Orgeron isn't getting the job unless everyone on their list turns it down. If he was a realistic candidate, why contact the others?

Yeah, I see that Fisher and Fedora meet the minority requirements. In a perfect world maybe but college football isn't a prefect world.

              • Fun fact about the mighty SEC this year:
Every team in the league not coached by Nick Saban combined to go a sorry 0-6 against the current AP top 15, a complete washout. There are but two victories against the current top 25 (Kentucky over Louisville; Tennessee over Virginia Tech).
                And...
if Alabama beats Florida Saturday then every team in the league not coached by Nick Saban will have at least four losses. Already we have this: every team in the league not coached by Nick Saban combined to go just 5-9 against other Power 5 conference opponents (and BYU). That included last weekend’s trips behind the woodshed by Florida (31-13 loss to Florida State) and South Carolina (56-7 loss to Clemson).
The end of rampant oversigning has slowly but surely brought the SEC back to the pack. They no longer have the talent or depth edge they used to enjoy. Unless you're Alabama.

Great find and post. The SEC outside of Alabama is a mediocre league now.

Big 10 is the best league this year and the ACC might be the second best.

Odds are that the SEC East will be 1-13 vs the West this year, totaling 3-25 over two years.
What do I know? The East won all four - Fla, Georgia, Vandy and Missouri won. Is the East better than we thought? Fla and Ga then lost their ACC rivalry games. Or is the West (except Alabama) not as strong as we thought?

The SEC East finished 4-10 against the West.

SEC finished 6-8 vs the other P5 teams in non-conference play (3-6 vs ACC).

Even an SEC guy like me won't argue this. Lots of coaching changes, turmoil, and HC's that aren't getting the job done. Bama is Bama and UF is on the rise with McElwain, but everyone else is pretty mediocre to bad right now. I expect to see several HC changes in the next 14 months.

                            • SEC records and scheduling 2016 and 2014 comparison

In 2014, the SEC was 5-6 against P5 teams (1-4 against the ACC).
In 2016, the SEC was 6-8 against P5 teams (3-6 against the ACC).

In 2014, the SEC was 40-1 against G5 teams (only loss vs MAC team, Temple).
In 2016, the SEC played four less games against G5 teams and was 34-3 (losses to S. Ala, Memphis, Middle Tenn St).
-- the four less games against G5 teams than in '14, four more games against P5 teams (all ACC teams).
-- three wins were against Independent UMass (Florida, Ole Miss, S. Carolina)

In 2014, seven SEC teams finished in the top twenty-five in the final Playoff rankings.
In 2016 at this point, four SEC teams are in the top twenty-five in Playoff rankings. (Only Alabama in the top 12)

Under the "Alabama and everyone else" (not really) topic, the SEC is 1-3 in bowl games so far with Arkansas spanking Virginia Tech tonight. Mississippi State beat Miami (O)17-16 with a blocked FG in the final seconds. Looking forward to the next three games, which should be good.

Mississippi State beat Miami (O)17-16 with a blocked FG in the final seconds. Looking forward to the next three games, which should be good.

I would say cautiously optimistic describes where I am at. As far as the SEC this year? The wannabee's are still riding the coat tails of the Tide as some things never change.

You wonder if Saban has tied up all his assistants the same way - past NSD and the Playoffs. If someone wanted to leave before the end of Feb like Kiffin or Cristobal, it would require a negotiated buyout and Saban would have veto power. An assistant could make an ass of themselves to be released or his agent - or the new team - could start "rumors", if the situation was not tolerable or the assistant just wanted to move on, start recruiting for the new team. Either way could act to some degree to counteract S's leverage. Then, it's a consideration for assistant coaches to be hired into that type of a program v. ND's where assistant coaches can leave earlier when the HC is staying. If the recruit calls and wants to know if you are staying, you have to be non-committal or have the HC call back.

From the player's viewpoint, as an example an OLmen recruited by Cristobal's or one of Kiffin's top ranked recruits, there is good reason not to sign on NSD and wait to see what happens. Maybe you keep an OV in your pocket or pay for an UV to another school after NSD like Oregon in this case.

Maybe I should include the word inferiority complex as in that is what the loud talking bully really is. Listening to Finebaum today which is always a mistake and a guy calls in to dispute the '66 '77 national championship of Notre Dame which at that time was a vote (of course). Anyway my thought was wow-these people are probably going to win another, they are the winningest program in college football today, (even if you don't like how they do it) what is the deal with dragging up a fictitious complain from 50 plus years ago-then it hit me-when you have this inferiority complex for whatever reason you will never be satisfied with whatever amount of success you attain. And just as a side note I'm old enough to know everything about those two seasons and Notre Dame was by far the loaded, better, team in those days. Alabama wouldn't have been able to hang with Mich State either. Its the exact reversal of today where all the pro prospects were on Notre Dame and Mich State while Alabama was a small well coached team that played with heart. Much like Notre Dame in 2012 when they played the pros and got their $##@$ handed to them if Alabama would have played Notre Dame back then they would have gotten the same treatment. Roll bucket of nuts and bolts.
Project ahead when you think of what university you want to bring your family to as an alum. If it isnt Notre Dame then you should go to another school-from a subway alumni
