From Scout:

A standout defensive end as a junior, Wells will get the chance to show off his speed even more as a senior playing outside linebacker in a 3-4. Relatively new to the game of football, Wells has untapped potential.

Wells has narrowed his list to Florida, Ohio State, Florida State, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia Tech. All of those schools have offered. He remains open, however, to two additional schools that have not.

"Before it got too crazy I wanted to go ahead and get it down," Wells said. "I didn't want it to get too out of hand with all of these schools contacting me and me having to go and visit. I just want to get a definite list down while also keeping schools like Notre Dame and Georgia off to the side, telling them that I would be open to their recruiting if they did offer."

"I always said if I went to a school up north, it would be Ohio State or Notre Dame. They have a great football program and they excel in their conference. I am still doing research on them, but they take care of their student athletes up there."

in the Yahoo article, it says he's 6'5 225 - those numbers kind of remind me of ben martin last year

Wells is planning on attending an ND camp in June, and is hoping to attract an offer from the Irish. Keith was added to Rivals 250 list yesterday and is projected as a OLB in the ND 3-4 Defensive scheme.

This guy has a pretty good nose for the football. Also has pretty good closing speed. It looks to me like he needs to strengthen up to break off blocks a little better. But has a lot of potential.

Wellls comments about ND...

“About four or five weeks ago, my coach sent my film up to them and they started recruiting me after that,” said Wells. “I definitely have interest in Notre Dame. It’s a great all-around school, they have a great football program, so I definitely have interest in them. I’m going to go up to one of their camps in the next three weeks. I’ve spoken with a couple of the coaches, coach Lewis and coach Brown a little. They actually came by my school. They wanted me to come up to one of their camps, so I’m going to go up and compete and see if they offer me a scholarship.”

Looks like he wants to play DE in college opposed to what he plays in HS. “It depends on how Notre Dame utilizes their outside linebackers,” said Wells. “I don’t want to rush the passer every play and I don’t want to be in coverage every play. I’d like to do both. I have the versatility to play either position because of my athleticism, but I know with my body type that I will gain weight. I might get up to 260-270 pounds before it is all over, so I definitely want to play defensive end in college. I think I’ll be more comfortable there opposed to outside linebacker.”

He has offers from everywhere in country basically and still wants to come camp at ND to work for an offer. “I’m still pretty open to being recruited by Notre Dame and Georgia,” explained Wells. “Notre Dame hasn’t been recruiting me that long, so I can’t shut them out at this time. I’m definitely going to work for a Notre Dame offer, so I’m going to go up and compete at their camp."

------They should be, the kid basically said he is going to commit there once he returns with his mom, but in the meantime he'll visit ND and Georgia. Urban must've gave him a car or something.

Even if Wells is as gung-ho about the Gators as Gator Land seems to believe he is, does Wells fit the criteria to be one of Urban's Sacred 18 for 2008. Maybe in January, I don't know about July.

In one of the biggest continuing shams in NCAA recruiting history, Urbie is now up to close to 150 offers with 1 recruit deemed suitable for his holiness's class. Yet, Meyer's blatant manipulation of the system is only mild fodder for the message boards, and is not even mentioned by the Scouts and Rivals of the world, or any of the editors of the individual team sites on either board. I guess they are all afraid of the Cockwad.

Yeah, should be interesting to see what happens when Wells tries to commit.

Wells preps for visits

Fresh off a visit to Florida, Gainesville defensive end Keith Wells is packing his bags in anticipation of one-day camps at Notre Dame and Ohio State this weekend.

Two years ago, Wells was playing basketball in Cornelia for Habersham Central. Following a transfer to Gainesville at the start of his junior season, he is suddenly rated as one of the nation’s top defensive end prospects.

“Keith had played basketball all of his life and I think suddenly his desire has changed,” Gainesville coach Bruce Miller said.

The 6-foot-5, 207-pound Wells, who played both football and basketball at Gainesville last season, is suddenly on everyone’s radar.

Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Ohio State and Tennessee headline his list of offers.

Following additional development, Miller is confident Wells will evolve into a special player on the college level.

“I think they’re getting a project,” he said. “He only started six games for us last year. He looks the part and runs extremely well for his size. I think his best football is ahead of him.”

I think its a little bit of both. The wild card in this one is the fact that he loved his visit to Florida, in a big time way. The question is will Urban allow Wells to verbal when he wants to?

Jeesh, what a load of crap he stirs.

Keith is camping at ND today, and he'll be at O$U tomorrow. Many are anticipating that Wells will get an offer today if he can clear admissions and to this point it doesn't appear that doing so will be a problem.

A ND offer should give the Irish a chance against the Gators who appear to be Well's current favorite.

It turns out Keith was not able to make his trip north so he wasn't able to Camp at ND or visit O$U.

Wells to re-think ND?

Gainesville defensive end Keith Wells appeared a lock to sign with Florida State in February following a commitment announcement at his school last summer.

But the 6-foot-5, 270-pound Wells now appears determined to spend the next four weeks testing the waters around the ACC and SEC.

“Right now, I’d say I will visit Tennessee, Miami and FSU,” Wells said. “And if anyone falls through, I’ve got schools like Clemson, Notre Dame and Alabama.

“I’m still not exactly sure which remaining three visits I’ll take. More than likely it will be FSU. If not this weekend, it’ll be my last visit. I’ll probably go to Tennessee next weekend and Miami on Jan. 25.”

Florida State’s prospects of regaining ground with Wells might be as simple as picking up a telephone.

“They’re not communicating with me a lot,” Wells said. “I guess they’re just wanting to see what I’m going to do. Me and the guy who was recruiting me at FSU just haven’t communicated like we used to.

“I don’t like that. It shows that they’re not concerned, as far as recruiting me and getting me to come there.”

If Wells withdraws his commitment to the Seminoles, he admitted that winding up at Notre Dame might be a long shot.

“Notre Dame still hasn’t offered,” he said. “I guess they want to get me there on an official and evaluate me and my game film.

“But I won’t seriously consider going up there unless they offer me a scholarship.”

Who knows? Maybe Kapron Lewis Moore is stalling a bit too much?
