Ogunbowale Advances in Ann Meyers Drysdale Award
Recognized as one of the top 10 shooting guards

Quote:
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced the 10 candidates for the 2019 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award on Tuesday, with Notre Dame senior guard Arike Ogunbowale among those named. The annual award, now in its second year, recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.

A national committee comprising of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in October, which has now been narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Meyers Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. Fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist at www.hoophallawards.com.

The winner of the 2019 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be revealed in partnership with the WBCA at the Women's Final Four in Tampa, Florida. Last season, Mississippi State's Victoria Vivians was named the inaugural winner of the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Award.

This season, Ogunbowale averages 21.0 points per game which ranks 14th in the country. The senior is also averaging 4.0 assists and 1.8 steals, while also ranking top 20 in the nation in free throw makes (115).

Since the turn of the year, Ogunbowale has displayed dynamic scoring in quarters, tallying double digit points in a period on seven separate occasions.

The Milwaukee native is now just 56 points away from tying the Notre Dame scoring record of 2,357 points set by Skylar Diggins-Smith.

All Five Starters Land on Naismith Trophy Midseason Watch List
Record number from Notre Dame

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced the 30 women's basketball players included on the midseason watch list for the 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year award on Monday. A record five Notre Dame players made the list with Marina Mabrey, Arike Ogunbowale, Jessica Shepard, Brianna Turner and Jackie Young.

Notre Dame looks to claim its first Citizen Naismith Trophy for Women's Player of the Year since Ruth Riley in 2001. One Irish in particular, junior guard Jackie Young, has a little history with the Naismith Trophy – winning the high school version of the award in 2016.

On March 4, the competition will narrow as the midseason team of 30 becomes 10 national semifinalists. The four finalists will be announced on March 22, and the 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy for Women's Player of the Year will be announced on April 6.

All five starters average over 12.5 points per game, accounting for 90 percent of the team's scoring, for an offense that ranks third in the country. The Irish have posted a 22-3 overall record against the nation's No. 1 strength of schedule, earning the No. 1 ranked RPI.

The Irish also rank in the top 10 nationally in assists, blocks, field goal percentage, free throw attempts and makes, total rebounds and scoring margin.

All five are certainly leaving their mark as well. Ogunobwale is on pace to break the all-time scoring record. Mabrey is on pace for most career three-pointers. Turner is challenging for the all-time blocks record. In addition, Shepard has already achieved over 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for her career.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The No. 6 Notre Dame women's basketball team has five games remaining in the regular season and up next for the Fighting Irish is a road clash at Boston College on Wednesday, Feb. 13. The Irish look for ACC win No. 10 when they challenge the Eagles at 7 p.m. ET inside the Conte Forum, streaming live on ACCN Extra.

CHASING SKYLAR / 2,000 POINT CLUB
Senior guard Arike Ogunbowale is closing in on the Notre Dame all-time scoring record. First off, Ogunbowale surpassed the 2,000 career point milestone Dec. 16 vs. Binghamton, becoming the fifth Irish player to do so.

Ogunbowale enters Wednesday's game with 2,301 career points. Up next:
No. 2 Beth Morgan - 2,322 points
No. 1 Skylar Diggins - 2,357 points

LAST TIME VS BOSTON COLLEGE
On Jan. 20, the Irish earned a 92-63 win over Boston College inside Purcell Pavilion. Notre Dame received double-doubles from both Jackie Young and Jessica Shepard, while Arike Ogunbowale dropped a game high 24 points.

FOUR IN THE TOP 50
The Irish currently boast four players in the top 50 nationally in shooting percentage:
17. Shepard - 60.2 percent
20. Turner - 59.1 percent
30. Young - 55.0 percent
50. Mabrey - 52.5 percent

Young continues to be the most efficient guard in Notre Dame's arsenal. Her .550 shooting percentage ranks 4th nationally among just guards.

As a team, the Irish are shooting 51.4 percent, which ranks third in the country, while Oregon takes the top spot at 52.6 percent.

MABREY ON FIRE
Over last five games: Mabrey has converted 19-of-33 from beyond the arc - which ranks 5th in the country in that span. Mabrey has shot 57.6 percent in those five games, which ranks 4th best in that span with a minimum of 15 makes.

Mabrey tied the best stretch of her career (2016-17 season) with three straight games of 20 or more points from Jan. 27-Feb.3. She shot a blazing 16-of-23 from three, connecting on 69.6 percent.

NO. 3 ON FIRE FROM THREE
Mabrey has raised her season three-point shooting percentage from .425 to .469 over the last five games. That number ranks 5th in the country. Mabrey has also raised her three-point field goals made per game from 2.3 to 2.7, which ranks 5th in the ACC.

Mabrey's 247 career treys surpassed her position coach Beth (Morgan) Cunningham for 3rd all-time. Up next is Sheila McMillen with 249. Alicia Ratay holds the top spot with 262.

TURNER BLOCK PARTY
With a season high tying five blocks in three straight games, no other player in Division I has a better block average or total blocks in February than Turner.

Furthermore, Turner has collected 32 blocks over the last eight games, including her season high of five four times in that span.

NAISMITH DEFENSIVE POTY MIDSEASON LIST
No surprise that the two-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year found herself on the Naismith Women's Defensive Player of the Year Award Midseason Watch List.

Turner is averaging 2.7 blocks per game, which leads all players in the ACC and ranks 10th in the nation.

Turner is currently chasing Notre Dame great Ruth Riley for the all-time mark (370 career blocks), sitting with 331 blocks heading into Wednesday's matchup.
