To be fair, the Rotoworld blurb was responding to some article that said Clowney should just take this season off because he would be guaranteed to go #1 regardless if he stays healthy.

IMO, if the team picking first has other needs then somebody will trade up to get Clowney. I think he's that good.

Hate when I eat the last bite and didn’t notice it was the last bite so I couldn’t mentally prepare myself and get any closure.

Totally disagree, the QB for whoever ND plays in the bowl game next year will be #1 pick.

Clowney would be the #1 pick this year if he could come out.

Maybe, depends on team needs

dublinirish 02-28-2013 06:47 AM

if Manziel has another Heisman like season and comes out, he would be in contention for the #1 pick. His public profile was be so high you know some downtrodden franchise at that spot might be tempted..

Old Man Mike 02-28-2013 09:35 AM

Big Lou is obviously one of a kind --- easily the playfully nuttiest great player I can ever remember at Notre Dame.

Is there any wonder why this guy is so well liked?

He's _____ [Insert any under 60 appreciated/approved comment you like]

Irish YJ 03-01-2013 09:19 PM

When his college days are done, I can easily see him on SNL one night.

dublinirish 03-08-2013 11:42 AM

what is Louis Nix doing for his spring break? Heading out to Arizona to work out for the week with Kendall Moore plus others.

This guy gets it.

clashmore_mike 03-14-2013 12:55 PM

Per TV Lou started spring break at 365 and is down to 353 agree a few days in AZ with a different diet and "speed" work.

Buster Bluth 03-14-2013 01:02 PM

WHOA. I thought they liked him at like 330?

clashmore_mike 03-14-2013 01:08 PM

Probably why a 360 lb nose guard is in a boot camp style speed program in AZ for spring break instead of relaxing on South Beach. :)

I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like he extended the holiday food season a bit.

Um, Buster, who does anyone ever tell the truth about? Height, weight, forty time?

Nobody. And it works both ways! You take a guy that big, with that kind of density, and he is going to be up the chart. I personally don't think he ever got down to 340. He is just, as we used to say, a man mountain!

Irishnuke 03-14-2013 01:29 PM

Damn. That weight isn't just a cause for concern regarding football but overall health. Hope he gets it back down and keeps the extra weight off.

NDdomer2 03-14-2013 01:29 PM

I thought the whole "330" thing was them trying to get him to a weight where he could play more downs. If he can weigh 370 and play every snap then they may not care.

Now I doubt that is the case and the answer probably is somewhere in the middle. 345?

STLDomer 03-14-2013 01:37 PM

He looked pretty good in the pictures on 247 of him working out.

Old Man Mike 03-14-2013 03:52 PM

Hah!!! Well, I thought that we'd get this news sooner or later. This is so typical of the really big guys that's it's a "Law of Football". The Big Guy comes in, the Coach says "no way", the Big Guy sheds some weight, and the season begins.

The Big Guy hasn't stopped liking to eat one bit [in fact NDs "always have snacks on you" system is asking for this with a certain type of Huge-alloppagi] and, shall we say, "grows a bit" in season. He's plowing people under and having a good time, so the staff doesn't look too closely. [Kelly, however gave us all the warning we needed by saying in several late presscons, when talking about Lou: "and Louis Nix, at three hundred and whatever he weighs"].

The season ends. The next aspect of conditioning begins. And "Uh Oh ! ".

My brother played strongside offensive guard in the 60s at VT when if you were 250 you were considered real heavy. Coach Claiborne was an oldtime southern style coach who wanted people trim and fast. My brother was assigned a 235 playing weight.

They had a guy on defense named Waddy Harvey, who for the time was a monster at 6'6" and whatever. Claiborne wanted him at about 280, but the big man [who never made the maximum-allowed mile run time in preseason camp --- once cutting right across the field at the fifty yardline to beat the whistle, barely --- the coaches resolutely looking the other way] went right to 300 and stayed there.

One day late in season, Claiborne was with an assistant coach and a player, and looked down the aisleway and shook his head and said: My Lord, Waddy looks big!. He was then let in on the secret that he was looking at my brother who had been playing [and destroying people] at 275. He resolutely looked the other way.

irishfan 03-19-2013 11:12 PM

Nix listed as 6'3" 347.

Jesus.

He's eligible for a 5th year, but likely won't take it since he'll be a 1st round draft pick in 2014.

But if he loses this season for some reason (*knock on wood*), he may choose to utilize that 5th. Good on him for realizing it's a possibility.

I knew that. I was hoping he was insinuating he might stay.

Yeah, he's got something going on with his knee. Saw him on campus today on a scooter with the knee wrapped up. Not sure what the cause is either, though.

Could this be one of his "jokes?" Like arriving to the NBC pre-spring game interview on crutches?

Maybe if it were just crutches again, but I imagine it would be hard to get your hands on a university issued scooter unless you had a legit need.

I believe a lot of the players cruise around campus riding those Razor scooters.

Also, had crutches with him, too.

chubler 04-28-2013 07:34 PM

Looks a lot like those things they have in grocery stores for old people who can't want...

And sorry to say but there's no way its a joke. I personally carried this scooter up the steps into the dorm yesterday afternoon with my roommate- he was riding around carrying crutches across his lap, knee wrapped up in that tan stretchy stuff (ace bandage-type thing) and icing it. Had a lady friend helping him out, tried to say he was fine when we asked if he needed help, then looked at the stairs again and called us back. My guys haven't heard what it is/if it's serious, anyone got the scoop?

Damm, thanks for posting but Damm. Hopefully won't affect him in the fall, or with his strength and conditioning. Eat right Big Lou!

scUM Hater 04-28-2013 07:50 PM

Hopefully he is just saving his energy for the season.

Irish Insanity 04-28-2013 08:13 PM

Hopefully its just C.B.S.

Yeah, credibility problem when you say Golson will be a true sophomore and was one bad play away from being replaced by Tommy "Reece". Apparently Myrtle Beach has been moved to California too. I stopped reading there.

Hahahaha, I noticed that and stopped there also! I tried to post a comment pointing out the brilliant journalism but it wouldn't let me...blast!
