My hope is that he is just venting. Seems the most obvious answer to me. Twitter lets you vent in public, which is always dangerous.

If this was a joke, Big Lou has quite an edge to him. Love the kid, but that is a pretty crazy thing to write in jest the week after Lynch declares his intention to leave for Florida. Its the kind of joke that your friends laugh at with wide eyes and jaws dropped, and that you know might have gone a little too far. TAs dumb as it may be, these kind of stories create real headaches for his coaches.

Anyway, hope he stays. One of my favorites.

If I were a player on the football team, I'd feel the same way. A strong majority of our fans are an embarrassment. I don't know other college football fan bases too well, but I'd assume we aren't alone.

This would be accurate. The difference is the impatience factor among the ND fanbase. It's not an excuse, as there's no excuse for being a d-bag to an 18-22 year old who tries his best to represent Our Lady's University. It's just the nature of the beast when you're dealing with a success-starved fanbase.

I agree, there is a lot of impatience self-justified as demanding excellence, but most storied fanbases are impatient.

The unique part about the ND fanbase, compared to some of the other entitled fanbases, is that our bad behavior contrasts pretty sharply with the ND brand. When an LSU or Alabama fan acts like an idiot, everyone kind of expects it. When ND fans act like idiots, people call them out as hypocrites because ND markets its clean image so aggressively. Its kind of like watching Coach K cuss up a storm on the sideline after talking how special everything associated with the Duke program is.

Thanks, Terry. I don't like to think of myself as an idiot.... but thanks. Anyway, I don't have the power to shut Bang Bang down, though I am trying. Believe me... I am trying. I've talked to the admin, but he's set on keeping it up. He really means well, but there is a fundamental problem with Bang Bang that the group can't seem to grasp. You can't have players on an ND board. Players know to avoid fan boards such as this if they don't want to see the worst side of their fan base. So a board on Facebook, where they are invited to join CAN ONLY DO BAD. If you wanna have a board on Facebook- fine, LEAVE THE PLAYERS OUT OF IT. Make it secret so they won't be tempted to search it. I honestly believe Lou saw the stuff about the position battle and thought about Lynch's situation and thought to himself why is he so far from home when he could be in Florida having fun and not have to deal with ND fans hounding him........ Bang Bang needs to go. Allegedly, and this is the story from long ago before Nix was an admin, but the story goes something like this.. Tee was an admin, then he made Peter Zabroski an admin. After all the incidents with recruits, someone "high up" in the ND administration told Nix to be an admin so he could monitor this to not hurt recruiting. This was the story... Exposing Nix to the idiocy was probably a mistake. I don't care who does it, someone call Swarbrick, have him look up the directory for an old baseball player named Peter Zabroski, give him a call and get that off of Facebook.

I was in that group way at the beginning - there were only about 80 people in it, and nobody posted much except when someone committed and it was pretty vanilla. Then, around the end of the season, it exploded and as soon as it hit a critical mass of about 150 people it just got out of control. That former baseball player is one of the head idiots on that thing. I left the group before it got REALLY bad because every time I went on fb I had 45 notifications for posts in the group. It became like spam, only worse.

Swarbrick reaching out to the former baseball player would be a good idea, actually. Normally I would think that having someone of Jack's stature getting his hands dirty dealing with a rogue social networking group would be patently absurd, but this thing seems to be doing significant damage - at least perceptually.

Then just a nice conversation about Notre Dame, how it was when he played baseball, the state of the football program.. then address what he wants to see be done with the group. I don't know, I think its worth a shot. Its obvious the group can't continue on this path... Ban players, delete it... something

"Still at ND....blah" is pretty insulting to me. Complain about the negativity, losing a teammate, missing your family. But my interpretation of that tweet is disrespectful to the University and Our Lady. I don't think I'm overreacting.
