Was the top underclassman performer at the Elite 11 this weekend.Listed ND, Stanford and Michigan State as three offers he would really like to have. Dad was a walk on at ND.

James Morgan, Green Bay (Wisc.) Ashwaubenon- Just as he did at the FBU Arizona Camp in March, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound Morgan displayed excellent arm strength and accuracy during this event. Morgan recently was ranked as the No. 9 pro-style quarterback prospect in the 2015 class by 247Sports and he could end up being even higher. Morgan has yet to pick up his first offer, but we are certain that will change moving through the summer as he gets more exposure. Should Notre Dame become involved, the Irish could be tough to beat. His father played there and he had on a Fighting Irish hat at the camp.

Columbus Elite 11 features a deep, talented group

Morgan is probably a lot further along coming from a football family. It seems like he's already been around to more camps and getting more work done on his throwing motion. A real good comparison of them won't be able to be done until the end of the next season and see what the boys worked on in the off-season. Right now the edge definitely goes to Morgan.

Any chance Morgan is a prodigy in the class room and could graduate a full year early?

Take 'em both. Call it a day.

It's going to be interesting to see how much we're willing to play with fire. If we just take 1 QB in this class (which would be ideal), then you run the risk of only having two scholarship QBs for the 2014 season (Zaire + whoever the 2014 guy is... seems mighty dangerous).

But ideally we could get a stop-gap transfer from somewhere (yay JUCOs! not...) or get Golson back or retain Hendrix for a 5th year. If that happens, which we really have no way of knowing until the end of the season, then we should take 1 2014 guy and 2 better 2015 prospects.

But it seems right now we might be forced to invert and get two 2014 guys... which just sucks.

Thankfully we will at least know if Golson will be back by the end of December/ beginning of January so that would at least give us a month until NSD to try and pull in another QB for the '14 cycle if needed. I know that is a lot to ask for in recruiting, especially since all the QBs usually commit early, but as you mentioned, maybe a transfer or fifth year to bridge the gap to the '15 class.

This is why I think Zaire plays (at least) some. We will be taking a bunch of QBs this class and next ,and we need to spread them out somehow. We can't afford to constantly have log jams in the QB department because A) they transfer out B) they sit on the bench, never really play, and take up roster space. Of course, the transferring out is fine if we have a proper amount of talent underneath them, but again, like you've said countless times, we are at a disadvantage by not taking JUCO players because when a guy transfers out and his backup does as well, we are pretty ****ed.

Another thing to consider might be Hendrix's resume in terms of medical school admission. I have no idea where he sits, but even an ND premed doesn't guarantee you a seat at the table. Does he aspire to go MD or will he be ok with a DO program? How is his MCAT? He might need a post-bach year to strengthen his med school resume. I'm not sure what his plans are, but if it were me and I was looking at 7+ years of future education I would definitely take a free year from ND to bolster my application and make sure I got into where I wanted to go. I have no info, for all I know he might be a shoe-in with a 4.0 and a 41 on the MCAT.

What I do know is it would stink to take two from the watered down '14 talent pool for numbers sake, then have Golson AND Hendrix come back and shoot ourselves in the foot in '15.

I don't know anything about any cats from M so I deleted that part out.

I really think the staff should just take one this year. Stay with their plan of one a year. If we take two again it just puts us back in the position we were in when we had Tommy, Hendrix, Golson, Zaire, and Kiel. However, that only lasted a couple months, but I just don't want to be in a position again where we have 5 QB's again.

It almost forces one of them to bail, let alone a positional stud you could have had instead. Then the next year, unless he grew up a die hard ND fan, you are almost screwed trying to get another stud to sign after taking 2.

I guess, I would just take one this year and one next year. It will even itself back out again.

Taking two this year helps with depth but doesn't mean our skill level at the position gets any better which is the real point right?

I think I am coming to the same conclusion. My knee jerk reaction when we lost EG was we need a QB NOW, offer Kizer, take Dawkins, push for Allen! The more I think about it the more I feel you are right though.

The opposing argument would be that no matter how many QBs we have the cream will rise to the top. Unfortunately we do not have the luxury to consistently miss with players washing out. If we were allowed to sign more than 85 like SOME teams, this would not be an issue.

He can come too. Haven't watched his film but I feel confident saying Blake is our best option.

They are both very good. I would say that Barnett is probably more of a complete package for the fact that he is very dangerous with his legs. I really like the way Morgan throws the football, personally. That said, for our offense, I would say that Barnett is definitely plan A.
I think it has been established that ND might have the leg up over the field with Morgan. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I believe Wiltfong also said Morgan is a nice QB but he won't be playing in South Bend.
