The only reason I'm posting this is because ND will now have to play against this kid. The 2 toughest teams on the schedule have gotten better as a result of PSU penalties.

Gotta love Diaco.

When asked about the physical characteristics Diaco is looking for — in both linebackers, and defenders in general — he was remarkably candid.

“We really don’t like small players, in general,” Diaco told Irish Illustrated. “We believe that if we have a big defense, we’re going to have a chance to have a good defense. How good? We don’t know. But when we come off the bus, if we’re as big or bigger than our opponent, we believe we’ll have a good chance to have a good defense.”

How big? Well, here’s a quick breakdown of the Irish’s starting front seven’s collective weight against some pretty elite company:

Notre Dame: 1920 pounds
Alabama: 1907 pounds
Michigan State: 1869 pounds
USC: 1800 pounds
Oklahoma: 1792 pounds

That's an incredible stat. Especially since we run the 3-4. Too lazy to look and I'm sure you know, but how many of those other 4 run the 4-3?

Brilliant article.

But I am not sure that your assumption that a four man front is always heavier holds weight. 4-3 ends and outside linebackers can both be smaller and lighter than their 3-4 counterparts. I could see it a wash, or going either way.
