I think we got Georgia too early this year. I like next year with the first serious challenge being Clemson at home. We have a bunch of teams Book should dominate leading up to that. Pretty sure we beat Clemson at home and that will knock them out of contention.

We have a good, solid program. Never will be elite but Wisconsin never will either.

Beat Texas, then hit the trail. (or rather, hit the trail, beat Texas, then hit the trail again)

Late bloomers pop up every single year. Would love to see us expand the board at DB after evaluating senior film, and add another body or two.

After that, keep the ball rolling on 2021 recruiting. Everyone knows recruiting is the lifeblood of any program, yada yada, but we have four 10 win seasons in five years to pitch and we should really be able to capitalize on that. We need to.

To the guys who follow Book-talk online:

What do you feel the odds of him pursuing the NFL next year are... and the question isn't, do you think he's good enough to get drafted? A QB like Book can take a shot at making a roster in the League and if he doesn't, he can make up to $500k in the XFL or Canada.

And if you look at the QB's in the CFL, it's easy to see how he could thrive there.

When the 2019 schedule came out, 10-2 would have been considered a good season. The thought was that navigating through Stanford, VATech, VA, USC, Georgia, Michigan with Navy and Duke trap games without losing at least three games would be a success...especially when you consider the level of talent that moved on to the NFL last year. Yet, the season was indifferent. The surprisingly weak schedule contributed to this feeling.

What was really accomplished? We pummeled severely undersized, undermanned opponents, struggled against slightly undersized, undermanned opponents, and were rather uncompetitive against quality opponents.

Offensively, there was no development from the Louisville game to the Stanford game. Our identity is that we exploit glaring mismatches; and if there isn’t any, we struggle. Physicality is missing, and you really can’t blame the O-LIne. They are coached only in one facet: pass protection. No one knows who is calling the plays and not so surprisingly no one wants to claim that responsibility. An offense that you can't really hold anyone accountable except for the guy with OC title.

Defensively, they were entertaining, but far from dominant. They played about five teams that were one dimensional. Those teams had piss poor QBs. When they played a decent offense, they struggled. Clark Lea has been OK. Not going to jump on his bandwagon until I see how his defense plays against more than one quality offense. Hamilton is star! He should be a Freshman All American.

Overall, it was an indifferent year. Nothing has changed. The quote “The enemy of great is not bad, the enemy is good” is apt to describe the current state of the program. We are a good enough program to beat who should beat, but woefully inadequate to compete at any higher level.

If Long is truly gone & BK wants Rees, he should act fast b/c Northwestern just fired their OC. Rees was a GA there & grew up in that area so it would seem like a perfect match.

Book should get an NFL grade. I’d guess the feedback would be return to school. If he acts on that advice why wouldn’t he stay at ND as QB1 where he’s comfortable w/ the system & personnel vs starting over somewhere else?

Kmet will probably be gone similarly to Will Fuller a few years back. He & the PSU TE were looked at as the top two draft eligible TEs yet both have announced their return. This could be a draft w/ zero TE in first round. That may be enough to push Kmet to jump to the NFL.

Something has to change at OL or you can forget about ND competing against the likes of Wisconsin, much less Clemson. That offense won’t take a step forward until they can avoid being one-dimensional.

Thank God for Clark Lea.

Thank God for Clark Lea.

If Kmet goes - it will suck but, I'm not worried - The Irish is TE University

If Book goes - it will suck but, I'm not worried - The Irish have PJ and a good list of back-ups and incoming QBs.

If Lea goes - it will suck and, I will be worried. Then again, the one item I find about BK is he does go out and find good to great assistants... minus 'Choppers'... and Long has been disappointing compared to how he ran the Memphis offense.

When Heistand left, I thought, "There goes the neighborhood" on the OL but, Quinn has done a good job.

But Lea has to stay.. bottom line Lea will be BK's biggest recruit to keep for next year... there will be at least 5 - 6 openings that will be enticing and Lea should/would be targeted to fill them.
