sure they'll play physical, but I just don't think they have enough offense to make it all that close. I want to see Kizer pad stats in this game.

MSU in general is a strong enough program to get up and beat anyone on their best day(s)...

with that said if the D is taking a step back and the O is the same old minus key players... then I feel confident enough here... much more than I was prior to the UT game anyway.

MSU struggled badly with a bad team in week 1 last season too. I wouldn't base too much off that game.

Edit: They actually struggled with most of the teams on their schedule and still made the playoffs.

I was just really surprised at how much they struggled with winning the trenches. There were times that Furman was overpowering the MSU lines. Typically, even if MSU struggles in executing plays, they are still very physical. That wasn't the case against Furman.

ND 38, Sparty 20.

DeShone accounts for all 5 TD's (4 passing, 1 rushing), and Yoon adds a field goal in the 4th to make it 38-13. Sparty ads a garbage-time TD to make it seem respectable at 38-20. (Three of DeShone's passing scores are all on the way to a 21-10 halftime lead. He stretches the lead with another in the 3rd, and then demoralizes Sparty with a TD on a power run up the gut in the 4th.)

BK owns Dantonio. He's completely figured out how to break that defense. The only thing that kept '11 and '13 from being comfortable wins was Tommy Rees' (bless the Reesus) physical limitations. Kizer will not only be able to test that man coverage, but he will break it, much like he did to Pitt last year.

The true difference will be the fact that our defense matches up with a traditional offense much better than it does literally every other college offense. We'll be able to stop the run, because we won't be messing around with that junk 3-3-5. We'll get beat by play-action early, which results in a Sparty score, but the defense will be in-tune enough after that to limit Sparty as our offense outpaces them.

This seems good with me. Would be good to see the defense get some confidence.

This does seem to be the case, unless you're playing a more conventional offense with AA talent like mccaffrey or the physical studs SC tends to put out there. Also, before someone jumps on it, I understand all three teams involved in this run different systems but all three are considered 'conventional' compared the up tempo spread, or old school option styles....

side note:

I think the Texas game broke me.
It definitely broke me. I woke up Saturday with a 330 ND football game on and decided I was going to do other stuff instead. If I made it home in time then I'd watch, if not I'd DVR it. And there is almost nothing I hate more than watching sports on DVR. I didn't get caught up till after half and the worst part was I recorded it on a non HD channel. On a 60" TV......

I've been broken for years... I still think ND is rightly favored here...

I said that about the 1991 orange bowl......its gets better with time, but not much better.

Yeah my first major heart break was this one... remember it vividly...

My major 'broken' moments are still

BC 93
SC 05
Um whenever the year was where Gary Grey BS happened...

Clemson, FSU and UT were all bad too but I think I'm finally getting to the where lesson is learned... ND will tear your heart out, it's expected now in big games.

Surprised to see the spread so high.

I think the ND offense operates well and puts up a respectable 27-35 points.

I hope the defense doesn't kill us. I expect the BVG unit to give up a deep ball or two and allow 24 points.

Michigan 2011 almost broke me but I didn't have high expectations for that team. Clemson almost broke me but I expected to lose that game.

This was the first game where I had both high expectations and expected to win.

This is the game/year that gave me perspective. Young kids at home occupying a lot of my time and the best team (IMO) didn't get a chance to play for the natti. From then on it's just enjoy the team and each game and if we end up in no.1 at the end of the year, great...
