Northern Kentucky is a WEIRD place. It's not Cincinnati and it's not rural KY. It has a major identity crisis because it sits in between those two distinct areas. For college athletics, it tends to be favorable to UK rather than UC or Xavier. And the culture around the Catholic high schools isn't "I want to go to Notre Dame!" like it is at many of the midwest Catholic schools in Cincy, St. Louis, Chicago, etc. The region is pretty ambivalent towards ND, except for the fact that ND couldn't cut it in the SEC. So basically, don't expect a Northern Kentucky recruit to have a strong desire to go to ND like kids from Moeller or St. Xavier in Cincy. Mayer may be very pro-ND, but it's not as likely simply because he lives on the Confederate side of the Ohio River. That said, he plays for a very good football team in NKY. |
If he wasn’t playing football in Kentucky, he’d already be a household name nationally and on the radar as “future 5-Star” due to crazy upside at both TE and DE. He can be an Eifert if he keeps the weight off intentionally, but a lot of people locally think his highest upside at the next level will be DE if he keeps hitting the weight room and stays on the bulk-up diet.
Rack Em basically touched ‘em all on the situation in NKY. He’s not necessarily going to be favorable to ND just because he’s a catholic kid in Greater Cincinnati. I’ve got a couple of buddies on the coaching staff at CovCath, so I’ll try to get the scoops when opportunity arises over the next 2.5 years (lol). |
