NFL Free Agency and Trades, 2019

The Chiefs are shopping Justin Houston. Dee Ford is a FA and they are switching from a 3-4 to a 4-3.

Justin Houston is a pretty affordable, elite pass rusher
The Kansas City Chiefs are fielding offers for pass rusher Justin Houston, who could be a great value for some team.

Two teams mentioned are the Colts and the Browns.

Not exactly free agency, but...

QBs - The Broncos traded Case Keenum to Washington.
- Nick Foles to Jacksonville. Where would Bortles and his $21 mill salary go?
- Will Arizona trade Josh Rosen?

The Steelers reportedly were ready to trade Antonio Brown to the Bills, but it fell through when Brown did not want to go to Buffalo. Rumors were that the Raiders, Titans and Washington were very interested. Of the three, Oakland has the most cap space.
Salary Cap Space

Raiders? Browns?

The Raiders also have the most draft capital of any of the teams listed as well after that Mack trade. But I think they would be CRAZY to trade for him. What kind of message is Gruden and the front office trying to send? You trade away a generational talent at DE, only to trade away the capital you obtained for him for an aging, drama-king WR?

They need to protect that draft capital and start things over.

Antonio Brown traded to Oakland for a 3rd and 5th round pick. His contract was reworked and is now the highest paid WR in the NFL. The Raiders could still draft his cousin, Marquise, to replenish their WR corp. Or pairing D.K. Metcalf with him...

Carlos Hyde signs with KC. (What's with the KC-Cleveland connection?) .

Green Bay and SF have expressed interest in trading for Dee Ford. GB's new LB coach, Mike Smith, came from KC where he was Ford's coach. KC reportedly would settle for a second round draft pick.

Justin Houston is rumored to be released by KC, who had no suitors for a trade. Da Bears just hired former KC ILB coach, Mark DeLeone. That would free up $14 million in cap space. A post-June 1 cut of Eric Berry would save KC $9.5 million. Trading Dee Ford would save $15.4 million against the cap. Those are three of the four highest paid Chiefs.

Eric Weddle signs with LA Rams to replace Lamarcus Joyner.

Chicago Cubs Pittsburgh Steelers Notre Dame

The Pittsburgh and Antonio Brown drama got weird. What Antonio Brown was saying in interviews was not helping his trade value; he talked about wanting to "play by his rules", be the highest paid receiver in the NFL. etc.. The relationship in Pittsburgh was beyond repair and keeping him was not in the cards.

The Brown to Buffalo talk that happened in the middle of the night. The rumor is that Buffalo offered their #9 pick. When Buffalo talked to Brown and his agent, that is when the trade fell apart. I can't imagine Buffalo would trade a top 10 pick for a 31 year old WR that wants to be $18-$20 mil per year.

Then, the next day (yesterday), the rumor was that Oakland was offering a 2nd and 4th round pick. I was perfectly okay with that. Turns out, they traded for a 3rd and 5th. I'm still okay with that. Pittsburgh is one of the better drafting teams in the NFL, I think they'll find plenty of good players with their extra picks.

One the surface, yeah it sucks losing Bell and Brown. But I'm really interested to see how the team plays and locker room looks without the two guys that only cared about their paycheck.

AB, in my eyes, is the best receiver in Steelers history and this recent drama doesn't change that. Some of the catches he made still amaze me.
