Carrington lands big offer
Devon Carrington (Chandler, Ariz./ Hamilton) is easily among the most talented safeties in the West region this year. The defensive back picked up his fourth offer, all from the Pac 10, on Monday and could be close on a few more.
Stanford, Arizona and Arizona State were the first to offer Carrington and another school that has recruited the Grand Canyon State well the last few years threw their hat in to the ring Monday.
"I just got offered by Cal," and excited Carrington said. "Coach Simmons is the one recruiting me and I'm definitely interested in Cal. I know some of the guys on the team already like Marc Anthony, who lives down the street from me and I played with Covaughn Deboskie.
"My goal is to commit by the end of the summer so I'm going to take some unofficial visits and Cal is definitely a place I'm going to check out. I also want to visit Stanford and I may check out the Arizona schools too. I talk to Coach Kish at UA a lot and I'm close with the ASU coaches as well."
Carrington could hear as soon as Tuesday about another potential scholarship offer.
"I'm supposed to talk with Coach Weis at Notre Dame Tuesday," Carrington said. "I talked with Coach Hart Monday and they sound very interested so after track practice, I'm going to give Coach Weis a call and see what he has to say.
"If they offer, that would be huge and I'll definitely take an unofficial visit out there in the summer as well. Once school starts, I just want to focus on football and my schoolwork so that's why I'm looking to commit early. I'm not going to rush it or anything and if I don't know, I'll push it back but hopefully I can get this done early."
Carrington starting to get noticed nationally

One day after picking up a scholarship offer from Cal, Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) defensive back Devon Carrington landed his first offer from outside the Pac-10.
"I was offered by Notre Dame," Carrington said on Tuesday. "I called up Coach (Charlie) Weis and talked to him for a few minutes and then he told me I fit a specific need they're looking for and he was offering me a scholarship.
"I was pretty excited and plan to check them out in the spring. Coach Weis told me he's going to e-mail me a spring practice schedule and I'm looking forward to seeing the place. Everyone knows about Notre Dame's great tradition and history and they're very high on my list right now."
Carrington also has offers from Cal, Arizona, Arizona State and Stanford.
"I'm wide open right now and don't have a leader," Carrington said. "I am leaning to getting out of Arizona just to experience something new but I'm not closing the doors to the Arizona schools just yet.
"I'm going to take a bunch of unofficial visits and then hopefully be ready to make my decision before summer is over."
Chandler is perhaps the top school in Arizona in terms of producing D-1 talent. I believe they provided Devon Kennard last year if memory serves correct. Devon looks solid and I am always for stealing recruits that might possibly go to USC if offered.
"I'm still trying to figure out my schedule, but I know May 26 and 27, I'm going to check out Cal and Stanford," Carrington said. "I've already been to Arizona and Arizona State since they're local and I plan to visit Notre Dame and Northwestern for sure, but I haven't set those dates just yet."
hes 176 lbs. thats my only concern.
Landing this kid would grant access to a very good talent-producing school and hopefully open the floodgates of what appears to be a state that is becoming filled with more and more D-1 talent.
BGIF;287775Open the floodgates? Polian's already overtopped the levees!
Clausen, Crist, Dever, Fauria, McDonald, Wood, Evans on the roster (7 out of 83)
Chris Martin committed
Yo BGIF, Carrington is from AZ; you're talking about CA guys. Polian is definitely putting in work in CA, and putting a nice dent into USC's and UCLA's recruiting classes, but what Golden is saying is that it would be nice to get that same type of recruiting pipeline in AZ...
Mea culpa! Reading is fundamental.
Thanks for correcting my error.
Arizona is a place that we don't seem to do well at all. I can't think of anyone on the current roster from AZ. John Kadous is the only Arizona player that comes to mind. Has it been that long? IRC, Kadous's HS coach wasn't very complimentary over the Kadous situation.
ND's unsuccessfully chased some prime talent in Craig Roh, Devon Kennard, and Corey Adams last year and Gerrell Robinson the year before. Everson Griffin also comes to mind.
Bishop Gorman frequently seems to have some players but rarely any interest in ND. Does anyone know if Bishop Gorman is a Catholic school?
I think Bishop Gorman is in Vegas....and yes it is Catholic.
The big Catholic school here in Phoenix is Brophy
Bringing his dad along, who is very excited to see ND. Haven't set the date yet though...
