Just some detail on the upcoming prospect visits.

Sinclair’s Take: This Week’s Notre Dame Visitors

Quote:
For weeks, we saw scholarship offers flowing faster than most could keep up with, along with upcoming visit announcements.

Over the last few weeks, Notre Dame slowed the offer distribution while spring break hit. But this week, spring practice returns while that long list of upcoming visits will begin.

Starting on Wednesday, Notre Dame will host several national prospects, starting with a group from Washington before multiple Top 100 sophomores hit South Bend. Two key 2020 recruits will arrive at Notre Dame over Thursday and Friday before a trio of Top 100 prospects makes up our early weekend list.

In this review, I’ll give my quick take on each of this week’s visitors – starting with the 2020 prospects with offers, followed by the top underclassmen visitors, and capped off by the athletes surely hoping for offers when they hit Indiana this week.

2020 prospects

Chris Tyree - Running Back - (March 23-24)

Possibly the most comforting details among Notre Dame’s top-of-the-board prospects is Chris Tyree’s effort in building his connection to staff – having visited Notre Dame on Dec. 15 before booking his second unofficial visit for this week, and official visit for June 21.

Alabama, Oklahoma, Penn State, and others combine for imposing competition for Notre Dame’s No. 1 prospect. But getting a second and third crack at Tyree this off-season will keep the Irish in the discussion, at the very least. Of course, multiple off-season visits are typically a recipe for success.

Cody Simon - Linebacker - (March 23)

After a breakout junior season, keep a close eye on Cody Simon next fall as an upward trajectory has been on display for this versatile linebacker.

I, for one, feel that Simon could potentially grow into the mike linebacker position, proving to play assignment football while shooting gaps with precision and playing fast appears to be the nucleus of his game. Regardless of position fit, this is a sharp football player with a family connection.

I remain confident in my Crystal Ball Prediction for the Irish.

Zak Zinter - Offensive Tackle - (March 22)

One of the closest things to a ‘Notre Dame fit’ on the board, Zak Zinter’s offer list which includes Auburn, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Tennessee along with Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and others tell you a lot about his profile.

While loading up on tackle talent is the main ingredient to Notre Dame’ 2020 O-line priorities, the interior will be addressed too. Athletes with multi-position flexibility (including center) are key and this 6-foot-6, 300-pounder fits that category among the best on the board.

Top 100 sophomores

Emeka Egbuka - Wide Receiver - (March 21)

The quest for premium pass-catchers will flow into the 2021 class, we can be sure. Among the very best sophomore wide receivers in the 2021 class is Emeka Egbuka, a bona fide five-star talent (in my opinion).

An athlete with elite speed with the vertical threat to match, Egbuka can run all the routes and make plays on short-to-intermediate plays with every bit of dynamic ability as he shows on deep balls.

Landon Tengwall - Offensive Tackle - (March 23-24)

Like wide receiver, the offensive tackle position is a priority in 2020 and will likely remain so in 2021. That’s why a weekend visit from Landon Tengwall is exciting for Notre Dame – one of the best overall offensive linemen in his class.

Beaux Collins - Wide Receiver - (March 21)

Another Top 100 wide receiver hitting South Bend on Thursday, Beaux Collins is proving to be one of the best wide receivers in California at one of the best prep programs in the country, St. John Bosco.

On film, I love Collins’ athleticism noted within the fluidity in his route running and in adjustments to the football. At 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, there’s a lot to work with here.

Jaquez Smith - Safety - (March 23-24)

Ordinarily, Top 75 prospects from the Southeast come with the notion that Notre Dame will have a difficult time in luring them to South Bend. But when it comes to top defensive back talent from the Atlanta area, the Notre Dame staff has proven to be capable of winning recruiting battles.

With Notre Dame finding recent success in recruiting a number of athletes from his region, it’ll be interesting to see what comes of the top-end sophomore’s trip to South Bend.

Prospects without offers

Donovan Clark - Cornerback - (March 20)

Athletes listed as 6-foot-3, 190-pounds always get my attention at the cornerback position. In Donovan Clark (2020), the essential tools are in place while added strength, power, and explosiveness would take his game to the next level.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this Washington 2020 prospect who will visit mid-week.

Kasen Kinchen - Cornerback - (March 20-21)

Comparing Clark to his 7-on-7 teammate and friend Kasen Kinchen, the latter is less in the size department and more in the speed and overall athleticism category.

An All-State selection by the Seattle Times, an argument that Kinchen (a 2020 cornerback) is undervalued could be made, racking up seven interceptions, 14 pass breakups, and 56 tackles while scoring 13 receiving touchdowns alongside 1,051 yards on 50 catches.

James Smith - Cornerback - (March 21)

One of multiple 2020 prospects out of St. John Bosco arriving in South Bend this week, cornerback James Smith certainly looks the part on film. From a fundamental standpoint, Smith shows a well-coached toolbox and the natural quickness to compete.

So far, he holds offers from Arizona State, Kentucky, Nevada, Oregon, Penn State, and Washington State.

Kobe Pepe - Defensive End - (March 21)

A 2020 teammate of Smith, some would say Kobe Pepe lacks the height and length to compete at defensive end, 6-foot-1, 270-pounds. But that’s not to say he couldn’t produce along the defensive line – showing the tenacity and talent to shed blocks and disrupt from the interior.

From a quality program which faces the top programs in the country, Pepe could see his stock rise if he continues to produce. So far, he holds offers from Arizona State, Colorado, Dartmouth, Illinois, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Washington State, and others.

Earnest Greene - Offensive Lineman - (March 21)

1COMMENTS

The lone 2022 prospect on our current confirmed visitor list, Earnest Greene appears to be destined for success at a mature 6-foot-3, 301-pounds. Following The Opening Regional in SoCal, 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins wrote the following:

“Greene is a mammoth offensive lineman out of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco who the Braves’ coaches have been raving about for the last year. He definitely looks the part and has a college body right now. He’s a natural athlete and will be among the nation’s top tackle prospects by the time he’s a senior.”

Would have liked to seen offers for Kourt Williams and Earnest Greene. Earnest Greene will be a Top 10 overall player. Looks like one now and he's a freshman.

This is all I could find about their visit (from them). The day before, they were all over Twitter about their Michigan visit.

21 WR Emeka Egbuka seems to be the prospect most reported on for Thursday's visitors. Lots of buzz on his visit.
