Will visit this summer. Said this in reference to ND:
Football is going to end someday, and I’m going to school for a reason. Not just to play football, but for a degree I could use later in life.”

High interest in OSU, PSU (visited both) and Stanford as well.

I wonder if recent reports of football players filing for bankruptcy within a few years of retiring from football is beginning to weigh on some of these recruits. Maybe they are finally seeing that you still need a valuable degree regardless if you make it to the NFL or not.

I hope so, but I highly doubt that high school kids follow this very closely. Plus there's the fact that they're all treated like they will walk on water and are the next Percy Harvin in many cases. (looking at you Meyer).

Very few can live on assets these days. The ability to generate income streams is precious. A million bucks earning 3% doesn't buy much bling with the price of gold. Whoops back to football...

A stud from Ohio not even considering O$U, definitely a little surprise as well as fishy. I wish I knew the juicy details. :p

From his comments to 247 and though he says they are all even, it definitely sounds like Michigan has the edge at this point.

Poking around at Eleven Warriors for some OSU perspective on recruits, and one poster said that they are not just the listed leaders but the three "finalists." Very early obviously, but still good news.

ESPN Insider

College Football Rumors - Rumor Central - NCAA - ESPN

Knows he will enjoy being at any of the his Top 3 (ND,MICH,PSU)

On why he didn't pick OSU:

"I am not a big city guy, I am from the Ohio Valley, and I think that in fact played a role in my decision. I wanted a place that was fairly calm, not heavy population wise and somewhere I feel like my priorities will be a lot easier to focus on."

PSU wants him for TE while the others are looking for LB

Where the Michael Ferns Grow

...apparently in the Ohio Valley, not the Ozarks like the Red Fern.

And only one of those 3 schools has a small student population.

We are likely running 3rd however.

Michigan slanted article but definitely gave some new insights. He has been mentored by Lance Mehl, a former Penn State Linebacker, since he entered high school. Former Ball State QB Nate Davis (Played for Hoke at BSU) grew up in the area and evidently the Ferns family has had some discussions with the Davis family and have had high praise for Hoke. He is interested in pre-med.

U-M, Notre Dame, Penn State have big impact on small-town star | The Detroit News | detroitnews.com

on top of that I think Michigan is well known for their medical field/hospital so him being interested in pre-med could slant in Michigan's favor but again ND could hook him up with Hendrix for his experience at ND in the pre-med.

"As soon as I got into high school science and math stuck out for me," Ferns said. "From a social aspect, I feel like I could make (football and pre-med) work. Every college at this level is going to have a great education. I'm focusing on going to school but also the opportunities I'll have after my four years and what it takes to finish up pre-med."

On a visit to Penn State, Ferns learned about former players who studied pre-medicine during their careers. Former linebacker Chris Colasanti, who graduated following the 2010 season, was a pre-med student while starting for the Nittany Lions as a senior.

...cough cough Notre Dame cough Hendrix cough...
