Maryland has become Penn State territory lately, but from the looks of it, he doesn't have them on his list.

If Clelland's 40 time of 4.9 is correct, this guy has some great speed for his size. The only other ND OL prospect under 5.0 is Matt Patchan who is listed on Rivals as running an amazing 4.7 40 for an OL. Patchan's 4.7 is probably from when he only weighed 247, he claims to be close to 265 now, but still ran a 4.81 at the San Antonio combine last month. Clelland and Patchan have to be two of the fastest OL recruits in the country, but Patchan is a real long shot for ND. Clelland seems like more of a possibility and ND gets in early with an offer. Clelland's only other offer at this time is Maryland.

Clelland might be fast, but only 13 bench reps. That isn't very impressive.

I'm from MD...let me say that McDonogh isn't really a football school.

Some background on the mystery man. Clelland is also a High School heavyweight wrestler and baseball player which may somewhat explain the strength issue, as he tries to maintain his quickness for those 2 sports. He is supposed to be a skinny 265, and apparently will be able to carry 300 lbs. with no problem. CW & company must have seen the same thing in the kid, that he will have no problem putting on weight and adding strength, otherwise, I am sure he would not have received an OL offer.

His older brother was an OL at Northwestern from 1997-2001, and is an assistant coach at Lane's High School. They are supposed to travel together to visit ND & Michigan the end of this month. Currently, his only other offer is from Maryland, but he is supposedly getting recruited by USC and Nebraska in addition to Michigan and a bunch of ACC schools. However, with there being so little info available on this recruit, the list of schools that they say are recruiting him may be getting inflated in order to increase his stock. Anyway, FWIW, it appears that ND has a really good shot at him.

Clelland will be visiting ND this weekend just in time for some of the Spring Practice sessions. He currently lists ND as his top choice, but is nowhere near making a final decision.

Clelland visited ND & Michigan this weekend. There was a free Irish Eyes story about Clelland's visit to South Bend, but they took it down about 5 minutes after it was posted. Clelland apparently did the reverse trip of Trevor Robinson as he went to Michigan on Friday, and Notre Dame on Saturday. Clelland still sounds promising for ND, although he did pick up an offer from Michigan on Friday, and according to the GBW rag, he now lists ND & Michigan as his Top 2. His only other offers are from Maryland and Nebraska.

He should just commit to us now and get it over with, I guess it's hard for me to understand people weighing their options and not bowing down to the greatness of Notre Dame.

In a recent "stunning" development Lane picked up an offer from Florida as well as Florida St.

Lane's current top three consists of Michigan, Notre Dame, and Florida.

I think Fla is going to really offer everyone in Rivals, Scouts, and ESPNs top 150

Don't they have 100 offers out now? i heard it was at like 95 the other day, and they can only take like 17-18....Meyer is just a disgusting pillow biter.

What's the problem with offering a lot of kids? Offering a select few didn't work out too well for us last year.

Because if a lot of them at the same posistion all want to commit you have to tell them that their offer doesn't really count because you are waiting on someone you think is better.

... and then you'd be no better than Urban Meyer.

Guys--
We do have a bunch of offers out there. Not as many as Florida, but many more than spots available in the recruiting class. The difference will be that these are truly offers. The first guys to accept will be welcomed in. I seriously doubt Weis will slow-play anybody if they want to commit. That said, if recruits aren't fast enough, they'll be left out in the cold this year. We're already full at QB and TE, and filling up fast at LB. Luckily for Mr. Clelland (getting back to this thread), there is room at OL. Hopefully he comes aboard.

I think the two I hold out most hope for at this juncture are Clelland and Page. Michigan jumped in front with Clelland pretty early, but there is still time, and we've got a good shot at making up ground there. Page sounds like he likes the whole ND package of athletics and academics. Those are the two I'd say that ND has their best chance at - Rutgers looks like they've got an inside track with Forst.

From his video, he is impressive. While Patchan is a bit faster and has just tremendous footwork, this guy gets lower and just explodes into his tackles. He is tops on my list.

Re. his weight, see the following:

... and more generally, for more on Clelland, read through all of IUB's posts in this thread.
