China and SE Asia is the new ballpark. I think we need a President who pushes our allies to increase their defense spending and create a more formidable alliance to oppose the rising threat from China. Biden laughed at China as a candidate, but I doubt he is now. Bipartisanship on military spending is always smooth and amazing. Don't hold your breath for cuts.
    FIFY

We had a president who pushed our allies to increase defense spending - he was lambasted in the media for not playing nice and ignored for being effective at getting NATO to up their spending.

And it's OK, China is laughing at Biden now so they are kind of even.

    • Biden's on record wanting out of Afganistan in Obama's 1st term. He got overruled. Also, economically we'll need to coordinate with Europe/ our SE asian friends in this. They happen to respect the current guy more than the former guy...

They didn’t like Trump because Trumpet called a spade a spade. He called for allies to step up and carry they’re own weight in these matters.

They disliked Trump because they saw him as an illiberal twit who both wanted to withdraw from the world but also dictate what would happen. Working within global frameworks is a force multiplier for us. I studied abroad in Australia and my conservative aussie friend frequently asked how we could vote in the former guy.

I think most serious people recognize CNN is propaganda anyways. The cycle of unsubstantiated claims targeting Republicans getting blown up as news stories to hammer Republicans and then quietly getting retracted months after the damage is done is rather annoying. Georgia call was an interesting one and we still don’t have a source for the Atlantic hit piece on suckers and losers. It’s all bullshit to control the narrative.

He wanted to withdraw because he saw we were not getting the assistance and backing from others. He felt it was unfair for the US to constantly do all the heavy lifting and spending the most. Unlike predecessors, he was willing to take a different approach to get a response.

I get your disdain for Trump, but there were areas like this where it takes a different approach. Otherwise it’s the same day after day with no improvement.

                • As it pertains to the Stans... IIRC, when Trump wanted to get out, libs flipped their shit and all of sudden "generals" came out to criticize.

This is a non-partisan issue that partisans will make an issue. It's disgusting.

If you think the US should be in the shit of every situation, you might have a "control" issue.

Make the other "leading" countries do their part and set examples. Oh wait, the previous admin asked that.

First of all, conservatives or liberals here, are not the same as there, or other places. There's a huge difference in most of the ranges.

In terms of Australia, where I have a few friends.... One could say they are stoolies to the Chinese. The gov, per opinion of some, has been infiltrated. Won't go that far, but if you know, or live in Australia, you know it's a real debate. And you also know the dependencies.

Trump was a twit, but the current is a much weaker twit who lets your closest neighbor, and closest threat prosper. You sound like a lib that spent time in the land down under, but only rep a small portion of the country.

Joe Biden is the dude who thinks it's a cool idea to pull out of Afghanistan on the 20th anniversary of 9/11... and the bitchboy who didn't want to kill Osama.

Whether you are a hawk, or a dove, dude has about as much of an instinct for foreign policy as an 8 year old. It's easy to see why he plagiarized in law school lol.

                                      But the tweets aren’t mean.

I bought Doge like an hour ago and watching it still move lower. Odds of Joe Manchin approving are low, so use it to buy. Republicans are moving closer to signing off on a corporate tax hike though as the political realignment continues and the anti- corporate vibe grows in the GOP.

                                      • Capital gains need to be taxed at a similar rate to wages. The difference has led to market distortions. To make this work you need to index the assets to inflation. My hope is this/infrastructure etc. Are big opening salvos so that biden can get what he wants after compromises are made.

Also, Goldman has found that when taxes on assets go up you generally get a short term sell off but in the medium/long term the market stabilizes“History shows stock prices fall, equity allocations decline, and momentum underperforms ahead of increases in the capital gains tax rate,” Goldman strategists wrote. “However, any potential equity selling will be short-lived and reversed in subsequent quarters.”

Yeah, sucks because this really shot a lot of the crypto momentum in the foot.

XRP and Doge were up big time and this news caused them to sink like a rock. I'm still up considerably on both, but it still really ruffles my jammies.

The other is one of the worst designed cryptos in existence and currently embroiled in a lawsuit with the SEC. Blaming Joe Biden for you choosing to gamble in two of the most volatile cryptos out there is next level projection.

Like, the best possible conditions imaginable to kick off large capital endeavors 2) It's his style historically to put something out there that everyone can score wins against and still survive. The final bill/law won't look anything like what's out there now, and that's probably intentional.

If the Republicans run against a lot of the popular programs or run on lowering the corporate tax rate/defunding the IRS... that won't go well. It's why we hear so much about woke capital and green eggs and ham.

Most of the initiatives Biden put forward should be bipartisan because they poll at 60%+ support. But the GOP is incredibly invested in painting him as "radical" and "socialist" and other scare words so they don't dare acknowledge that.

                                                                                                  This is what America sees:

But Tim Scott went up there in his "response" and talked about a bunch of things that either 1) weren't in the speech or 2) where Scott had to straight up lie. No different then when earlier this week GOP leaders made up the "BiDeN iS cOmInG fOr YoUr HaMbUrGeRs" story and the lie about the government buying copies of Kamala's book for illegal immigrants. Just a wild strategy. It seems like putting out a platform that says "this is where we can work with Biden" with specific policy initiatives so that HE has to be the one to say no would be a lot smarter than being obstructionist on popular policies while simultaneously trying to convince people that the other side is the one that doesn't want to work together.

I’m more curious how many people even turned it on. I tried watching Braves/Cubs, tried watching basketball, then I just decided to catch up on house stuff. I’m sure it was all peaches and rainbows in the view of the left and just the opposite from the right.
