offering a scholarship to a long snapper is never worth it.

zelezo vlk 04-17-2019 02:59 PM

Taking one a year early to make sure he gets a redshirt? Was anybody expecting this?

Cool!

Now I look forward to not thinking about the long snapping position again until 2024.

Irish YJ 04-24-2019 08:03 PM

ND killing it with another top 5 guy at his position!

It's rare we don't have a scholarship available.... so getting a #1 guy is fine with me.

Welcome aboard!!

Luckylucci 04-24-2019 08:05 PM

Nice. Go Irish!

BeauBenken 04-24-2019 08:29 PM

He's the best in the nation and Kohl's says he's one of the best they've ever seen. I know they always praise their guys highly, but he's also always came out on top in their national challenges no matter the age range. Kid is good and will bring value.

Whiskeyjack 04-24-2019 08:38 PM

Our specialists always look like middle schoolers. Maybe I'm just getting old...

rtrn2glory 04-24-2019 08:49 PM

You never know how important they are until we don't have a good one. Hopefully he has the quietest career.
A no news is good news position

Henges24 04-24-2019 09:10 PM

Nice highlight tape. Puts great spin on the ball, tight spiral, quick release and only puts it where his holder can catch it. 5 star tape, IMO.

Welcome aboard!

Sherm Sticky 04-24-2019 09:20 PM

Welcome to Notre Dame Alex!

Until you have a bad snap on a game winning kick.

You are. :wordyo:

Agree with everyone above. This is the recruit you never want to hear about until he enters the draft.

Do long snappers get drafted?

Funny thing is this kid's nearly the same size as Tevon Coney. Can he play MIKE too?

Fair enough. I'm not certain about that so I'll say I don't want to hear anything besides he's signed a pro contract after 4+ years with ND

just 7 in the past 15 years

jimmy Landes from Baylor in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL draft, they broke with conventional wisdom. Landes became just the seventh long snapper drafted in the last 15 years.
Here’s the list:

Joe Maese, 6th round by the Ravens in 2001
Ryan Pontbriand, 5th round by the Browns in 2003
Zak DeOssie, 4th round by the Giants in 2007
Tyler Schmitt, 6th round by the Seahawks in 2008
Jake Ingram, 6th round by the Patriots in 2009
Joe Cardona, 5th round by the Patriots in 2015

Hopefully he goes four years without hearing his name called. No zoom in cameras and we will be gravy. Love the fact that he is so heavily bragged about by the services and camps he has attended. Now if we could get the top players at some of the other positions...

Irish YJ 04-25-2019 01:02 PM

don't they tend to have pretty long careers in the NFL though, with a decent salary given their very limited snap counts?

The average pro experience for a snapper in 2017 was nearly six seasons, about twice the overall average career length. The average annual salary was a shade under $800,000, according to Spotrac, with the highest snapper pay at $1.4 million.
Not a bad job if you can get it.

Domina Nostra 04-25-2019 02:06 PM

Congrats to the kid. May we never hear his name again!

Good lord yes it is.
Maybe on the field for 10 plays per game lol...
Practice a couple hours a day.... holy Christmas.

tom prendergast 04-25-2019 05:54 PM

I wonder if they'd consider asking Peitsch to greyshirt. Shannon has 2 more years of eligibility and you really don't need two long snappers. I doubt if asking this kid to delay enrolling would scare him off.

From what's been said from the experts is that this has always been the trend for ND taking a longsnapper. Alex will redshirt one year behind Shannon's last year for a year of mentoring. Then the job is his for the next four years and on his way out he will mentor his little grasshopper.

Nah this fits their system. Shannon is a RS JR and will play his final season while Alex takes his redshirt, which is what BK and the staff try to do for the snappers.

Just got mentioned in Under Armour game as going to ND, wearing #46 in white. Snapped for FG but there no pass rush on kicks apparently.
